Almost Done!
01/22/13 11:55 AM

It took a while but by the end of this year I should see the light...

Before

After

Got the grills painted and have gotta say I'm glad the new models come with glossy grills. It compliments the line of the bike better and give it more of a shark look.

All I need now is:
A set of Velocity Stacks (Where you be Romans)
An ECU Reflash (speed limiter off, 300-500 RPM raise)
BST Wheels

Other things like rotors will get upgraded as needed, I'm leaning towards Braking right now. There is also the possibility of Brembo Monobloc Calipers but that's a big IF.

Drag... your bike looks good! I'm thinking just to keep my 09 and do the same type of upgrades instead of moving to the 14R; plus I like the look of the early gens.....

Very tasty, wonder how it look if you drilled a series of holes in the heel guards.I intend to cut out the solid parts on the vortex heel guards and have the rear sets powder coated black

Nice. Why not ditch the mirrors for a cheap bar end mirror(s)? Also switch the bar ends to something light. Sure looks nice though. Love that rear shock adjuster.

...and loose the belly pan and frame some day when you get tired of that heavy old thing.

Thanks .
The only thing better than a new bike is a paid bike in my opinion. I was lucky to have a small amount to finance and was able to get some mods done. The 14R is a better MC but I'm not ready financially or "emotionally" to undertake another 14 project. TC and more power is always nice but I have never felt like I needed more power or TC in the corners. Maybe when my riding improves. Also just the weight savings and the suspensions make you feel like you got a new bike!
I like both looks. Early and later generation but the first generations have a timeless, classic look to them. It's like comparing a Roll Royce Phantom V against a 2012 Roll Royce Ghost.

I wish I had your Ohlins stuff and you had a feather up your ass. We'd both be tickled (just jealous, is all)

LOL None taken Danno. Well if I was able to afford it, there is no way you can't.

man, you gotta get the black smoked turn and tail lights. That would really finish her off

I actually, have been thinking about it. I'm going to knock the last performance mods and if I'm not bankrupt, I will consider it.

Very tasty, wonder how it look if you drilled a series of holes in the heel guards.I intend to cut out the solid parts on the vortex heel guards and have the rear sets powder coated black

Thanks. That sounds like a great idea. I wish I could see a pic of it. I got a deal on those rearsets but they are expensive and there is no undo button for that mod. I'll look around and see if I can find something similar. Also Gilles released their titanium/golf finish but I'm not sure if they make one for the 14.

Love the mirrors, they actually work on this bike and since I got rear ended before I'm paranoid about watching my 6.
LOL What's the weight on belly pan and frame? I know you got that number somewhere!

Good looking 14! The only thing Kawi messed up is with the UPS brown wheels and fork legs IMHO.

How about something like this instead of a set of BST wheels for the 14

Belly pan, steel bracket and fasteners was maybe 1.5 to 2 lbs as I recall, gives the bike a wasp waist look.

Ditto, the 14R has not grown on me, I prefer the first gen look, it was little shocking at first with the George Foremans but the look has mellowed with age like the Gen 1 Hayabusa.

I'm with Drag, the gen 1 has all the power I can use as I'm a cornering guy, suspenders are way too soft though, especially the front forks.

of course I do. Frame and belly fairing 1 lb, 4.2 oz

but if you want to double that weight reduction...

and replace with these

one bar end mirror is really just fine. Two for balanced look, if you go for that.

Nicely done Drag

Thanks Green, is that 14R on its way yet? Read somewhere you weren't going with white after all?

do it

Mass got a point, I'm really going to consider a cheap tricked out track bike but unless the first generation ZX-10 have different ergos, I'll probably get a CBR, the bike suits me better. The 10R (at least the new one) put to much stress on my wrist and make me feel like it's about to buck me off. The only thing is that I bought my first and only car with 70k on it 7 years ago and still drive it, bought the 14 with 3k miles so I feel like I owe myself something brand new BUT it'll come down to the goodies I get with the bike and the few last mods I'm doing to the 14.

Lookin' good DK! Hope you get'er finished off soon!

Thanks. Did your boss approve you leave yet? You wanna make it here before it gets too hot, plus you gotta a MOTOGP race to go to lol

The only thing is that I bought my first and only car with 70k on it 7 years ago and still drive it, bought the 14 with 3k miles so I feel like I owe myself something brand new

I love it! Buy an old car and get a few cool new bikes!!! That's perfectly logical thinking AFAIC! Phooey on priorities for a change! I'm keeping my 96K miles Corolla as long as it will move.

But for a track bike, I really would not want to ride on a new one because the chance of crashing is so much greater the way you ride on a track. A new bike might be faster but I would be afraid to to push it as fast I could, especially all blinged out and having new mods.

drag, don't tell the wife this but I am nearly certain you have a literbike in your future and then a 600-750 track bike soon after, used modded, crashed but still running great. I would get used the old cage you're driving if I were you. when you have kids, that will be the excuse to get a new car. For now, I'd say you must be almost out of bargaining power.

That's the idea. My Camry has got well over 100k and is still going strong her Mercury Sable (same year as mine) is about done and we're thinking Highlander or Altima for her and the kids (2 max). I'm ok with my old Camry as long as I got toys and she's ok with that too. You're right about the new shiny bike at the track, also I would hate to be the slow guy on the S1000RR but the final decision will be made after I find out how often I will be able to go the track, how much street riding I'm going to do, how flexible is my new job etc. I don't think, I'll save money either way. Actually buying a cheap track bike will be more expensive in the long run: I will ride harder, crash more often and do more track days. The good thing: I won't have a monthly payment to make on top of that.

LOL I need to take a pic on a 600 and post it. I have long legs lol
