To me, seems to make perfect sense to leave it on max or close to that. You won't feel any difference in the steering at any speed no matter what setting you have it on. That's what is great about this damper. It doesn't do anything until you need it to. ...and even then, if it does its job, you won't know it! LOL as I'm sure I've mentioned before, I DO notice the steering do a quick zing now and again when the Hyper-Pro is removed from the bike. Not a thing with it on, ever.

Hi Rook,

I have just ordered one of these.
The updated titanium version with etched markings and black mounts.
Your recommendation weighed in considerably on this decision plus the new non stickered look.
Won't be here for 4-5 weeks. That's Australia!

Now are you saying this damper has the smarts to stay soft in everyday riding, even when its turned way up, and only clicks in when it is required when the speed becomes more spirited?
Hence your comments "you never know when it's doing its job".
If it does this, it must be the best damper ever as my understanding is all dampers need to be adjusted to your riding situation.
But if this is the case, why does the damper have lower setting, or any settings at all for that matter.
Why not just leave it at near max like you do and forget about unrequired options?

I have looked everywhere for more information on the Hyperpro damper and have not been able to find too much.

Is it really that good???

Now are you saying this damper has the smarts to stay soft in everyday riding, even when its turned way up, and only clicks in when it is required when the speed becomes more spirited?

That's the way it was explained to me by the customer service guy at Annitorri who is a US distributer of the Hyper-Pro. The damping force doesn't come on until a violent steering input occurs. You can't move the damper that abruptly by hand. The piston slides a little stiffer at higher settings but not nearly enough that you will feel it when installed on the bike. The way the damper activates is by some kind of mechanical means. Something to do with the oil and the gas inside.

If it does this, it must be the best damper ever as my understanding is all dampers need to be adjusted to your riding situation.

That's the #2 reason I got it. First was that it was cool looking because I didn't really think a damper was likely to be somethin that I needed on the 14. The Hyper-Pro was recommended by MassZX-14 who is a very knowledgeable track rider. He used t post a lot on this site. He's more into track bikes now.

Why not just leave it at near max like you do and forget about unrequired options?

May be that the Hyperpro CSC which with linear damping requires the adjustability because you CAN feel the damping effect with low speed inputs if the damping is set high. "Linear" means the damping effect increases as you dial it up like other dampers. The CSC is a good damper for stunters because they need that powerful damping with subtle steering inputs for doing the lowspeed stuff they do like stoppies. If they just want to ride home fro the parking lot, they don't want all that low speed damping anymore so they dial it back.

The Hyperpro RSC is more for road racing damping. It shares the same design for its casing with the CSC, thus the same adjuster nob. Personally, I don;t think the nob is needed but it I'm glad it os there cuz it looks cool! The RSC reacts to the kind of steering inputs no human could create by hand (tank slappers) but very little to normal steering inputs. Looks like the RSC is also capable of a little stronger damping force. Check out the graphs on the Hyperpro site.

Is it really that good???

I guess so! I haven't had a tank slapper with it on the bike but like I mentioned, I sure do notice an ocassional whip in the steering when it is off. That's the only way I know the thing is NOT there. Otherwise, totally the same.

As always, thanks Rook.
I'm looking forward to receiving and installing my new Hyperpro damper.
I knew it had to be good to get through your researching of the best option but didn't think it would be that good.
I'll post some pics when it's all on...
