Who's Your Daddy?:
01/06/10 2:55 PM

Looks like the new BMW S1000RR is with a whopping 191 rear wheel Hp at a stratospheric 13250 rpm measured on Akropovics dynomometer with an Akro pipe. The stocker laid down a paltry 185.53 at the rear tire.

More here: http://www.akrapovic.com/motorcycle-exhaust/products/bmw/model/s1000rr-2010/evolution-74/

Rook, I want one!

You're not serious. No way. You have to get yourself a second hobby to clear your mind. Wait until the the bikes out a year or two. See if it's all that they are saying it is. See if the Japanese make something better. Live in the past a little bit or you are going to go broke.

Throw a glass of ice water down your back. You got in on the deals at the right time and you got the hottest bike. Don't worry about that new bimmer with the crazy headlights for a while. Looks a lot like a ZX-10 if you ask me.

The BMW S1000rr is going for $13,000 here for a plain bike, no options. Trade in the CBR and the ZX-10 and you probably got it. Wait several months and do some reading before you consider that. Also consider that in a year there might be a whole new ZX-10. You're better off just living in the world of being a rock star on your mighty 08 zx-10. You're not getting passed are you?

See, now you have me thinking back and forth again. Yesnoyes no no yes no yes.

Don't do it.

yet

I don't think

I say BS on this one.Remember the 140 horse R6 acouple of years ago .Maybe the #'s are credible on the beemer, but high HP wont always get you down the road, or quater mile quickly. There are litre bikes ZX10.Gixxer1 turning quicker 1/4's

Oh boy, here we go again with BMW hp numbers... should I have said yet again?

Let's see the lap times against the cheaper jap liters first before we crown it king.

Come out with big #'s, like these ones shown above and you capture the worlds attention. You must admit they are some purdy numbers. In the Power to weight ratio, BMW came out in 2010 Claiming first place. Now the trash talk begins and we all want to see if she lives up to the claims. I just want know if it will stay together. Time will tell. Must wait must wait must must must must wait.

I know, this is why BMW is winning World Superbike and MotoGP, right? Oh, they aren't?

Still, every BMW I have ever ridden has been an absolute joy to ride. From the big new touring versions to the ancient pancake motor ones when they first came to America. Fantastic engineering and quality. Huge price.

Did I say, huge price? The guys I know with the big BMW motorcycles now aren't necessarily even good riders. They are simply rich enough to afford one.

In their deffence, they did come out with a 140 rwhp bike in 09-
it's the US spec R1! Way to go Yamaha, those euro spec ecus and harnesses
(and a ton of others) are selling well here now. Too bad the bike still
feels like it's firing on 3 cylinders.

The BMW is going to be a great bike that no doubt about that at all. It will faster or just as fast around a track or any place else as the rest of the 1000s. To crown the bike King because of HP numbers that may or may not be true seems odd to me. The BMW is still a very new bike and is enjoying lots of typical new bike hype from magazine, after market parts manufactures and people that repeat this stuff on the Internet. I certainly hope the BMW makes that much power, is faster, handles better and stops better(yes that’s important too) than ever thing else. That would mean in a year or two we are going to see even better bikes out of Japan for not much more money than you would pay for one now. However right now the BMW falls into the same category as the 200rwhp,200mph zx14 and the 200rwhp,200mph Busa oh and the 140 hp r6 that never happen. Take a look at this dyno by Akropovic for the new z1000..... Look at the tq numbers....LOL exactly

know, this is why BMW is winning World Superbike and MotoGP,

Not that a MotoGP bike is anything remotely close to what you can buy from the showroom floor even if you have enough money to do so. But I get your point the bike and BMW have yet to prove anything.

They are simply rich enough to afford one.

exactly this guy has a garage full of bikes to include a Ducati Desmo but would you let him ride your bike?

Rook you're killing me! I'm kidding about buying the Beemer, I'm done...finished..... as in .....broke. Even if I wanted one I couldn't afford it.

You guys are right, we have to wait for all the smoke to clear to see what we really have here. The magazines hype this stuff to sell........more magazines. Remember the 17,500 rpm redline on the R6 a few years ago..........it never happened. Remember just three months ago, the new Aprilia RSV4 was gonna put everyone back on the trailer? Now there's been rumours of connecting rod failures and low HP output on the ones imported to the U.S. Wait and see.

This puppy is off the Akro web site, blue is ZX-10 with Akro Evolution pipe and red is the BMW S1000RR with the same pipe. The ZX walks all over the Beemer til 11,500. The Beemer spanks it above there but is it really useable to run 14,000 rpm on the street?

Wow,
the zx10 has better bottom and midrange?
That's the weakest midrange on the 10r from all jap liters.
Top end power advantage and superior brakes dominate on the
track though, that's why the 09 6r stomps in it's class for example.

$800 more to ditch the ugly green and get the sexy blue/white scheme?
Good deal BMW style!

Still curios to see it on the showroom floor,
hopefully I get a chance to test ride one.

By the looks of that chart, I would guess the advantage to the S1000 in track riding would be in straightaways and only the widest of corners on a track. Is it realistic to imagine anyone would be riding over 10,000 rpm most of the time on a track with tight corners?

Actually, that dubious honor goes to the R1, see HP chart below. Best kept secret in the world Mass, the only thing holding back the ZX-10 down low is the pipe, more specifically the cat. Bolt on an Akro Race and the ZX-10 torque curve has a midrift bulge like Roseanne Barr, killer bottom end too. Check out Ivan's website and see what he's been able to do with the '08/'09 model.

lytnin, is it difficult for you to do your own work on the BMW without BMW specific tools?

Have you seen any dyno charts between the CBR and the ZX-10, both fitted with 4-2-1s?

Yea, I have rook, if you remove the ignition retard on the CBR it unleashes a lot more topend. If you ditch the stock exhaust on the ZX-10r you pick up bags of low to midrange with even more on top. The bottom line is these two engines become so close when modified you can't tell them apart.

Yep, go to a WSB race where everyone is running modified machines and they're all going about the same speed and turning lap times within a fraction of each other. So buy whatever blows your skirt up and enjoy life! BTW you know you want a ZX-10 Rook!
