Center stand
05/28/17 8:52 AM

Kawi center stand installation, my findings:
The CS itself is relatively light. I think (not verified by scale) that the hand grip for lifting is the heaviest piece of the hardware. Everything fit perfectly. All hardware from Mama Kaw was labelled and assembly straight forward. The lower (rear) fairing piece is eliminated by this installation. :-( Getting the spring installed was the most difficult part of the job for me. I offer a hint on that: Clip the spring in position, install left side mount/pivot bolt then make a sacrificial to whatever mechanical deities you favor and install the right bolt.

Finished installation looks good. Bike is easily lifted onto center stand. Well tucked in. Not sure how much lean angle will be restricted.

Lift grip (very nicely made)
Center stand
Rear tire clearance (about 2")(disregard the original tires, mfg 43rd week of 2010!)
New hoops (I sure hope the RS III's live up to Dunlop's claims. :-)

Well, I have the images, now to figure out how to [post]. There will be a brief intermission while I read the instructions....

Apologies: I can get the images "uploaded" and they show up as thumbnails but do not make it to the posted thread.

I used the Brocks stand stop. Perfect fit and holds stand about 1/4 inch away from pipe.

Poor quality on the pics, sorry...

Hey C14! I'm in the mountains this week (Suches area). Will get a pic as soon as I get home. Really simple little devise. Perfectly fitted and completely functional.

BTW: ZX14 is a handfull in the curves. Gotta learn to ride all over again. :-)

Don't have a clue of how these pics will be oriented once posted but here goes. When I took them, gravity dictated "up". :-)

Since I bought the ABBA stand my centre stand will be going up for sale. I have no idea what to ask for it, but it ships from Canada.....only thing you will need is the exhaust gaskets.

Zeebeast. The Kawasaki kit comes with exhaust gaskets for the mufflers as they need to be removed. The grab handle and plastic piece for the lock under seat are still on the bike. I have just been lazy about removing them.

Does the foot-press get in the way of
the back of your boot when adjusting
your foot on the peg? Also does that
foot-press grab the back side of your
heel (Achillies's tendon) ever, like
if you lose balance a bit and put your foot
down to keep bike up right?
Clearance issues with any of the stand?
ZX14R
I have a gold wing with center stand, the
stand is incredibly useful, one thing
I have to be very careful of though is getting
my leg caught under the foot-press,
when doing parking lot maneuvers, ground clearance
doesn't seem to be an issue though.
--
Installation is essentially just a matter
of removing rear shock assembly cover,
maybe exhaust,
two mounting bolts + washers, and fitting the spring?

If you're still posting here Zee, or someone, could you elaborate
on this statement, a 'handful' in the corners?
What bike did you off of when getting your ZX14, I have gen 2 ZX14R,
when I first got this bike it had old tires, and scared me in
corners, where my Gold Wing was like a rail, this bike spooked me,
feeling quite squirely. I put a new tire on the front and adjusted
the suspension as best I could, that really changed the bike,
especially the new tire.
While I love the nimbleness, how it 'falls' into corners/sweeps,
but I actually still feel like I can go quite a bit faster in the same ones
on the Gold Wing. :shrugs:, I've ridden about 1500 miles on the
zx14r now, still building confidence.

I've never used a center stand but if that foot press is anything like footpegs on rearsets, those can push against the back of the calf when you take off from a stop. Stock footpegs have a pivot so it's a lot softer if that happens.

I presume Zee had ridden smaller sport bikes before the 14. The only sport bikes I've ridden are the 14 and the Hayabusa but I can just imagine an inch less WB and 50 to 70 lbs lighter plus narrower body and (in the case of 600s) narrower tires has to make some difference at least in feel. But as you point out, whatever bike you get used to is probably going to be the one you have the most control with. I dropped a lot of weight off my Gen1 ZX-14. If there was any difference in corner speed, it would need to be measured with a stopwatch. I couldn't tell by how the bikes felt when I was riding. I can imagine learning to corner faster than a larger bike but probably the only time you're going to be able to notice the advantage is in a road race. I learned a long time ago not to test that on the street. It's pushing the skills to the crash zone but yeah, a smaller bike with a guy who has equal skills is probably going to keep ahead of you and be somewhat less likely to crash.
