Isle of Man TT
08/11/10 1:07 PM

Rook and I were talking about going to the Isle of Man TT to spectate. It's gotta be the greatest two wheeled show on earth. Anybody ever been? I'm thinking that getting a hotel room is going to be just about impossible unless you book two or three years in advance.

That's practically in JAFO's back yard, I wonder if he would have the inside track?

I just checked one hotel, the Isle of Man Hilton, rooms were still available during the TT and rate was 90 pounds per day. Maybe next year I'll do it.

Are there any sites on the net that are covering it live? Never see coverage of it on the tube.

^^That was sort of my thought....it's like watching any sport live...watching it on TV is bound to provide much better coverage. Especially when there is a course that is 22 miles long (or how ever long it is). It would be a great experience to visit the TT but I wouldn't do it thinking the view would be better. It's too big to have a perfect view. Would be cool though. If $$$ were no object, that would be something I would love to be a part of at least one time in my life. I certainly have seen video of the race with commentator voice in so there must be some kind of coverage.

That would be perfect if you could pick out a fast corner to watch at and have a TV with for viewing the rest of the race.

Thanks Scott. lol-- I haven't watched TV since Highlander reruns stopped running in about '97. I don't even subscribe to any kind of TV service. I remember seeing "twist the throttle" last week when at my parents house with the kids. They probably have the same TV service that you do. There was some programming about track/road racing. If I break down and start paying for cable, I'll have to look for it.

http://www.eastofenglandbikers.com/?Members_Articles:Trackday_Related:The_Isle_of_Man_TT_Course_in_a_nutshell

Just reading the article scares me away from ever wanting to ride the TT course at speed but it would be awesome to watch the top riders in the world hitting 200 mph on narrow country roads.

John Mcguiness holds the coruse record here at an average speed of over 131 mph. The course is 37 miles long and has over 200 turns of every type from hairpins to sweepers. Only person I know that could go faster than that would be 1Bad but he wouldn't go cause they're a bunch of wussies and his 14 would outrun all of 'em. LOL! Heck, the hot air alone would propel him to speeds far in excess of 200!

Rossi says he'd never race here..too dangerous, you gotta have the big plums or don't even bother to show up.

Jafo, let's shoot for the 2011 TT, I'll check on airfare and hotel accomodations, it's from May 28 to June 10 2011.

@Kruz I would definitely be game to make a trip out there next yr, and I know a few of my buddies would make the trip too.... I try to watch it every time it comes on whether its a rerun or not....

@Rook I believe it to be on DirecTv thats what I have and my one buddy that has cable seems to never be able to find it... Channel 281 which is HDTheater...

@Scott I try to watch Motorcycle Mondays faithfully but it seems like there are more reruns then there are new episodes... watching the history of the R1 and GSXR is fun but they don't show the Kawasaki enough.....

I'm checking hotels today, hope I can find one available for the dates of the TT. When are you coming to Dallas, plenty of fast bikes for you to ride when you get here.

The yellow guy was pretty fast on the throttle but that doesn't do much good if there is no room to pass. Looks like Yellow has a backpack on??? and a lic plate??? You mean to tell me regular people ride the track and wipe out with the pros?

C'mon Jafo, best weather starts here in another couple of weeks, mid-September through late October.

What three days should I plan for the IOM TT? I want to see the Senior TT, that is what McGuiness runs right?

Jafo, I'm trying to book a room for three nights on the IOM during the TT races and no luck, no rooms available so far at any of the hotels.

Any ideas on how to find a vacancy, may have to book several years in advance?

Jafo, I'm starting to think I might need to book a hotel in Ireland, possibly Dublin and take the ferry over each day. Is that an operational possibility and are hotels in Dublin going to be booked up solid as well during that time frame?

If you know someone from the Isle that can recommend a good hotel with vacancies, let me know and I'll book now. It looks like we're not too far from County Cork, my ancestral home. I've always wanted to go to Ireland but never made it, maybe this is my year to go.

hey dude, dont worry just yet! the ferries dont run everyday so its not feasible to do as you suggest, but if you can come to dublin, we'll work something out, it would be great to bike it to the TT!
ireland is quite small so its relatively easy to get around, cork is about a 3 hour drive from dublin!
