What would you do to this cage ?
11/07/13 9:27 AM

This is from a rider in my area, this doesnt look like the cage just didn't see the bike, the cage was cruising along at a constant speed, then as soon as it saw the bike, it sped up, the cut right in front of the bike, no turn signals or nothing ... Me, I Would follow them to see if they go home, or at least get their license plate number, for future endeavours .....

1. Never ride with cagers.
2. Never sit along side of cagers and maintain their speed.
3. Never accelerate that slow away from a light you are the first one there [look both ways before nailing it].
4. Never ride without that long gap between car and you, was why you were collected being too close to begin with.
5. Always remember, where he is headed is where he was just there a second ago, so you turn where he was. Right now, you have no out but now you are in between cars?
6. Always think they 'I have to go/I have to be first' is a cager's mentality. Let them have it, stop entering their world, you are now the perp things begin to snowball.
7. If you do not like this type of action that is quite common between bike and car [left hand turn remind you where to look?], sell the bike. This sport is not for you. The sport is to dodge cars/debris/potholes/etc.

Yea, Hub I agree with you, I would have done things differently than he did, but ever since I almost got killed by some stupid bitch that I could not have avoided it no matter what I did, I get really pissed off easy,

The thing is, that if they did do it on purpose, they are going to keep doing it, until someone "rocks their world"
If you know what I mean, kinda like the schoolyard bully that messes with the wrong fat kid (that was me in Jr. High, the fat kid that is) ....

I don't hang around in blind spots. I typically keep moving slightly faster than the flow of traffic. Not fast enough to draw attention to myself and get a ticket, but fast enough that I don't end up spending any time where someone can't see me.

I typically keep moving slightly faster than the flow of traffic.

I kept that off the list to see who uses the same MO? And I bet you could get away with saying just that. If not rear ended, then side swiped as you see here, changing lanes, etc. No, I think that move was more too fast to set the winker, just take the open lane and cut off a car or bike. That's the mentality.

And to settle the argument, I'd ask the cager to choose... So there is one more off the road.

In all honesty...dude probably should have braked and let that cage move over.He had plenty of time to slow and let em pass over. Not that he was wrong in doing what he did...the biker...but why risk a sideslam like that?Truth is...cages are not aware of bikers most of the time...even if they look right at you....it somehow doesn't compute.I don't get it...you all don't get it(maybe)...but the cagers mostly don't ride bikes...we are a tad more aware than most drivers;)

Had almost the same deal just recently...except the driver was attempting to 'hide' IN FRONT of me...thinking (I guess)the pursuing cop wasn't gonna 'go there'...he did....thankfully.Posted it here somewhere...some drivers are REALLY ignorant;)

I agree about space, keeping visible and staying clear of blind spots. A friendly, "dent your door with my boot" to let you know I am here is also apropos. In the end cars are the greatest threat better to bow out, than push a bad position and see your ride ground into dust while astride a stretcher.

Because of this I'm researching a way to mount the scabbard for my .44 DE onto the interior of my Zero Gravity.

Yes, it's a lot of recoil and single action but for ship-to-ship engagements the superior energy delivered to target is prerequisite.

I considered a 20mm Oerlikon but demurred when faced with ammunition acquisition. Turns out the Mexican cartels are sitting on the sum of the surplus supply and are guarding it jealously.

7. If you do not like this type of action that is quite common between bike and car [left hand turn remind you where to look?], sell the bike. This sport is not for you. The sport is to dodge cars/debris/potholes/etc.

This is hard advice to hear and take. "I'm a better rider than that. Hell I'm invincible."

I've been practicing my patience lately.

2. Never sit along side of cagers and maintain their speed.

Hmmm. I do this for traffic control. I sit off their front quarter in plain view and they (normally) have to slow and manouver to change lanes, into my lane.

I just changed my mind about doing this anymore. a) They dont *have* to do anything, and b) I suddenly remember how close behind me they are, when they do it.

A friendly, "dent your door with my boot" to let you know I am here is also apropos.

Huh. Wolf, you've really done this, at speed? Kick a door on a moving cage?

So, then what happened?

Indeed. Better to just buzz through them it seems.

I only kicked at the side of one vehicle, my foot bounced off it like it had a recoil spring. No dent, just the personal satisfaction that one ahab recognized that he was being an Azz.
I think, maybe I can patent a boot that has a steel toe with steel spikes just for such duty, ie, "you are trying to kill me, here's a dent with my compliments...."

Hey wolf, I like that idea about the steel toe spike boot ! But you know what ? The reason I put this video up, is because I think the driver did it on purpose, the old, "your not going to get in front of me" crap !

So I agree with you 100 percent, someone does something on purpose to endanger my life (and inadvertently my family's life) I'm going to react, and react HARD ! I'm not taking shit off anyone no more ! So. California does that to you, more asshole per square mile than anywhere in the state, probably the country !!

