days without riding
06/30/11 12:05 PM

So my wife and I are tagging along with our friends up to Traverse City to do some drinking and fishing and chit. I don't have a reason to bring the bike. We have to bring coolers and the dog and the wifey is sick so she won't ride her bike. I will be off the bike for four days. Four days! Why is it when vacation time comes around I can't wait to not have to do my POS job but I get depressed when I can't take a toy to play with when I'm gone. The VW buggy just won't work either. This sucks. We're gonna get home afterwards and the wife will go straight to the bedroom to pass out and I will go straight to the garage to check on my love. Man, four days without a refreshing ride. Four days of doing sub-80mph speeds. Four days of just sitting still. I'm gonna go stir-crazy!

Bummer, know how you feel. It's been 10 months now since I've been able to ride.

4 days is a pretty long dry spell. I know I don't like that--not even if it was raining and there was a big job to do on the bike.

Here's an idea: Remove all fairings and take with you for a though hand buff and wax. JK, hope you don't have them all packed.

That's cool that the wif doesn't mind you doing your own thing for a while after you spend some time with her.

Yeah, but look where you get to ride at. Is it true that there are only 5 corners in the whole state of Florida?

Not only that, but there isn't a hill in Florida high enough to have a hairpin or switchback in it. The roads are flat and straight.

They have a lot of swamp though, I slogged through some of it once upon a time.

Yip, I know how you feel, too. I have not ridden the ZX for a couple of months cause it is cold and lousy in Cape Town this time of year. I have ridden the "mothership" (ST 1300) a couple of times. It is a bit better in lousy weather with heated grips etc, but who stole the power? Why does nothing happen when I open her up? Stuff that nightmares are made of! I wanted to ride the ZX on Sunday, but did it pour with rain! Oh, well, maybe next weekend. I hope so.

How about track days w/out riding? Bike is not ready. Missed my second one which was scheduled today. 84 degrees and blue skies. I'm thinking about the cool folks I got to hang out with last time. I'm sure they are tearin' that place up......while I sit here.

Patience, my man. You'll get back out there soon.

I'm leaving tomorrow morning early for Miller. They have a Friday evening session on the East track and all day Saturday on the West track.

Should be fun! -bg

As of tomorrow (7/8/11) it will be a month since I last rode! All because of an idiot that didn't see me. I should be getting the bike out of the shop soon, but I still have at least a month to go until the doc releases me. My collarbone is still healing and the pain is still there. So, I wish it was only four days since I last rode! Oh, and vacation? I used all my vacation time after the accident sitting at home out of work...

Rip off a fast lap for me, BG.

Done! Gets a little better every time I go.

Got a gearbox problem, though. If I downshift too firmly from 3rd to 2nd, I go from 3rd to NEUTRAL. Holy crap at the end of the straightaway! (This is not the 14 I'm riding.)

Gotta get that fixed. -bg

LOL BG... but ya, its not fun.

Some of the guys who recently ran a 10R on the track really ripped it for not having quick-shifting standard. So even new tech sucks in some ways.

I ran my ancient 10R on the track a few times, but it bored me after I memorized the corners.

But back on subject. Think we were on the old forum when I did my first round of winter mods. Maybe not. But that spring I was like a month late getting her back on the road, and missed a couple good rides.

Ya, that sucks too.

Ha Edge, you'll love this... My 14 is sitting in the living room all cleaned up.. I haven't ridden it in two weeks, lol it looks so nice all clean and waxed up, I have failed miserably to move it back outside. :)

Took the V-Rod to work today instead. BORING.

I have almost the opposite problem. On one hand, I've been spoiled lately. I take my bike on the road most of the time for work. I've put 10,000 miles on her in the last four months. But it's not much fun just riding down four lane highways with 100 lbs of luggage. It's just not the same. And down here in south Ms where I've been, I haven't found a damned turn in week!, unless you count an occasional on ramp. I've kind of missed having my truck with me. Life is sometimes a bitch when you just have a bike with you. (lots of rain lately). But hey, enough complaing. At least I get to ride. A few months from now, I'll be crying because it's too cold to ride.

Damn, I never get to ride. When I have time off the wife either has a honey-do list, something planned or just "wants to spend time with me". Dont get me wrong, I love her and she is amazing, but it just feels like her and the weather have teamed up to destroy my chances of getting a ride longer than an hour. I was stoked all day to ride home from work and right when i get to my bike it starts hailing. WTF!?! And I'm with you BCVulcan-winter is closing in fast and pretty soon my baby will be parked for a couple months.

My sympathies to all of ya not being able to ride. I actually start jonesing after a week or so.

I recently created a new dilemma for myself, which one to ride. Bought a KLR while the '14 was waiting on a fork seal replacement. Got '14 out today, Oh damn. Damn near ripped my arms off leaving a stop sign. HAHA Need a switch to toggle my brain between KLR, and ZX modes.

..now i missed the third with bike going under wraps for heavy duty wrenching. Not so bad I guess. We had rain today. Prolly not enough to cancel the track event but enough to slow me down and definitely enough to make a 70 mile ride home on bald tires suck.

I'm back on the road again finally. 10 1/2 months from off to fixed, now it's 98-100 degrees every day, and I'm working 50 hour weeks in said heat, but I have managed to get out early on the last 2 Saturday mornings and hit some twisties for about 100 miles each time. Weather is saying highs of only upper 80's this Saturday (some chance of rain though, we'll see), so hopefully a longer ride will be possible.

over a month of not riding this is 10x worse than waiting through the winter to get to the riding season. Best weather I can imagine for riding. I like to wrench but I really miss riding my bike. I am out in the garage tonight and hear some hooligans screaming off in the distance. Very sad. I am going to go berzerk when I get this baby running again.
