best option for lowering the pegs
02/17/14 11:58 AM

just curious what anyone recommends for the 14r.. i se a bunch of threads for the 14 but i guess the exhaust makes alot of these kits for the 14 not fit the 14r? the corbin setup looks nice but not listed for the 14r.. anyone fit the knights design pegs on the 14r?

I think they say that because @ 2in drop, I think you'd be hitting the exhaust.....1" drop would be enough

I got these of ebay fairly cheap and the havr held up well over the last 10k miles. The pegs rotate 360 degrees and fit in stock locations.

I used Buell pegs since I already had them on my B-King. Shaved them down a little and drilled out the hole to fit, 5000kms so far and no issues.

I have custom brackets on my XX that lower the stock footpegs 3/4" down and 3/4" back. I would like to find the same thing for my 14, what's out there?

Don't want to go with aftermarket pegs...

i did the 1" lower pegs and 3/4" bar risers.. should make it a little more comfy of a ride. the corbin setup looks pretty nice especially when added with a lowering peg but not sure if it will fit the 14r.

I've got "Murphs Kits" 1.5in / 38mm lower pegs on the ZX14r. Very comfortable ride.
Designed for the C14, but also a perfect fit on the Big Ninja.
As I recall, they cost about $90.00US

corbin brackets work on the 14r.the heat shield on the right exhaust will need to be trimmed a little if your running the stock exhaust.

Werks, did you get the Murphs footpegs powdercoated? I don't see any black ones on their website.

I am leaning towards the Buell black ones at this point.

I hear too many bad thing about the Corbins, and I don't like doing business with Corbin anyway.

No, I plasti-dip'd them.

Here's a thread about the Buell pegs and Murphs pegs.

Here's the Murphs in plasti-dip and the original aluminum finish.

That is my question as well.

They look killer in black, not so much in the natural finish.

They hold up for a while, but eventually the plast-dip wears off the peg top (mostly the front edge). I re-sprayed the tops a couple of times, but later peeled all of it off except for the black in the recessed areas of the peg as seen below.

That 2 tone look is actually pretty nice.

I am still on the fence about which ones to go with, did those Murphs limit your cornering clearance at all?

The OEM pegs with feelers have about the same clearance as the 1.5" lower Murphs without feelers.
The link I posted earlier and also below shows the clearance difference.

Good link with good pics Werks!

I have the Buell pegs an they were cheap and easy to get at my local Harley dealer, and as for clearance my boot hits before the peg does, and my Buell pegs had removable screw-in type feelers (which I removed).

Removing the curb feelers was the first thing I did after getting the 14r home

I did look at that webpage with all the measurements, but was looking for riding impressions of dragging the pegs alot or not.

On my Blackbird, if I get into really tight stuff I will start to drag the pegs if I don't get off the seat enough. My buddy on his 1st gen 14 can go through the same corners at the same speed without moving off the seat at all with the stock footpegs. I am just curious how much it is affected on the 14 with the Murphs.

Might be a YMMV kind of deal...

How much fiddling around with the gear-shift and brake pedal has to be done to accommodate the Murphs pegs? In order to at least remain in a similar feel to stock when riding.

Move the shifter down 1-2 splines? Or is it more severe than that? I'm not sure that dropping the pegs 1.5" overall that the height of the shifter and brake pedal must also be dropped 1.5" to feel right. Because with a lower peg and higher bars your entire body is altered in position, your foot would naturally have a less steep angle...make sense?

Before

After

Installed

I dropped the gear shift 1 spline, approx 1 1/4", and dropped the brake lever about the same. Trimmed 1/4" off of the end of the shaft that threads in the brake lever and played with the spring that activates the brake light.

Weather is too shitty to test right now, but I feel that I am close. Just sitting on the bike I can feel the improvement in my knees.
