7 bills to burn
01/26/10 12:23 AM

I am lucky to say i have 700 dollars to spend on my ride, but i can't make up my mind on what to get. I have been thinking about getting:
-undertail eliminator from moto-fab
-headlights 55w white lows/highs and running light led
-some random 5mm spike screws on the front of the bike
Other than those I really don't know what else to get I will have some money left.... I think. Thank for any suggestions you guys may have.

please do not ruin a perfectly good bike with "spike screws". you'll show up at your next ride looking like the lost member of Quite Riot. not a good look for you or your bike. but hey, do what ever makes you happy Mad Max.

The headlamps are the best things in the list. Add led running lights, and one of the newer strobed stoplight kits (fastest pulses, faster, fast, slow, solid on) and you will have possibly extended your riding life decades. Heh.

Tank protector if you don't have one yet - MagKnight is a nice one. I'd go with a PC for a stock bike. It makes a small improvement with a stock ZX-14 map from a good tuner and then you're set for when you switch to an after market system. How about a set of boots for you?

Brakes and tires? New riding gear and maybe a new helmet?
A steering damper? A Speedcell battery? Gearing change?
There are plenty of useful things you can put your money in,
look around at other bikes.

Is the bike stock or some mod's already?
Some of the cosmetic stuff is fairly cheap and gives a better look such as black button heads for all the bodywork. Lockhart/Phillips makes a kit. Smoked screen? Sliders. Powdercoat the heel guards and various other bolts/hardware/foot brake lever. Make yourself a custom cap (out of a PVC cap/$1 not counting paint) to go over the ugly steering nut or buy one. Fender eliminator kit such as Ted's. Area P slip ons (about 7 bills right there). Battery tender and quick plug in attachment. Radiator guard/screen...
I like the lighting suggestion you had.

Like they say, a picture says it all. I've been riding home at night (I dislike riding at night in my old age) and with stock lamps, I don't see the road like the pictures, above.

HIDs are more important than PowerCommanders, seats, bodywork, but not more important than good boots and riding clothes.

Ok, MSF-speak on, you may want to quit reading. :)

Ride in street (or worse, beach) clothes and get knocked off by a cage that isn't paying attention, and the ER will spend 2 hours picking glass and gravel out of your slide burns without anything to numb the pain. I've seen it a few times, at an Army hospital, no fun.

But I went down at 60mph once in an uphill 90 degree turn in the mountains and low sided and slid up the road at about 40mph and the only thing that got burned was my helmet and leathers. The bike, a beautiful, highly modded ZX11, was beyond totaled. Magnesium wheels, closed-loop fuel injection, lots of titanium in the engine, about $22k of mods, destroyed. Had I been riding in street clothes, I would not have been back at work the next day. I'm worth more than $22k.

Unless you asked my wife at the time. LOL.

Nicely said I don't think I want to do that now.....I didnt think of it like that the only reason i thought of the screws is cause I want to try and individualize her by making her different, but not "Quite Riot" different i will go a different route.lol thanks.

AWDTurbo4,

The smaller lights u have, those seem more blueish that the rest, what specs do those lights have? Me like!

Also, if i take those lights, is the Turning signal still easy to see, or was there no turning signal at the lights,
and just at the sides? I dont quite remember! :P

Thx

oppsss sorry it took me some time to reply.

"Matsuke": the corners are 194 white LED's I got from ebay. Cant remember the seller but they are very bright!
I replaced them with the same bulbs but they are amber color now.

these are the white 1's

amber bulbs

"DrHardin": they are 35W-6000k also from ebay.
at first I ordered the kit with 4300k bulbs just like my car has from the factory.
I like the 4300 on my car cause they look white, (no yellow/no blue)
But when I installed the 4300 bulbs on the bike they look too yellow for my taste.
6000k looks perfect IMO ;)

this is the kit.
I have ordered 3 of these kits and so far no issues at all.
They where on my old FZ1 for about 4 years, and about 2 years on the ZX.

I think there are a few members here running 55w HID's

I dont know if its a huge difference from 35w, but these a very bright.

IMO... I don't need anything brighter than this and 95% of the time I ride at night. (very dark roads)