Anyways ride safe My brothers, follow them and get their license plate number, you know it's not that hard to find an address once you got the plate number (wink, wink)

Just my 2 cents cuz traffic and idiot drivers get ridiculous here in philly too but the bike in the video
sounded a little quiet to me personally. I like my motorcycles to bark for reason like this one with
that idiot drifting lanes. At least with nice exhaust noise they might not see u if ur in their blind spot
But at least they can hear u and mayb that would keep them a little alert. Again just my 2 cents.

The only issue I have, is my size 13 feet. And sometimes I need to go up a size like for example with my Sidi boots (not wide enough to accept my mutant foot). Anyways my feet (specifically the toe business ends) are already touching the plastics. So I have to be careful with foot placement. I would struggle if I had an extended toe plate. So maybe a quick release toe spike on a spring mount is what will be necessary!

Thoughts?

Wolf, I'm astonished. The cage had it coming, of course, but I'm I'm trying to picture the scenario: The cage is now moving towards me and closing the side distance. I have to judge the escape route, decide to kick, prepare for the cycle's action / reaction response to the kick (without ever done it before, unknown cycle response). Kick, and deal with the cycle's response, and then deal with the potential cage response.

All within a blink of an eye.

Truely, I'm astonished.

I can just feel the team response here, on this site, as I read others amping up to deal with similar situations.

I remember, I generally get what I wish for. I also remember the days when LA was a light'em up on the freeway kinda place. I used to live and work there for awhile (married my 1st wife there).

I dunno guys. I'm not prepared to go to war over attitude. They need to be first? Fine, they can be first, be my guest. They making a mistake? Yup, I've made mistakes too, every day. I like loud air horns (and I pack two on my cycle) for those times.

Does anyone else agree that the cage in the video has the right rear brake light out?

I think I see it dark as the brakes come on and it's coming over.

This is clearly a case of "me first" by the cager, and *in my opinion* the cyclist should have anticipated it. He was back far enough to grant it without issue. The cage is also accelerating toward a red light, to make room to come over into the cyclist lane (and indicating the cyclist is seen). This is a clear indication of "I'm coming over. Watch out". If seen on a daily basis, which the text implies, then the lack of anticipation, and lack of granting it (or prepardness for it) is an issue for the cyclist to consider.

My .02: The cage decided he had room to go first, pushed his " me first" button in his brain from long use of practice, and then changed his mind when he saw how close the cycle was coming in (still coming in). ie: He "chickened out". Because he did this, and because the cyclist manouvered in the remaining room, there was no collision.

Is the cager stupid? Yup. Agressive? Yup, probably from practice. Can I say the same about the cyclist?

Yup.

It could have ended very differently. Luckily (a term I dont like in cycle operations) they both walked away, both probably a bit butt-hurt, but unharmed.

Now, amp it up with a steel toe or a gun. Go ahead and think about war.

About the brake light out. Some cars (dunno about this one) have a fault in the design of the circuitry so that if a signal lamp goes out, the others dont wink anymore when signaled. The other lamps come on, but dont wink. One of my newer, cheaper cycles does this even today.

I'm allowing for the possibility that mr. carger did actually signal, but it did not work on the car circuits.

It does not change the stupid factor on both sides.

Hi Meb,
If I recall correctly I got cut off I pulled up next to the car, who also added insult to injury by shaking his head. I swooped close gave er a kick, and lit the afterburners while shaking my head. I have never kicked at someone rampaging to push me off the road. I see now the miscommunicae - I was so mad, but in hind sight a deep breath and a middle finger might had been better.

Spaghetti a size with your hand, you wish it was that big. The execution reads:

1. Point your left index finger at the perp.
2. Cup your hand with how much spaghetti you think this next move is?
3. After the finger pointing, shake your arm up and down with the pack of imaginary pasta fazool!

All of a sudden, you damage property, you are now the perp: the law works in strange ways... Ask me.

"He was back far enough to grant it without issue"...exactly.Since that vid came out about the guy in the SUV...I've been seeing these kind of cage moves almost every ride.Expecting a cage to drive as if they were cyclists...ferget it.I wouldn't waste my safety on kicking someone's door.Bikers are always vulnerable.I try to find the safest way through and go for it...I don't hang out in the pack...I get clear...even if sometimes it means passing on a double yellow. We all know watching a vid isn't the same view we really have...visually.You have to think.."they don't see me"...and ride accordingly.EVEN if it 'seems'...."How COULDN'T THEY?"...mostly,they just don't.Not their fault really. They drive cages...not bikes. There's way more involved scanning the surroundings than just "Oh,he's applying his brakes...now what?"And moves like that cage did...VERY COMMON.Especially with older drivers...they don't think as quickly...and make dangerous moves without thinking about the consequences.Be it car or bike involved.

I'm not condoning that cager's move...just sayin...this happens all the time. You gotta think ahead of the rest. And enjoy the ride.
