Ducati 1199 Panigale For Sale....Cheap!
06/22/12 1:29 PM

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ducati-Panigale-1199-S-ABS-/221046582060?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3377672b2c#ht_500wt_1204&clk_rvr_id=356862510780

Selling my 1199 panigale S. Low mileage, as new.

Only had it 2 weeks and selling it for something less ducati. If you love two stroke bikes, you'll love the panigale. It is completely devoid of any midrange power whatsoever. It EVEN burns oil like a two stroke! I will provide a litre of fully synthetic oil for the new owner, as you'll need it within the next 500 miles.

This would look great in anyones living room, which is the best place for it as it looks pretty ridiculous when stationary at the front of a queue of traffic after it has inevitably stalled on you for no other reason except it felt like it. This bike isn't completely turd, it does have one or two of the features that all other superbikes have in bucketloads at a far cheaper price. The top end rush is mental for a V twin, its just a shame you have to sit your way through the gaping chasm of a midrange flatspot until it hits 8000rpm. If whilse filtering through traffic a car should decide to U turn in front of you (as they do) then prepare for impact. Open the throttle and the bike will cough and splutter like an RGV250 whose main jets have fallen out.

Would suit rich people who have other modes of decent transport along with a selection of other fussy expensive overpriced vehicles/horses. No test pilots, no ridiculous offers, no part exchanges as I've already bought an Aprilia rsv4 which is twice the bike and left enough money spare to buy loads of other nice things.

Hmmm.... they've already issued a recall on some because of swing arm to suspension attachment bolts...

June 20, 2012—Ducati recalled certain 2012 Panigale motorcycles, because an incorrect screw was used to connect the swingarm to the rear suspension linkage.

If the linkage detaches from the swingarm, the suspension would collapse and affect the driver’s ability to handle the motorcycle, which would increase the risk of a crash.

Fast Bikes tested one and said it handles like a scaffold pole with a fork and shock bolted too it. They also seem to smoke and burn oil.

Dyno says an honest 172 rear wheel HP and very light but the performance numbers and top speed are bottom of the class....what gives there?

Don't know yet but I would avoid one until they get it all sorted.

That link isn't working apparently, a bunch are for sale with very low mileage, kinda makes you wonder.

This is WOT happens when you push "over square" past its limits. If gigantic pistons acting on a crank throw of 5mm was the answer then that is what you would find in a current F1 engine. They wanted to cling to the L twin engine but get 10r output. Good luck.

Yep, that thing may turn out to be a disaster for Ducati, time will tell. I'm thinking that frameless design never worked on the GP11, what makes anyone think it'll work any better on a Superbike?

I can't wait for the Japs to get really pissed and knock all of these posers off the podium.

A friend who has an 1198 rode another friend's Panigale and his assessment was that the thing was gutless until you wrung it's neck into 5-figure rpm. You can add displacement, but when it comes down to it, putting more horses on top means less on the bottom.

I'm kinda disappointed I was expecting more from Duc. At the end of the day this is just a ZX-10 with more bling!
The bike didn't even make to the French Test: Ducati didn't want them to use anything else than the supercorsa! Still the testers said it was the best at changing direction. The main problem: The chassis cannot handle the power and put it to the ground. That sounds familiar lol! During the test you even see the rider going off track lol Carlos Checa is logging some seat time with him so the next generation should be better.

The Beemer was proclaimed victor once again, I think the Honda was second, third Aprillia! The ZX-10 was numero siete. Why? Lack of midrange. They said it could have made the top five with -1 up front. There was 3 maybe 4 testers and best lap times were averaged to find the fastest bike.

Hmmm... makes me wonder... the Motorcyclist Jul '12 issue with the big 4 Jap bikes has the ZX10 as the winner... turned out faster lap time than the CBR, Gixxer and the R1... and higher speeds down the straights. Motorcyle USA has the CBR 1st, BMW 2nd and the ZX10 3rd. After the Panigolly let down, not so hype on European evaluations... But the CBR has been vastly improved! And without complex electronics! Might be something to look at, cuz' it's a pretty nice looking bike!

After the Panigolly let down, not so hype on European evaluations...

Really? IMO if you're looking for truth in a mag you have to look at Euros (and I'm not saying that because I'm one lol). There is less money involve and less marketing. I haven't seen any Euro tester proclaiming the Panigale victor. MCN, the french, german all said the chassis and the power needed an overhaul! The positive reviews all came before they got their hands on one. I can't blame them the bike looks really good on paper. Having ridden a ZX-10 I can agree with them. The bike has some serious top end but man it takes forever for that power to come through. On the other hand, the Beemer, CBR, Aprilia etc all have some serious mid and you know what rules the track! World SBK is a good example Sykes had a hot start but the Max's Aprilia, both beemers and Jonathan Rea CBR are starting to dominate. That being said when everything is put on a scale (chassis, electronic, weight, road manners, price etc) not choosing the Zed X is hard.

