RE: New to 14 what's the best first mods for 09

I am back after a very long hiatus.
Sold my 07....bought and R1...and now have an '09 14 again.
My PC and slips should be here this week and the flies are going bye bye.
I will be able to say whether this mod on an '09 is worthwhile (I know it is) but I have read so many knucklehead posts about "flies opening sooner" on an '09 that its not worth it.
I can tell everyone that the '09 stock still does not hit nearly as hard from bottom as a modded '07 so there is something left under the hood.

Mine is under warranty. So i don't want to void that, thought about a tre so if somthing did happen I could just unplug it and take it to the dealer

You could also unplug a PC and how would they know?
Riding a modded bike is worth the risk because the alternative is to ride a stock bike for WAYYYYYY too long. No fun.

While I definitely appreciate mods I've made to the bike, I would hardly call a stock ZX14 "no fun"...

First thing we did was the 16-43 gearing followed shortly thereafter by a Muzzy Pipe and PC5. This was within the first month of ownership. These things made a world of difference.

I just took my polution control off and added block off plates.I could of removed the switching valve and removed all the hoses.Plugged the hole on the right side of the air box/frame.And blocked the two plates which would of cost nothing. But I allready bought the plates. It wasn't an easy job but I did it and happy I did. After I did this I took her for a ride.No matter what I did I couldn't get her to pop.Mission accomplished. Before I put the bodywork back on I'm going to re-install my speedohealer.Since I put my 43 tooth Vortex sprocket back on it's about 7 miles per hour off. With my Alienhead gears dynotune and block off plates I'm very happy with my mods.

If your going to drag race it full pipe is worth 11-13 hp.(Slip-Ons 3 to 4 hp). Lower it. Extend the swing arm. List is long. Does it have a power commander ?
First mod learn how to ride it lol

OK, all of my upgrades are complete:
D&D black satin slip ons
PC with Ivans map & tre
Of course flies removed.
Without a doubt, for anyone on the fence about the upgrade on an '08-'09, do it!
Better throttle response and definitely picks up steam in the 3-7k rpm range. The mods are not as dramatic as an '06-'07 but noticeable and definitely worth the end result.
Again, I owned an '07 that I modded, and now have an '09 that received the treatment. I rode the '09 for 3k miles before the mods so my ass-dyno was well calibrated to the bike.
Have no fear....mod your shit! You will not be disappointed in the result.
