MTC drop-in pistons are junk
03/16/10 1:14 PM

i purchased a set ran 10 passes @7lbs of boost .. motor started smoking like van Ryan's express .. pulled the pistons .. rings were stuck... yes ring('S) LIKE ALL OF THEM .. Called MTC .. Sent pistons to MTC ..got a call today .. MTC said the pistons warped and distorted and it was my fault for putting NOZ flat top pistons in a 7lb boost turbo motor .. i told him for 2 years i ran stock piston with up to 14lbs of boost .. Cliff then told me stock pistons have a better top ring land ..and that's why the stockers lasted ..Well if them MTC pistons can't with stand 270hp ..then whats going to happen when somebody sprays a 140 shot of NOZ .. oh and don't let me forget when i was ordering my pistons for a turbo bike ..MTC recommended these pistons along with the 2mm shorter turbo pistons .. and when i got the pistons they sent the wrong wrist pins ..

my dealing with MTC is over never again..

and you guys are pissed over 50.00 that jeffo took ..

i got screwed out of 700.00 plus 200.00 to coat these piece of shitt pistons

Ask for a refund, or a new set and just resell em to someone.

1Bad has a point. Kawasaki Heavy Industries puts a ton of yen into R&D and thats why for the last 15 years their bikes have been bulletproof for the most part.

Uncrate a ZX-10 or ZX-14, put the correct fluids in it, start it and let the oil circulate fully, then take it out and ride it like you stole it. No problem.

So when you get the urge to put an aftermarket air filter on it, consider that urge. Are you in such a hurry to part with your money for absolutely no discernable change on the street ? Heck, half the exhaust systems you put on don't make yours faster than mine. Yet set you back hundreds of dollars, and damage the eardrums of everyone around.

Like 1Bad knows, it costs 1,000's of $ to do better than Kawasaki R&D already did. And if you buy the wrong thing, you waste a lot of money.

they won't admit it their pistons fault .and its cheaper for them to blame me . and when you buy from and aftermarket place 1 of the 1st things you read on the package .. no refunds no returns .. thats like getting a warranty from an engine builder .. you get a warranty from a factory when you buy an engine.. but a engine builders warranty is over once you left the property ...

only advantage i see from an exhaust system is

1 lighter weight
2 ease of cleaning chain if it a 4 to 1 exhaust and exit on the brake side

3 and half the chance of burning your leg with a 4 to 1 exhaust

Aftermarket exhaust systems:

1. Move the power around but not necessarily increase it!

2. Create more noise!

3. Save weight!

4. Look a lot better!

I would say most aftermarket exhausts are purchased for reasons #2 and #4.

most after market exhausts are better looking than the zx14 Kwakeee cannons.
Wieght, and chain oil splattering issues also make after market pipes a good deal ..and if they are slightly louder..a plus as well. Stock cans make the bike sound like a sewing machine.

sorry to hear bout your piston failures 1bad. Seems you are the R&D department for those guys.

So when you get the urge to put an aftermarket air filter on it, consider that urge.
I hear you can take the filter out entirely and pick up about 1 HP.....for about 100 miles.... then you sand blast your rings into oblivion. No thanks!

Top ring groove to top of piston dome = .150" minimum is from memory, you looking for a strong piston not to collapse meeting a little detonation.

Where on earth do you get the info that aftermarket exhausts do not create hp. I'm not talking about slip-ons (which do still create a little hp in most cases), but nice full systems (I've personally owned ti-force, muzzy's, brocks, tsukigi on my zx14). You are crazy if you truly believe that full systems don't create more power everywhere. They don't have to deal with stringent emissions and noise.

edit: on another note, sorry to hear about the mtc's.... I was considering them as an option for some pistons.

4 exhausts on one bike and none worked out for you or are we a dealer with easy access to parts we can write this off?

we did a bunch of testing also at the track .. stock bike with mufflers removed from the header pipe ran same mph as any aftermarket pipe did .. just food for taught .

best bang for the buck was a 20 shot of noz 200.00 sprayed early

Glad to hear no damage was caused. Thanks for heads up, Bad.

You are crazy if you truly believe that full systems don't create more power everywhere.

+1 I have never had the opportunity to try a menagerie of systems to compare one against the other against stockers. I don't think that is necessary for me to notice that my Cannon caused a definite increase across the range. With all the power that is there stock, maybe 10-17 hp (whatever they claim --it always seems to be debatable) with a full system doesn't make or break you in the quarter mile. It DOES change the feel of the bike for sport riding on the street IMO. When I hit thew gas hard, the front tire is floating by the top of midrange. That's with me laying on the tank and it's a guaranty that will happen every time-- even without opening to the stop. The motor revs quicker and it feels like it spins up freely. With the stock system, I swear I could actually feel all that energy pent up at high rpm. That had it's own sort of thrill but I much prefer feeling that power is going out just as fast as it is being made.

I like trying different things. I see something for a good price and I buy it. I buy all of them used, and now that I think of it, I've actually had 7 different exhausts....

stock
tsukigi stainless oval
muzzy m14 prostock sidewinder
muzzy m10 (original header design)
brocks alien head
orient express (rebadged ti-force)
brocks sidewinder

Out of 7 under the seat, who would be the winner and what category?
Best Grunt?
Best Overall?
Best HP?
Best you pass on this pipe... One has to stand out more than the others all acting the same down the track, (cough-cough).
