RE: gas tank passenger handles

i was searching for the same thing... wondering if anyone has had experience with these... here is what i have found so far:
i have still not found anyone with experience with these. it seams most riders prefer to not have passengers, and those that do, don't want to spend the money. i have estimated the costs for these at over $150 not including tax or shipping, and most of what i have actually found has been over seas. i am contemplating making my own, but haven't figured out a design just yet. the second pic of the product, simply reffered to as "holder", i think i like the best. i am a wide bodied guy and while most of the ladies i ride with can reach the tank, they would not be able to reach the bars if they were positioned over the fuel cap. i like that the Vinxx product is removable, but its just a little too busy for my tastes, but does have a little bling factor. the Holder is just simple, and i like it.
please let me know if anyone DOES have experience or knows of anyone. i am very interested to hear some feedback.
Jesse: i understand what you are saying... but the forces being exerted are across the horizontal plane of the bike. the rider is still going to take the brunt of the force in emergency braking situations... this just gives the passenger a slightly more solid handle on the bike, and would take some of the strain off the rider while braking, particularly going down hills. i don't imagine the handles will be used to life up or down, so i am not very concerned about denting that part. well, thats my take on it anyway.

Considering that is for carrying a passenger, that is pretty cool looking. If you are serious, I have seen handles that screw into the back of the passenger footpeg mounting brackets. Pair tank handles with those and your honey will ride in sporty comfort.

That Carbon Fiber one looks kinda cool.Personally,I would want the passenger to be holding on to me at the waist.Leaning with me and all that. That to me seems the safest. And most comfortable.Feedback from the passenger.
I know what your sayin Rook...ya...seen that also. Our 14's have that deal there.BUT...I think it's PRIMARILY for raising the bike on a centerstand?Could work okay though for a grab rail?

Close there bean but no C-gar on this one. You are talking about he black bar there I see that's a luggage rack. What I am talking about is an actual handle of sorts. Looks an awful lot like a folded up rearset on the passenger footpeg bracket. You see that large nob right below the frame. There is a big hex tool bolt in it - I think it is an 8mm, maybe even a 10mm. Well, I have see some bikes with a handle pointing backward fastened to the footpeg bracket right at that large bolt hole. The handle fits right in that arch in front of the side tail fairings.
Believe me Rookster...being "in love" with the IDEA of "being in love" IS NOT the same thing as "being in love"!!!!!

True story Rook!Boobies....hmmmm...ya...nice.Gonna switch gears here(LOL)(I've had enough "girl stuff" for a while)
Kawi sells those grab bars...they're stock on the euro models with the centerstand. It's very possible that anyone trying to reach those for grab bars may well be...well...a NEANDERTHAL!Looks like a pretty long reach to me anyway.

rook I had the handle on my CBR1100 rear tail faring, she didn't like it when I go to a racing mood eccelleration with me mates sport bikes in opening the throatle right up as she didn't have enough strenght in her arms to stop the sensation of getting thrown off the rear mate, as I said earlier she nodded her head when I asked Bub do you use the Venturer "L" brackets she said she really likes them and feels more safe when !!!! as Privateer bagged these racks by saying who would have a "Sissy Bar" on a ZX1400 and it isn't !!!!! its a rack and a glove pocket holder that comes off in seconds and can be reversed over the pillion seat when required for solo riding, contrary to most other bros here I like taking my wife with me and sometimes not! so until today I had never known it has a multi purpose besides luggage anyway these are "her words" in regaurds to "Feeling safe safer & relaxed" if the situation was reversed I wouldn't trust me knowing me myself LOL

Some of you remember when passenger grab bars at the back of the passenger seat were standard, and a strap went across the seat that the passenger was supposed to grab onto.
LOL when I was young, I always had a sweet young thing on the back, every girlfriend I ever had loved to go motorcycle riding or they weren't my girlfriend. I'd say grab onto the bar behind your seat..... they'd wrap their arms around me. I'd say you can use the strap if you want..... they'd wrap their arms around my waist.
I gave up, it was more fun anyway. Rook is right. Except leather dulls the sensation, some.
I ride with folks now with real touring bikes, and their "girls" sit up in thrones behind the rider like on top an elephant. I gotta think it takes a certain type of person to sit back there like that with no control over your situation whatsoever. I couldn't do it!
For yucks, I might just buy a CVO Ultra Glide, but then I'd have to get a girlfriend to sit in the throne behind me, and then I'd wonder all the time how she could stand to sit back there like she was in an easy chair. Probably texting the whole ride, too.

This was my prototype wife friendly seat, I got a hold of a second hand seat and made this myself. Instantly made my wife more comfortable and a better pillion (I think that's the handle that you are talking about Rook, that is the accessory handle that comes with the centre stand kit)
Then I bought the Corbin seat with the backrest, wife absolutely loves it and virtually dosn't need to hang on.
and of course I've still got my stock seat for solo work.
And if we are going somewhere serious I set up the whole thing and she's got grab handles everywhere

I won't tell you guys what my wife grabs onto when she's on my bike!
But, seriously, I would look into the belt they make for the front rider which has handles the passenger can grab. I think it's called the Buddy Belt. A lot better for you too. You just have to put it on.

Yeah, I've seen them advertised at twisted throttle Edge, they call them "Oxford Rider Grips" I almost ordered them to try only $29.99

I've seen that belt in use, they work great. The strap is not very wide or very padded, and tends to dig, though.

In the USA, the centerstand kit does not come with the grab rail like it does stock in Europe.
Because I wanted to put a top case mount on mine, and it uses the same mounting points as the grab rail, I had to purchase a European part number for that small piece of plastic that covers from the top of the brake light to the seat. It has a slot in it to allow for the grab rail to fit.
Was going to get it in carbon fiber, but since you have to flex it so much to remove it, and I wanted to drill a hole in it for the quick disconnect allowing the removal of the Givi top case adapter (mount), I opted to just get it in matching color (MMSB). So my bike isn't all carbon fiber. Heh.
The backrest Brenny has in the bottom pictures looks like a standard Corbin piece.

This is the handle that I was referring to Privateer, the Australian ZX14 is virtually the same as the American one.
The grab handle that you can see in the last photo, with the Corbin seat I had to purchase separately as well so I could fit the Givi side racks.

Here's my 2 cents.
+10 on the boobies Rook. LOL
Now for the serious part. I tell my passengers to use their legs on my hips to supplement their hold on me. In my 30 plus years of riding seems to be very effective. The grab handle some bikes have also help alot. Feedback on reaching behind themselves the whole time gets un-comfortable though. I did have one on the bike that liked to lean against the tank with her hands. Think maybe she just liked squishing them against my back. (trying to stay G-rated).
I personally would not want anything sticking out from my tank. Think it would annoy the hell out of me.

+! on the tank yuck it may be easily removed but If do that repetitiously you would stuff the thread where they bolt on/off after a few times ! mmmmmm expensive !! One great thing about my wife on the bike is I don't feel much different to when riding solo, just a bit more weight with her as pillion.
