"Low Fuel" indicator - whats yours?
01/03/10 3:47 PM

First time since putting on the turbo, Feb 09, that I got the "Low Fuel" indicator. Went to the gas station and filled up with 4.8 and a hair gallons. Prior to the gas tank mods I'd get about .5 gallon plus reserve notice.

Not much 'reserve' notice now.

Whats amount do you all have in reserve when you get the "Low Fuel" indicator at first on?

You must have read my mind. I was thinking the same thing today.
1. What does the mileage read once it triggers the low fuel light or gas pump icon?
2. What was total range before the tank ran out of gas? [like anyone would admit to it]

I'd average about 100 miles before low fuel signal, 50/50 city and highway hot-rodding under boost.

The range is completely off so I dont use it. It is always way optimistic to reality, since turbo.

Ran mine to the low fuel indicator.Rode for another 5 miles.Stopped-filled up.It took a tad more than 5 gallons.Book says-.8 gals-low fuel indicator comes on.Mine was pretty darn close.With my 16/42 gearing-I average around 34 MPG.5 X 34= 170.Taller gearing will give ya more.

1.1 gal is the listed reserve I think. I can get over 200 miles running thru the reserve.

I can't seem to get over 30 mpg, with just normal driving, 50/50 highway and street. Mods are just the basics full pipe, pclll, bmc filter, flies removed, speedohealer, and -1 on the front sprocket. The bike hasn't been tuned but runs good, maybe not as good as I think if I'm truely lossing ~6 mpg.

Maybe that -1 down on the front sprocket has something to do with poor mpg, and/or a fat maping.
Mine did not get good mpg until I had over 1K miles on the bike.

I would suspect a fat map. I'm -1 on the front sprocket, and my mileage (and performance) increased from about 38 mpg to about 45 mpg with a leaner map. -bg

It seems to me that the only way to know how far you can go, after the warning comes on, is to run till you are out of gas. I've only done that in my truck (which had 2 tanks) where I could switch over. But it really messes up your fuel injectors to run to the bottom of the tank.
When I flew airplanes in 3rd world countries, we always filtered the gas through a chamois. That gives you the best chance of getting clean fuel.
The worst thing you can do is go into a gas station when you see the big truck dumping gas into the underground tanks. You're sure to get crap in the fuel even several minutes after they are done.
I like to put about 2/3 tank full and refill before the warning. I hate walking.
