anyone running a Brocks full system?
03/10/10 2:08 PM

Just pulled the trigger on a full system for my '06. I tour a lot so the Brocks Gen 3 street smart system they have on clearance for under 700 clams looked like a good deal given their rep ..Anyone running this pipe and how do you like it?
It is supposed to be ridiculously light - 8 lbs for the whole deal ..so that savings alone is a bargain..
One other question ..I was thinking of getting the muzzy mid range velocity stacks. Have any of you used them and whats your opinion on them? My brother has about the same bike as me now - an 07 ..with the same mods but not this so I was wondering if the stacks would give a slight advantage in mid range roll ons

HI PAINTER>>>>>>!!

That sounds like a great deal....Are you sure that is the whole system or is it just the can/midpipe?? Brocks offers deals for people who have the G3 STReetsmart header already and want to swap out mufflers fore track/street use. I was thinking about going that rout a while back.

If you get the whole system for 700, I'd say grab it as long as your sure you won't be hankering for a Brock's CT system. That's the best and it's just a few hundred more. A couple members have CTs so you could get some input here.

Painter, if you want to email me at dfayas@att.net i would be very appreciative. I've been talking with another member here on the forum about getting a hold of you. POP---you just showed up like magic--LOL -- almost like it was planned out by someone. I have some official business I'd like to talk to you about. Sorry about drifting off topic but when the time is right, it's right. !)

Rook it is a full Generation 3 Street Smart system that they have put on clearance for 695.00. It is a system set up for those who use hard bags like mio ..so I am glad I waited this long before jumping for any system. It is NOT 8 lbs as I just found out from the shipping wieght. The Brocks add was wrong which I noted to them. It is like twice that wieght- dunno for sure kuzz it aint here yet .

Besides the pipe I am doing a total re paint on "Jackson" with my own design....and possibly doing some other things as well before summer rolls around..
Here are some things I might or will do
- work on suspension upgrades - springs and shocks- hopefully. My brother scored some killer springs and shocks from Germany ..which I will look at getting if they work out for him on his 14
- New wheels???or at minimum strip and paint old ones
- dumping the ribbed panel on the side for a smooth one - this I will absolutely do
- hugger for sure
- heated grips for sure
- oiler????
- Givi three piece luggage - gottah do-well at least the two piece deal
- upgrade the seat one way or the other - I will do it myself or buy a new one. I can run 10 hrs on the stock one BUT it is not perfect ..the forward slide is annoying.
- tank protector
- new chain and sprockets - done (I got 24 K out of my stock chain and it was totally hooped when done- barely made it home on my last ride it got so bad!!)

I have gone over the motor and it is 100%. On checking the valve clearances I found it has barely moved off the factory settings after 24 K miles. No shims were neeeded!!
By the way one of the reasons I went with a full system as opposed to a dual slip on is the oil splattering the exhaust tubes on chain side ..annoying

I do hope Kawi keeps making the 14 as I will simply switch out my old horse when it is hoopped for a new one. Once you ride this thing ..well you get hooked ..If the 14 is discontinued ..I prolly will have to go to the Busa but the ergos on it might be a problem for long haulers like mio..

You can't pass up that Gen 3 deal. That's like the price of a cheap set of slipons.

I've owned Brocks full and slip ons systems. I've also owned both Muzzy full and slip ons. Brock quality is 10 times better then Muzzy plus they have waaaaay better customer service. Actually Muzzy has "NO" customer service. I will never buy another Muzzy product. Painter you made the right choice.

my only concern with this pipe is it is HUGE..we shall see..If it is truly too huge I will look at getting another of their offerings even if more coin. I have some clams available.

I am running the gen 3 full system with the titanium can, I absolutly love it, extremely light and quiet around town. This setup along with a pc3 give me 188HP on my last dyno run. When on the gas hard it has a nice bark to it, nothing abnoxious just perfect in my book. Brocks support as mentioned dozens of times, is the best out there.

Agreed, Hindle is a great product. They make many of the exhausts that have others names on it that are top dollar like Graves.

got the pipe today ..excellent piece of craftmanship and light. Looks perfect and for under $700.00..I scored a home run with this deal. Now on to some new lighter wheels .. possibly suspension upgrade, velocity stacks and and ??

Hey any of you wrench heads know what I could do to help out the stock suspension?? My suspension has some miles on it and was thinking I need to do some stuff..change the oil in the front forks -wondered about the front springs ..
and especially about the rear shock settup. Should I change that out or what.
I do some pretty aggressive back country twisty runs with my brother who is going to be right with me on his 14 which he has just tricked out. I do not want to be lagging in handling.

hope this helps...from an email I sent..
I have a few questions on the pipe you have listed on clearance, the Generation 3 StreetSmart Exhaust System for the 08 zx14.

