Scottoiler install
11/28/21 2:41 AM

A Sunday Evnin Gday from Down Under

I did a search already & limited info on the install of a Vaccum Scottoiler on the forum.
I noticed one photo of the oil tank under the pillion seat on not much off a layed down flat angle
I’d prefer a more upright position
But I’ll figure that one out
I’m heading away at the end of this week on a 3 dayer & wouldn’t mind getting mine fitted up.
My main question is, can anyone please point out an easily accessible vaccum line on the motor to plug her into
Many thanks in advance

I don't think there is an easily accessible one, at least on the UK models but our's don't have some of the emmissions add-ons that some markets do. The vacuum take-offs for TB balancing are underneath the TB's and blanked off with screws. I installed some adaptors and some short lengths of rubber vacuum hose with plugs to make TB balancing easier. You may well have to do the same unless someone knows of an easier option.

I still haven’t gotten around to installing my Scottoiler but have found the recommended vacuum hose install point on the throttle body test point.
I’m assuming this won’t affect fuelling as it’s suggested by Scottoiler themselves It seems.
I’ll add a photo when I get around to this

Any thoughts ??
Thanks guys.

Should be fine. No effect at all. It's pulling something open every stroke on that one cylinder. That's thousands of drops and what a mess. Unless there is a shutoff... I'm sure.

Broken hose/hose off unit/cut hose... that's first in before fuel and that will more or less heat up that cylinder, piston, etc. Might no be that bad if failed, but figures you'd sense the power is a little off some. Other than that, you're good to go.

Thanx Hub, I’ve always got on well with the Scottoiler system.
The amount of oil used can be finely adjusted or straight after a chain clean, turned right UP, to temporarily coat things up quickly.
I also find the chain much easier to clean full stop, as it’s a thinner oil used. No thick build up anywhere
Away for a weeks riding now with the special lady on board, but on the OTHER bike this time.
Will sort things once I’m back.
Cheers

Do O-ring & X-ring chains even need lubing? I need to clean the chain and the sprockets periodically.

I want BMW's new "never need lubed" chain.

'I want BMW's new "never need lubed" chain.'
They were in need of replacement within 12K miles not lubing them. The labeling is deceptive. They re upped their claims saying it needs to be lubed every (I don't know just now)so many miles.
"Do O-ring & X-ring chains even need lubing?"...short answer...YES.Cleaning and lubing.

Just a thought... I use wheel bearing grease. Every 300 miles, I take a paper towel and wipe the chain rung about 3 wheel turns or so. Never felt grit on the chain.

Lube chain every 300-400 miles at the max. I'm every 300 miles religiously. There is so much lube in the pin. That load is going to push it out eventually. The angle of the smaller sprocket will accelerate the wear on the one side of the pin as it goes around that arc.

Lube up no matter the advertising. Spray is more like straight down on the chain. Grease is a squeeze into the rollers. Can't spray that into each side of the roller? Cleaning the chain is going to wash out what lube was there. Better if you just keep lubing and not clean off. JMO

I was always told - If it sounds TOO good to be true, it probably IS.
ie. The never lube Beemer chain ?

I use chain saw Bar Oil in my Scottoilers, to reduce fling off.

While on the subject, I’m in the habit of changing the front sprocket every 10,000klm as it’s the first part of the system to wear, which then transfers its wear to the chain etc
Cheapest part too. Makes the whole lot last longer IMHO.
We all have our own ideas of course

You're kidding, right? O rings seal in the lube for the pins and rollers but external lube is needed for the chain/sproccket contact and also corrosion protection.

Busy day in the garage.
After fitting up the Motion Pro quick action throttle it was onto the Scottoiler for the chain.
I’m using the vacuum version
Vacuum taken from throttle body test point. Easy to do. Vacuum opens oiler when engine is running.
Oil bottle added on about a 45 deg angle onto my Ventura L brackets that then hold a number of rear soft bag ?? / luggage options.
Oil dripper on outside of rear sprocket.
Adjustable flow. Works great, minimal oil needed, no more thick chain gunk build up.
HAPPY not to need worry about chain lubing when away on a trip now.

A good neat instal. Only mod I would make would be a dual nozzle feed to lube both sides of the chain.

I think I'd have it really close to that chain. That seems like quite a gap in there if ya want to reduce fling.IMO.

Grn14, the oil delivery tube is exactly where the instructions suggest & I have put it on several other bikes now. It works perfectly, the tube is very lightly touching the sprocket & the tiniest bit of oil is very gradually delivered onto the sprocket, on purpose, to then find its way through centrifugal force onto the chain. We’re talking the tiniest about. It’s not dripping, a smear only
Pegscraper, the oil finds its way over the whole chain evenly & it’s never uncoated with oil on the opposite side from the delivery tube. Yep, there’s an option for twin delivery tubes but through my experience over years it’s completely unnecessary. I do love this chain lubricating method. Fill up the bottle, adjust tiny flow amount, re fill a thousand or so kilometres later. To clean the chain is literally a 2 minutes wipe with a rag.
