Hey all, I'm curious if anyone with a 2012 has put any luggage (saddlebags/tailbag) on a 2012 yet. I'm planning on 2-3 trips this summer (3-4 day weekends). Just curious what fits and what your impressions are of what you got.
Thanks!

Hi Blue,
This works for me on my blue one!
Took some pics today just to show the soft luggage arrangement that I have on the new ZX 14R. All these bags came off the old gen1 ZX 14. They fit the 2012 as well as and better than (in the case of the saddlebags) they did the 2007!
Rally Pack magnetic tank bag sees daily duty. First Gear expandable soft saddle bags set high and wide clearing the pipes nearly perfectly. Cortech tail bag (built in bungees) attaches to underseat subframe and either to the saddlebags or the fender behind the reflectors nice and securely. The reflecters mounting tabs (metal) are a good tight fit for plastic cargo net hooks or bungee hooks. Saddlebag bungees attach to footpeg brackets and the fender behind the reflector. All the rear-most hook attachments depend on you keeping the fender assembly. I happen to like a rear fender and so it is a prime solution for me. If you have a fender eliminator mod, then the rear attachments are going to be problematic. May have to machine something of your own design. I further secure the saddlebags by looping a stout velcro strap around the bag "yoke' where it crosse the passenger seat and the grab strap on the seat. This ensures that the whole assembly is and remains positioned properly fore and aft during use. So far the arrangement is speed tested to only .13K mphr.
The final complement makes a cozy little cockpit for the rider to settle into while supplying a back support for moments at rest while still allowing plenty of saddle room for changing seating position. Just put your ass where you see the green garbage containers in the picture. LOL, I didn't compose this picture very well.
When actually on the road, my Garmin resides in a Givi bag attached to the triple tree just below gauges and at top of tank cover and my hiking stick straps to the cargo netting or saddlebags along the right side of the passenger seat.
Quick connect power lead exits under the right side fairing cover at the front of the tank and camera shoes still need to be attached front and back to record video (next project this Wednesday).
Pictures of cargo net, saddlebags and tail bag hook attachment points just below:
Hope this makes sense.
Cheers.

Hey BlueZX14R'
Try RKA I have use them many year on all of my bikes from tankbags, seatbags, rackbags and saddlebags. You can even get them custom colored and the best part is they are made & designed in the US.

LOL I've got one and have had one on my ZX14 for years and now my ZG14 too.
I don't know his response, but mine is simple. I don't have to stand or walk while I'm riding my bike. When I do stand or walk, I'm not on the bike, and I'm using a cane.
I should have made a bet with you, easy money.

+1 to Black1 on RKA luggage. This stuff is worldclass, way better than Cortech etc.
I've known Richard and Kathy (the R and K of RKA) since I met Richard at Sears Point racing AMA in the late 1980s. All of it is handsewn in California, not a foreign piece on it.
I had RKA luggage (tank, saddlebag, seat bag) on my ZX11 when I sport-toured western Europe in 1991. Ran through some hellatious downpours backed up by howling winds, and even though I never put the rain covers on the luggage was dry inside. Helps to treat it with the stuff Richard sells, I forget the name but still have some at home. You almost have to wear a respirator to apply it, talk about nasty stuff. But once dry, it has no smell, and won't rub off, and then the nylon is really waterproof.
I had full RKA luggage on my ZX14 until I put Givi luggage on it, and even then continued to use the tank and seat bags.
The zippers are high quality and won't break or jump off the teeth like cheap Cortech zippers. And RKA luggage will last forever. Your bike will turn to a pile of rust before the luggage will wear out.

This unit works really well...has enough space for a weeks trip at least. You do need to remove the cowl...but that's okay. When it's strapped on there securely(straps come with bag)it won't move at all.Very nice and stylish actually. That's how it looks on my zx.You can move it forward some,or back. It'll stay put.
Bluezx...this would be perfect for what you need.
I just noticed...that post was 4 years ago!!!LOL!

Not the best pic but what I use is an Oxford Sovereign kit bag on the pillion seat and a pair of (old) FT Cargo soft throw over/saddle bags. I glued some soft foam to the undersides of the saddle bags so there's no chance of any paint damage and depending on what's in them I maybe support them with a couple of bungies to keep them clear of the exhaust cans.

Hey Grn.
Yeah, I saw those "Bags Connection" bags on another thread from you. I did not like the closeness to the plastic bits underneath, the bags looked like they rested right on the plastics.
So, no, not really interested in those, but thanks!
Anyone know what those bags are, from roderash? They look mebbe "Wolfman" brand, but I'm not sure...
I'll tell you why I'm looking for soft luggage now, in another thread. To Be Continued...

I posted up a new thread on Accessories, about a Hit-Air Air Bag type vest I'm wearing now.
I used to carry a backpack on my back and had enough room for stuff I wanted to carry. Now, not so much.
So, on to luggage choices!
Thanks, guys.

Wills: What brackets / mount points do you use, to keep the bags off the plastics?

They come with clear plastic(5mm..maybe less) adhesive cutouts to go on the side panels.
I'm beginning to see why you like this system so much Grn.
Can you please tell me, is it one large compartment? It does not expand, does it?
