T-shirt idea
01/21/10 3:08 PM

Let me know what you think about this...

I give our graphic designers this picture:

and ask them to do a rendering of it -- maybe just the bike and the yellow line indicating the curve and maybe moving the bike a bit forward so you can see the curve behind it better.

And then we put under it: Faster is better

If they made it less photo-realistic and more like a color illustration, without losing the fact its a ZX14 (or by putting it somewhere on the illustration) it would a) go on the shirt easier and cheaper, and b) actually look better.

This photo is a great template for that, too!

If I want an actual photo on my t-shirt, though, I can take a digital picture to a t-shirt place and get it fairly cheap, one-off. I don't want a photo on my t-shirt. Heh.

If you are looking for an iconic image (logo) that will work at small and large sizes, a straight on view or side view would be best. Perhaps a drag launch/burnout image with a smoke cloud.

For a narrative image using the photo above as a starting point, I wouldn't mind seeing a few other 14s behind. That will become a full blown illustration and be a lot of work. If you are going for a story telling image, it gets more complicated and also by necessity, the image becomes very specific. It will not lend itself to every application.

I suggest Kawi green for the bike.

Do we have a committee starting here?

Exactly what I had in mind. Use the photo as a "template" and turn it into an illustration.

I myself wouldn't be so interested in a drag launch/burnout image, because that's not what I do. I would suggest 2 different designs -- one for the drag racers and one for those of us who enjoy high speed corner carving. Another one or 2 bikes behind might be good. Not sure. Kawi green is probably a good idea. -bg

Do you guys really want the forum address on it? I was thinking it might clutter it up, and wasn't particular interested in advertising the forum on it. I could go either way, though... -bg

I thought the idea was to let the shirt promote the forum while having a cool looking shirt to boot if you dont like something about the design you put in your two cents and from that input we are able to mold what we would like to have. I too thought it should have something on it in one corner or another like (founded by) and put like BG and ? The other guy or whatever I really don't care what the stock picture starts from as all the bike pics I have have someone elses picture on it anyway ,but for you guys that don't like someone elses pic on it maybe we can come up with a logo for the site as well so you can use that as a way to show you support. See Its about the site not YOU but your Input and Ideas go into nucleus and from that (WE )are able to do something together though we live in so many different places and this shirt and the site become our common THREAD...

moving along as to what one of the guys said a patch would be cool in the (future) maybe but lets start here and see what we can do I for one never really liked the kawi green as it wont match my eyes lol but I like what we have to start with so far and one or two choices of the final cut or cuts would be great say poll it in the end I am just throwing some Ideas out there see how easy someone elses Ideas can help you form your own That is what this site helps me to do ...xxx

darryle, Guy co girl says; "Verrooom-Veroooom, more like a 1979 Zuki..." He says; Excuse me... 'Well, you're excused."

After road racing, I went back to drag racing with a GS1150 in AMA sanctioned races. Had a custom made jacket made in 1985. I had the same colors made as that year bike. I can still zip up this here jacket. Kind of tight but fits without blowing out the zipper. Was I as fat back then or did I have them make it larger for internal protection under the jacket; I have no clue?

These days, I run long sleeve shirts for added arm protection. A denim jacket over this old racing leathers. Sweats under the denim overalls. Thick socks. Ankle high work boots. Cell phone and wallet in the top pockets of the overalls [is where the tight fit comes in] and I am suited up for summertime riding. That is how scared I am of going down with less skin to give away. I'm getting older, not younger. Dumber? Yes, that too.

I had a few numbers sewed in on the arms.

Would I ride with a t-shirt? Decline, thanks. Don't much anymore. Not when I've been taking the heat with a long sleeve shirt during the last few summers. I am still too crazy or more performance oriented being the politically correct way of saying, hanging out the jewels just about every time out on that bike.

bg you've worked hard with this formum.I agree with xxxses 100%Hub I apoligise the helmet has an old bell look to it.The points cover does stick out a bit to far to have the svelt Kawasaki look.It was hard to tell from the picture but I thought the front fender was a little more angular like a KZ.I hope you didn't have a Stevie Baker hair-cut back then

Adobe Photoshop has a great filter which makes a photo look like an oil painting, or pastel, or charcoal sketch, or... I would like a T-shirt with the forum referenced. I think it would be fun. The last time this came up there were a lot of negative comments. There are participants who seem to feel that the forum reflects on them personnaly, somehow. But it's not a thing on which everyone needs to agree. Those who want should participate and those that don't should try not to rain on the parade. Unfortunately some have a driving need to be negative. Just watch...

Maybe, to avoid confusion, you could put the names of those who don't like the idea on the shirt, somewhere, so people will not think they had endorsed such an uncool idea?

Watching the drag races at night is very cool after dark. You can see flames coming out of exhausts.

Ok, here's my two cents:

On the front of the T-shirt, put ZX-14 on the top right (while facing the shirt) and on the back, have a picture with the website URL on the bottom. I personally like the picture you posted b, but make it black/white with an icon feel to it. Make it about half the size of the back of the T-shirt squared off in the middle top so you have room for the URL at the bottom. I'm on a Mac and have a pretty slick font collection. I'm actually considering T's for my site as well so if you'd like to PM me or contact me, I'm here for ya. I'm usually not on messenger unless I know someone will be online.
