ECU Guhl Flash
04/04/13 3:28 PM

Has anyone who has had Brock/Guhl reflash their ECU's seen any significant differences in the way their 14r's perform over stock configuration before flashing?

Smoother...?? Mine has always seemed to buck as I slow down for a traffic light, and have to clutch sooner to make it go away than with other bikes not as powerful a motor.

Is the cost of the flash worth the money?

I have it. I only put on a few miles since I installed it due to weather but will be put more on Saturday. I can say that the power really comes on a lot stronger and faster. As far as smoothness it feels smooth... But pissed off :-)

In all honesty I never thought it felt choppy to begin with....and if you do get the ECU take it easy until you get the feel. It really really uncorks the 14 in an amazing way

I don't know the difference between Brock/Guhl flash but I got mine done by Ivan. Mine runs smoother, faster, cooler by 25 degrees and just Ridiculously fast!

I don't know if mine runs cooler yet or not. I got to ride very little the day I put it in and it was already pretty cols out that day. If I get my headers and pipes on soon enough tomorrow I will ride more and let you know what I see

It's funny to hear some of the ZX owners saying that the this bike runs a little hot....you guys need to ride some of the V Twin sport-bikes to see what running hot is all about.
Back to the OP, Its worth every penny to have the ECU re-flashed IMO. I had Ivan do the re flash, also got the full akra exhaust and PC5. It's really woken up the bike, instant throttle control and excellent Manners not to mention cooler temp lol..

Compared to my busa, it runs a little hot,but it is also putting out about 40 more horses ! (my busa was a Gen 1)

So, does brocks (guhl) AND Ivans reflash make it run that much cooler, or just Ivans? I have heard Ivan has his own special programming, as oppossed to Guhls

I'm sure that Ivan's Re-flash and PC5 map is different from Guhls...I've trusted Ivan for years with my bikes, hes been a very straight shooter and has always delivered on his products, that's why he continues to get my business.
Give him a call and you'll see what i mean.

One week to the day after shipping to Brock, bot my "Drag" Re-Flash back from Guhl, only thing I can say is it feels like the Space Shuttle on Steroids! Wow...the smooth, hard acceleration must be felt to be appreciated!

Now it is finally tweaked as much as possible in stock street configuration. Well worth the money.

So what you're saying is a reflash will liberate lots more power and cut running temps by 25 deg? Sorry but I just don't buy that. More power = more heat. I never have a prob with running temps on the OE setup anyway. JMO

So what you're saying is a reflash will liberate lots more power

Under hard launch this bike goes into what they are calling safety mode. When this happens secondary throttle plates partially close, cutting power saving you from yourself(so is the claim). After Flash this will no longer happen. Giving you back up to 27 hp. So lots is a good way to describe.

cut running temps by 25 deg?

My 2007 ran cooler with I'vans set up. We had no exact #'s just bars in the LCD display. But the bike did run cooler, how much exactly I can't tell but it was noticeable.

Sorry but I just don't buy that

All up to the individual.

This was how I ran I'vans set up before. Now all can be done in side the ECU with the mod.

It would be interesting to see the results of back-to-back dyno and drag runs with the same machine on the same day, with and without the reflash and PC. When you fatten up the fueling, the richer misture can help it run a little cooler, but when you advance the timing, you produce more heat. Maybe you guys noticing the cooler temps are just going faster and getting more air through the radiator.

There is information overload for me on these flashes. I paid for the "Shnitz" flash and was ready to send in my module until I read of the dreaded A3 code, untested flashes being sent back and possible error masking. So I cancelled the order. Then I was going to go with Ivan, then I read about how Ivan sends things to Don Guhl but Ivan is still the real deal. Then came the "Romans" at this point It looked as though everybody had their plus and minuses........I pulled the ECU and sent it to............to.........a name that everybody knows and loves.....
.............to....................Don Guhl. I spoke with him and the flash is $375 + what it cost me to ship it to him with insurance ($27). I should get it back next week. I had a PCV with an auto tune all lined up but Don said "Why bother, keep it simple I will flash the AFR for your set up and it will be so close you would not be able to tell the difference with the PCV installed. Save the money" Okay then, I cancelled the order for the PCV and auto tune.........My Z bike was awesome to start out with, I think I am just fixing things that wern't broke at this point.

I actually just switched from the Schnitz flash to Guhl. With the Schnitz flash my bike actually went slower at the track. I actually interested to see if it makes more power with the Guhl flash over shcnitz. It will be a little bit before we put it on the dyno, but I will hopefully be at the track next weekend so I will see what happens.

Since when does Guhl not try to sell you a PCV ? and since when does he say he can get the
AFR so good that you wouldn't need a PCV ? the first thing Guhl did was try to sell me a
PCV, and most other too, CBLAST was the only one that didnt, and Im sorry I didnt have Cblast
before I paid $375 for Guhl's, because Cblasts was much better .... IMHO ....

I can't prove either way, but my bike serioulsy went 128.5mph at the 8th mile yesterday with the guhl flash. mph in the 1/4 is not quite what I thought it should be but i'm definitely happy with it.

I have all my own software and hardware... I don't use anyone to flash any ecus for the last 2 years.
It's all described in detail here:

(I did use Guhl for a few months in the very beginning)

Ther is NO way Ivan could send ECU out for reflash!!! Sent my ECU to Ivan, two days later he called me to ask what I was looking for in the way of performance. After I explained my needs Ivan reflashed my ECU WHILE I was on the phone with him. Ivan also loaded mapping in to a PCV and then sent both back to me, received them in three days!

I'm MORE than happy with what I received from Ivan!!! Motor is smoother, runs cooler, NO fuel cut-out on closed throttle and I'm getting better fuel mileage (not that I cared about that)!!!

Have not had my bike on a dyno, probably won't, can't imagine how it could run ANY better without making significant mechanical changes. First rate job in my opinion and I've been building and riding high performance bikes for almost 50 years!