They are 1, this system says it’s made for the hard beetle bags, how much lower of an angle does it sit then the standard gen 3 streetsmart system?
Do you have pictures side by side so I can see the difference?

2. Do you have a dyno chart (of the realistic gains I can expect to see on my 08 zx) with the map I would receive if I buy the exhaust and power commander from you directly?

3. On the order section, there is a drop down where one can select the 20” muffler- titanium, polished or carbon fiber, are they all the same price $695

4. Is this a 4-2-1 header?

5. I have been told by others that the system does not weigh 8lbs as listed, they say its closer to 14, can you tell me exactly how much this system listed for sale does weigh?

Answers:

1. I can't really answer that question. We sent a set of Corbin been beetle bags to our manufacturer and said build our system to fit this. We originally built the systems in 2005…. my graphics computer hard drive died in 06 and I have no idea where the back-up would be housed. Sorry.

2. It's the exact same system, just a little straighter which usually makes more power. You can scroll down to the ZX-14 diaries here: http://www.brocksperformance.com/frontparchives/frontpagearchives.html for Dyno charts ---your 08 should make 3-4 HP more than my 06 listed set up apples to apples. We provide full map support for the 08-09 for the USB or PCV units.

3. Yes.

4. On our certified scale with the generation three 14” oval titanium muffler it's about 8.75 lbs. with the 20” Ti muffler it’s about 9.8 lbs…. I don't know how to make one that weighs 14 pounds? Even the 20 inch carbon system would be about 12.5. But I will have my staff change the notes in our description. It appears that was an oversight taken from another description?

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Brock

(Cory--- please use the weights listed in my note 4 (for the 20” mufflers) in the description here: http://prostores2.carrierzone.com/servlet/brockracing/-strse-1651/Generation-3-StreetSmart-Exhaust/Detail

I pointed out to Brocks that the shipping wieght of their pipe was nearly 20 lbs. They told me the packing was about 5 lbs. I told them from that there was no way 8 lbs was the wieght of their whole system.
Now they have changed the wording to read this:

" The standard StreetSmart package comes with a 20 inch long Titanium Oval Race Muffler. The total system weight is just over 12lbs. This Gen 3 system is designed to be used with beetle bags (saddle bags)"

I roughly wieghed the pipe I got and it wieghed in at about 14-15 lbs but I just wieghed it with me holding it on the bathroom scales soooooooo prolly not too accurate.

It is a great pipe and all need. Its less than half the wieght of stcck!
I think who ever wrote up the system to be wieghing only 8 lbs total took the wieght of the can alone to be the wieght of the whole system.
An honest mistake I'm thinkin.

I've had many systems, but I liked the Orient Express the best for the street. I've owned two Brocks (sidewinder and alien head) and they have both been great products that make a lot of power.

one last question..I noticed in all of Brocks instructions for the mounting of their pipes no mention made of replacing the copper washer that the headers bump up against in the motor exhaust ports to seal. I think these should be changed out for the new system but is that necessary?

Painterdude, if you're wondering about velocity stacks for the 14, go to bikeland and type in "velocity stacks" on the search button. There's an interesting thread on the stacks. Ryan Schnitz did some dyno testing on them.
After reading it, you can see if they're for you.

I have several friends and myself all have reused the same gasket with no leaks. Hell I don't even have a torque wrench. Just snugged em up real good and went with it. No problems. A buddy has the street meg and I think it sounds great. You're gonna like it dude.

I just put on the Brocks sidewinder, and the gaskets are leaking. Maybe it was installer error, but I doubt it. I need to replace them soon......

Got new gaskets then slammed the Brocks Gen 3 system on ..but since I have so much else to do I have not ridden with it yet. It went on easily and looks 100% better than stock. I am still trying to see why they were such an amazing price. Good fit and finish good sound ..not too loud which is cool by me for long hauling.
* note to others ..In the instructions they say to leave the short stacks the manifold fits onto loose before you try and install the manifold and the rest ..I finger tightened the short stacks, then fit the manifold onto it to make sure everything lined up ..then took the manifold off torqued the short stack bits tight then re-attached the manifold. Worked fine.
If ya try and torque things up with the manifold in place it is near impossible to do- well with my cheapo torque wrench it would have been anyways.
Onward to suspension land ..My stock stuff is hooped ..need to do an upgrade but have no clue..Wilbers is what my brother used ..

This would be a lot better thread with a few good quality pics......Mr. Painterdude. And when I put my aftermarket exhaust on. I replaced the gaskets to. I couldn't see spending all that money on a high quality exhaust like Brock-Hindle then trying to save a couple bucks on the gaskets. Just didn't make sence to me.
