Lots of new tech out there, Would be nice to here that some of it was going to make it's way into a New Lighter 14 or 15 ?

Yes, Romans. But... it might only do it on a road race event.
Kawa is working to get back into World Superbike wins. They lured a good rider into green team, and he is testing the prototypes for them and says they are special and beyond anything he knows of. Big Bang ftw.

If BMW went and f'ed up the pecking order, I want to see them pay. Let all hell break loose.

Don't worry, BMW will not be on top long, I would say two years max. What they have done is poke a stick into a hornets nest, the Japs had gotten a bit complacent to be perfectly honest and BMW has awoken them from their lethargy. The Japanese do not like to play second fiddle and they will come back with a return salvo, maybe a broadside. Expect traction control on everything within two years and probably a lot more horsepower. To be honest, I hate to see the Japs get into an HP war with BMW. The BMW stomps all over the CBR Honda on the dyno charts, something like a 28 HP advantage but the Honda will still kick it's butt on the track on any give day. It's midrange that makes for quick laptimes, not inaccessible mega HP at a gazillion RPM.

I read something on the 2011 ZX10R "Big Bang" motor this weekend and it sounds like something I don't want in my garage. It has to have an electric motor to keep the engine running at idle due to the wide spacing of the big bang power pulses. Apparently flywheel effect is not enough to prevent kickback at low engine speeds. They're also introducing variable cam timing and duration with some newly patented technology. I would definitely wait a few years so they can work the bugs out on this one, I really think they've lost the plot. Oh yea, real traction control for 2011.

Wow that’s complicated I guess Kawasaki learned nothing from the epic failure of the new R1.

I'm not so sure that thing is going to have any prettier of a face than the old ZX-10 but if it's faster than the S1000, I guess that is the most important thing for now. I suppose they are calling it "the new ZX-10 Race Bike" because it is first being developed for competition. They will make it a street bike to sell to the public afterwards. Hope they can make a great race bike that also functions well on the street.

I can read it just fine, Romans. Sounds like they are letting the info leak. Good marketing. They know the public will need some hard evidence to grab attention away from the S1000 which is pretty much past the R&D stage at this point. I'm not so sure about that electric assist. Sounds like they are fighting against the laws of science with that. Sort of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I have a witness. I told a high school friend I wanted a bike that would pound like a train leaving the station as the steel wheels loose grip and spin down the 1320 with very few revolutions. Boom! Boom! Boom! we are done!
Electric motor shut off my fuel at idle? Can you imagine the mileage improvement? I thought the 14 was smooth. That 1000 is going to be a shocker! The way that valve train, the electrics, the motor, the crank all smooth out the linear on both lift and apply is a big jump.
And another thing... I'm leaving that ram system alone. I'll eat air cleaners next time. That 2010 had a sweet pitch of air suck. My vacuum gauge should ping on lift big time with the next bike. Right now, I have zip for ram and that gauge shows it. Yes, ram makes a difference you want performance, not clean cylinder walls. Make your ears ring you do not wear plugs you are on the pipe.
Kawi has my cash I bleed green ass I sit and wait for the big GEAR banger.

No, privvy, I meant way down the road. The 14 engine family or in-line 1-2-4-3 fire, will probably go obsolete with the advent of the electrics, cam designs and motor assist.
What kind of engine is winning pro stock? Rules may be rules, but thump-thump is a lot less rpm down the same foot squared.

Willidx4, cuts me deep. No hope ?
Yeah I hate it too but I "gotta keep it real" (as the young people say) the bike as not had on bit of real development in 5 years its no longer the fastest or even the most powerful bike which is the heart and soul of hyper bikes. The Busa has a world wide cult like following the zx14 well not so much. Maybe Kawasaki will slap on a zzr badge and relegate the zx14 into fast touring duty if we are lucky. Oh wait that’s were the Connie comes into play never mind.

Off the cuff: Could the alternator be "switched" to an electric motor mode to provide the auxiliary motorization at low engine RPM?

I know so little about that. I have never heard mention of an alternator ...isn't there some other similar device for modern bikes that maintains battery charge?? Stator, no?? In any case, I would find the helper motor a lot more appealing if it were already some part of the bike that now has been given an extra job. A starter motor that came into play at low speed would seem like a possibility but I bet it would need to be huge. You can be fighting the weight vs hp battle.

Speaking of new and improved, I saw a b/o '09 ZX-14 at a bike gathering the other night. It looked like they gave the seat cowl more room to eliminate vibes against the tail fairings it lays over. Anyone confirm this?
We would need some more significant updates than that considering the way BMW has turned the tide.

Hmmmm, if the litre bikes all come out 190 horse and much lighter our 14s will be looking old and fat.
How many of you guys will be jumping ship ? You know, 14 out, in with the 10.
I feel like a traitor but if nothing happens to to our beloved 14, off with her head.
10 parks in Garage in top spot.
14 gets Slammed and Garrett Turbo.......

Wild, the 14 Gods will be rolling over in there Graves. Makes sense tho. Sad day coming. I'm 6'2 238. The ten will be a bit tight for us big guys on the long hauls.

I'm really in no hurry to let go of my hyperbikes. I like the idea of a monster hp turbo busa for high speed runs and long trips.. I don't think any literbike is going to outperform there. People forget that straightline performance is as real as cornering and braking performance. I think our hyperbikes are always going to have an edge in top speed. It costs money, but you can add as much hp as you want. Stage 3 turbo--800 hp. WTF is anyone going to do with that?? You don't need to worry about anything accelerating faster than that (as long as you can maintain some traction).
Talking about this revolution in literbike performance is a lot of fun but I have to say, I have never been less excited to own the fastest bike than I am right now. Improvements are never going to stop. There is no big hurry to grab anything before it's gone. It will all still be there in a few years and always, there will be something better around the corner.
