Headlight upgrade.
07/20/25 4:57 AM

So i got these Lucas headlight bulbs and they are absolutely amazing. I bought a kit from schnitz racing and it was barely brighter than factory bulbs. I could barely see 10 feet ahead. I do a lot if night riding and those bulbs made dor an unpleasant ride.

So i went to a local car audio shop and he had these
Lucas L5 and I absolutely love these bulbs.

I rode around for about two and half hours tonight and I was always able to see so clearly.bi couldnt beleive how bright they are and how effortless it is to see. They are on the expensive side but I will pay for them everytime because they look so good.

I adjusted the headlights higher on my Gen1 and I had people flashing me even with dims on. By the time I would have tried something to increase the illumination, I had stopped riding at night unless it was a touring situation which was rare. I'm glad you found something that works better for you Yel. My headlight ambition is to hand fabricate something that weighs much less than stock headlight assembly and still is high-viz in the daytime.

I dont want to tell you how to live your life rook, but I think you should give these a chance. Yes the are a little pricey but they work great. They are bulbs made for projection lenses so no adjustment was necessary. They give off a lot if light and as you can see they are a nice white color. I ride at night a lot. Something about cruising around in the calm of the night does it for me. I have done a couple tanks of gas with these and so far no one has flashed me. I can stand in front the bike at various distances with the low beams on and the light doesnt bother my eyes. They also have different level bulbs from this company. The L5s are the top and brightest. They have a few other levels that are lower in cost and not as bright but I wouod imagine still good. I can let you know tonight. I put the mid level ones in my truck. So I will see how they look tonight.

Thanks Yel. I don't do night riding but you never know when it might be necessary. I remember my Gen1 low beams weren't good at all, especially for turning a corner.

I flipped my high beam and low beam lights. So my "high beams" are always on and the low beams are turned on by the switch. I got some Sealight S2S model LEDs and they are pretty bright. about the same brightness as my previous HID setup. The S2S are very low profile and pretty cheap. About $30 for a pair. I tried some Phillips bulbs and they were a little disappointing and quite yellow although they were supposed to be pure white.

One thing I noticed about using the high beams all the time is that they burn out kind of fast. At least the OEM bulbs do.

No problem Rook.
The lights are bright enough that the are noticeable during the day which I feel helps to make the bike more noticeable which I feel anything helps to get people's attention. I also left the high beams on for 20ish minutes and there was minimal heat on the lenses so I think that should help the longevity of them.