* Actually one of the tester has one, he uses it in this riding two up special: too bad it is in French those guys have some really good advice and cool reviews:

Motorcycle USA has always been down on the ZX-10... so no surpise there. Fast Bikes Liter Shootout last month put the new 2012 BMW S1000RR back on top ahead of the second place ZX-10R with the CBR, R1 and Gixxer dragging up the rear. Last year the 2011 ZX-10R dethroned the S1000RR for top honors at Fast Bikes so what gives?

It seems like a lot of it depends on which way the wind is blowing that day or it all comes down to personal preference/bias of the testers. I know from owning a lot of different sportbikes and riding them all back to back that the absolute biggest difference in handling beween any of them comes down to.........tires! My '06 ZX-14 on fresh rubber is easier to flick into a turn than my '09 ZX-6R on old squared off tires...no kidding! Put them both on brand new rubber and the Supersport becomes king again.

I guess my point is that all of these bikes are so close in performance now, there's almost no difference between them.

Getting back to the Panigale, I think it's got handling issues i.e. as in it's too stiff. The frameless design relies upon extremely short load paths with no lateral give hence the chattery affect some riders aer complaining of in the corners.

I'm not sure if setup can cure this issue as it's not the suspension at fault it's the super ridgid structure it's attached to, almost like having a hard tail.

I'm starting to think I would rather have an 1198 over the new 1199 Panigale, the 1198 had it's quirks but more character than the new one. Ducati refuses to do it the same way as everyone else, they want to follow their own road but in this case it looks like it's not working.

Fast Bikes this month did proclaim the Panigale victor in a three way shootout between the KTM 1098, 1199 Panigale and Aprilia RSV4 but by the narrowest of margins over the RSV4. They did complain of handling quirks, engine surging and lack of midrange on the 1199. Why buy a V-twin if you have no torque, I mean what 's the point? If I want screaming top end, I'd go to a four pot like the ZX-10R or BMW S100RR.

That's a small narrow group. You can tell that was marketing. They made a test like that so they could throw a bone at the italian. I was talking about King of the Liter!
I saw another test were they did best of Europe and best of Japan, the Beemer won that one too. With the Augusta, I think the Panigale is the sexiest liter out there, but like you said what's a twin without TQ???!!!! They trying to take what was an excellent track bike and make it a road bike. Bad idea! At the end of the day it doesn't matter how you slice it... the Beemer is crushing everything and it's showing in the WSBK. After two years of racing it is changing the natural order.
I used to think I could live with the punched in headlight but after seeing the Panigale, I would have to hide the Beemer ugly looks with race fairing!

LOL DK - I'm friends with many Europeans so not dissin' u guys in any way!!!

Not saying that they put it on top, just saying that I saw more than one video test and read more than one "Euro" article saying that the Duc was IT and that nothing else would compare (paraphrasing of course)... And these were hands on evals... hop on boob-tube and check it out... They hyped it up so much and it turns out to not live up to it so much... it IS light as hell though 10lbs lighter than the ZX10, which is already light as hell! And it is still pretty as hell.

It seems like a lot of it depends on which way the wind is blowing that day or it all comes down to personal preference/bias of the testers.

+1 - that's what I think also no matter who is doing the testing...

I guess my point is that all of these bikes are so close in performance now, there's almost no difference between them.

Hit the nail right on the head!!!

I did not care for the Squabbles or the tension it created. That fact that we lost a member to this problem is nothing to be happy about. We can assign a number or letter to the member to make them easier to write off or forget, but at the end of the day we are one less. One would like to think that the common bond of a wonderful machine would be enough to promote a sense of community. I hope we can all take a page from this and move forward with a little more respect and civility. "Life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react to it.

(I promise to be a little better tomorrow than I was today)

Kruz, Like you said, I more banned myself so the Y factor would not be here on his weekends cleaning up things that are not Z related. All you need to do is to jump on each bike, squeeze it's little neck out for all you can throw at them. You will find one bike that you can drop lap times with this bike than the other bike. The next rider will do the same. There are two bikes that now rate what? That one rider can go faster on the one bike? What happened to the other bike?

Is that fair to the manufacturer? Are they carving a niche market? Here is our roller blade boot. A wheel is a wheel? Who said the bikes were all on par? You do know Suz is coming out with a whole new line? How far that extends to the busa as an R beater is just months away.

And if that is where the busa gets a face lift or Suz is more conservative than Honda? Same old fat and slower Suz model or bring back the fold it lost? And then you have mother teapot... "We knew Slowzuki was coming out with their new birds of a feather flock together, so we added a plug and play thumb-drive. Choose your file... Rain delay - Drag day - Euro R kidding me, rightell me how to ride files.

X will be back, only drama, give it 72 hours, leopards don't change their spots. X Why Zee? That Equation is simple X=GAS'd.
