Look Out, Hooligans!
10/08/13 1:32 PM

Not to chang e the subject much..........but take a look at this:

180 hp (at the crank?) 106 ft-lbs torque. Only 417 lbs!!

If only I had room in my garage and a wish to be single..........

OMG

Watch the mountain road drifting! ABS select to front tire only allows this behavior.

Awesome stable mate for the Big Ninja, methinks.

Never ridden a KTM but I've always liked the look of them.

As of last year they aren't available in the US. KTMs release video is rife with prime hooliganism.

Unfortunately its a twin.

Rife with Hooliganism????

I don't see it!? I ride the piss out of my 14r and I would destroy that rear tire and front wheel loft all day!!!
Not hooliganism, exile rating maybe, and fun. Hooliganism I don't think so?

Fcuuuuk!!! I sure do love me a naked bike! Kawi should make a naked 14 with the same ergos, no upright shit, and no stupid plastic shit like the z1000! Naked = pure blooded hooliganism!!! That's how I ride around my neighborhood. When I say I like my rear to slide some when I go around corners, that's exactly what I meant, though rarely to that extreme!

I must be getting old. Sharp lines on a bike looks out of place. Headlight sucks, the ktm ears are whothewhat? I'd fit the designers lines upside down and assbackwards and see if that helps? There's black/white = Now insert 3rd color. Whathefuk is that? I'd have to coat the frame with something else before I sit on it. That is far from hooligan. They were close and too bad, they blue it.

I buy engines and two wheels. The rest of those pens can rest, what with the paint and plastic? They can sit home next time. That's why the torque number sold me.

I frickin love ur asseesment Hub. It is your precision at clinicly seeing flaws that is sharp! That same clinical reasoning is WOT gives me a huge grin quite often actually. The fact that we both found our way to the R. After all these months riding her. After all the miles. After two unnecessary small paint scratches. After much TC interrupt. After lots of 'holy shit!', moments...
This bike is still by far the benchmark. Pivotal. Crux of the hinge type bike. Latest cycle world has an excellent article by KC. Either a bike can 'do it' right, or it can't. This bike does it 'righter' than any I have ridden.

C, hag's got it. The bike has two points. One is performance, the other is presentation. The duc has lines. The tail on the ape is classic for that year. The other tails were too cut in lines. This one blends both... Almost. But this bike sat because it was orange against black.

The TL is yeah, heavy and had the torque of its time. This ape has a linear torque, is more powerful, and lighter than the dated bike of course. So now the ape would be second in the smaller cc bracket, but if you want more torque, you bore it. If this kt is rated 108tq, the rr at 87tq? The superduke at?

I think this bike was just a test at the local level. Now it's coming west. Price wise? Torque wise rated here? Man, if these idiots blew the presentation, they might blow the torque's preset and have a bunch of sitters. Sure, you can have a shootout with some yam varago, a duc, and what else? No one is showing up with over 100 pounds torque.

Stay home [the rest of you] that are not even close to the bar you have to reach for, so par is even you go swinging balls over seat.

Smat, name the problems if any so far? The good, the bad, what needs addressing, things like that. Unless Suz is keeping quiet, it's going to be an interesting dealer show.

The KTM might be fun to ride (or maybe not, look at the ergo's) but. I agree with hub! they went overboard on the plastics, just to sharp of lines, I mean parts of it look good, real good, but other parts, meh ...

Still I can't lie, would still like to saddle one, might be hard to get used to the v twin power band, but I think. I could manage .....

Still don't see any wild hooliganism. To me burning circles, popping wheelies and burnouts is just part and parcel of riding. I have always dug the KTM's. If I want to dial back on power I may look at one when I am 60. Today I scraped a footpeg on my stretched 14 r.
Whot!!!

Not to change the subject again but since we are talking torque "monster" performance.

For short trips or portage and then rally rides upon arrival; this is what I would really like in my collection:

Smell the Ozone

Nothing can hang with the motor; its performance is what all the last century of gasoline engine development has been all about: low rpm endless torque off the line or out of the hole and linear seamless power development to top rpm.

But, currently, although this one would suit me just fine; the Obama admin. 2500 incentive doesn't quite do enough to reduce the 72,000 dollar price tag on the RS!

Charge!
