Oddball Discovery!!!
03/31/13 7:29 AM

I just realized the best way to increase performance on my bike. It is relatively cheap and requires limited mods. After removing the stock exhaust, the next best speed enhancement I could give my bike is to shed 30LBS from my 6'3 230 lbs/frame. Though intended as a joke, it is my goal to lighten up, I wonder if it will free some vortex speed from my ZX (I doubt it)!

Hey Marcell, you joke but rider weight does make a difference.

I'm 6'4 was 220. Dropped about 25 lbs. All I did was cut out all fast food (well not completely) Your bike will notice a difference but more importantly your body will thank you for it.

Good luck with the trimming!

Hi Dave, though I joke, I am planning on shedding 30lbs! Dude does this mean your 6'4 and 195lbs. Thats racer weight, mad respect on that. I used to be 285lbs after heart surgery in 2011. I dropped down to 230lbs cutting out sugar, caffine, junk food, and alcohol. It was tough, but when I hit 230 I aquired my ZX and it was worth it.

That's awesome , man! You've come so far already, those last few pounds take a bit longer to shed....more like you really need to make that diet a way of life to trim down to the point that you will walk around shirtless in the summer.. Go for it though!!

I need to loose 20 lbs of winter fat and I know I can do it in 2 weeks if I have the proper motivation. From past experience, I know the feel of the bike's handling and the acceleration is not improved noticeably. You would see the diff in a few less pounds or a few more hp make if you had side x side vid of you racing another bike. An extra .2 seconds in the quarter mile = +20 feet in a race. I doubt if you would feel that unless you could drop the weight instantly. ....but do it for YOU!

Thanks boys (Rook and Somefun), I am on the plan. Rook how you master a 20 lbs loss in two weeks is incredible. Wish I could do that. I am shooting for 200lbs thats -30lbs by June.
Weird thing also Rook, I look pretty good shirtless, I carry it in my legs and caboose!

I'm 6'5 and yoyo between 210-235lbs depending of my motivation and what I'm trying to achieve in the gym. At 210 I don't notice much in term of acceleration but I can tell the bike has more personality, it is more prone to wheelie etc.

That's an achievement in itself! Congrats! If you've managed to shed that much off I have no doubt you can do 30lbs more. You got a ZX14R for your 230lbs achievement, what are you getting when you reach 200lbs?

Hey Dave, thanks for the KUDOS! Be honest, losing the weight so I can feel more comfortable on the bike will be a huge plus. I am still sucking in stuff to fit, and the stress off the back will be a welcomed reward. After heart surgery I was on a whole wack of beta blockers that slowed my heart rate and with it my metabolic rate. I shot up from 250 to 285. Taking it off was work, dude, I still have dreams of a heap of fries and a tall coke! The King was my "crowning achievement" I am looking for an Olhins stearing damper, got my eye on a sexy one from Brocks performance. Maybe when I hit 2k, I will splurg and get one...Which King do you ride, and do you have your eyes set on a gift for yourself this year?

Keep at it and all those tight fitting close will soon fit perfect!

My 09 is Green like yours. (you know, the fastest colour lol) In the off season I spend a lot of time online buying odds and ends for the bike lol helps pass the time. This year I ordered a whole whack of stuff for the bike. Main items are a custom green leather seat cover that I installed today and Jardine RT-5 Stainless exhausts that will be replacing my 4 year old Two Brothers exhaust. I love the Two Brothers, the sound is heavenly! But I got such a deal on the Jardine's I just couldn't pass them up. I'm eager to see what they sound like compared to the TB's. I'll probably do a comparison vid when I make the switch.

I'm thinking a GTA meet and greet in the next few weeks so we can ogle each others rides lol

Yes, a few weeks, for a meet up would be great. Dude send a pick of your ride my way, love to check out the new cans. I'm sure the Jardines will sound sweet too. If they are the ones I am thinking of, they sure look nice on the ZX. I am in love with Yosh cans, got a dual set on mine. I am in heaven with the sound, my neighbours do not enjoy them though...but alas, they are a safety item, right? Other motorists hear us coming, we get to live a little longer...
As for the vid, send me a link when you get those cans set up. Once my cans die out, I fantasize about a full system from Brock, but that will need to wait for the next lottery win.
Alright man, enjoy, if you have a holiday, long weekend Monday.
Wolf - out

Dave, Woowowwee, that's a beautiful machine. Love the colour matched lowers. Sweet, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I love the 05- 11 front light cluster, with the seperated round lights. Just makes the bike look mean. The new 2012 r fronts are cool, but they hold a dim candle to the old set up. Nice ride dude!

Peace!

Funny, I had the whole diabetes scare hit me in October too. I worked really hard to try to control it without meds, and thus far have been successful. I went from 235 down to current weight of 175 in about 4 months. Excercise every night with weights and watching what I eat helped me do it. Been about 6 months now and haven't put a stitch of weight back on. So sad that it usually takes us some sort of health scare to get us focused and on the right path to healthiness. Stay focused and you will get there wolf... no problem at all. I'm down for the meet and greet too. Always enjoy checking out other rides.. especially people who look after them like I do. In fact that is a pet peeve of mine to see someone have no care for their ride. Case in point my brother in law who got his used SV650 two years ago and to this day has not cleaned it once. The only little clean it got one day was when I was installing a gear indicator on it for him - I felt sorry for the bike, so i wiped it down abit.

I think somewhere I read that every 7 lbs equals 1 hp? So, lose 70 lbs and gain 10 hp!!! Whoo hoo!

ZX evey bike I had/have owned had/has been spotless (I mean show room condition), PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP MAN. That said, have not cleaned my ZX the way I want. Knee surgery is preventing it right now, the week before I put my back out and one of my disk buldges hit my spinal nerve. I am just waiting, (patiently) so I can clean my baby... It is driving me nuts to know there is dust and road dirt from my last ride, before surgery, and it is still there...I am not OCD, but, I am obsessed!

Maddevil, thanks for the stat, that gives me a target to shoot for. 30 lbs my math is 4.2 horses!
Sweet!

Dude about the health scare, I hear you! Our mortality hits us in the face when healthwise something goes wrong. Everyone in my family has diabetes except me, I mean everyone. Weird thing, I didn't smoke, drink, work a stressful job. Just loved to drink coke and devour greasy food. That old habit (fought to rid myself of it) cost me heart surgery and near heart attack. Shit!!! Can't even enjoy a treat and I am only 40. But like you said, working out and eating right is the way and as soon as I am off crutches, I am back in the gym.

Peace boyz

I am going to have bariatric surgery in late September of this year (it takes 6 months to get insurance approval). More specifically a Vertical Sleeve Gastrostomy, so by summer of 2014 I will be at least 150 pounds lighter.

This means my Concours 14 will gain a lot of horsepower, right? LOL.

I am insulin dependent, so that won't go away, but it will take less insulin to do the job by far.

And besides fitting on a more powerful C14 better, I will be able ride longer and feel better when I get off at the end of the day.

And the VA orthopedic surgeon will do both my knees when I lose 60 pounds, so by the time I get to summer 2014 I'll be good to go.

Privateer,
You can do it baby, I am a big supporter, can't wait till you're through all the procedures and surgeries. 2014 is close man, best of luck. Keep us posted.
I was in Markham today ZX kept an eye out for a red ZX lighting up the fast lane!
Shit ZX just remembered your in Mississauga, any way, if I see ZX red, I sure you'll be blazing it in the pass lane.

Next week thursday tentatively we should hookup for the lakeshore / leslie ride...
