From Rook
lytnin, is it difficult for you to do your own work on the BMW without BMW specific tools?

I have a 2009 K1300GT and all I have done is change oil in the motor and rear end. If I ask the beemer mechanics how to do something they tell me if I can do it or if I have to bring it in. When the plastic comes off it there is not enuf for a fart to blow around in there. It is packed.

I thought the 14 was crowded under the platic but the beemer makes the 14 look like an old air cooled 1000 in room.

Everytime something new comes out the naysayers predict the doom and gloom on that ride. Same thing was said when the KZ900 came out with DOHC back in 1973. Same gloom was said when the 1999 Busa came out or the 1st year Goldwing. The list goes on.
Don't count the beemer out yet.

Been thinking about trading in the 14 and 2 ZRX's for a K1300S

"You're not serious. No way. You have to get yourself a second hobby to clear your mind. Wait until the the bikes out a year or two. See if it's all that they are saying it is. See if the Japanese make something better. Live in the past a little bit or you are going to go broke.

Throw a glass of ice water down your back. You got in on the deals at the right time and you got the hottest bike. Don't worry about that new bimmer with the crazy headlights for a while. Looks a lot like a ZX-10 if you ask me.

The BMW S1000rr is going for $13,000 here for a plain bike, no options. Trade in the CBR and the ZX-10 and you probably got it. Wait several months and do some reading before you consider that. Also consider that in a year there might be a whole new ZX-10. You're better off just living in the world of being a rock star on your mighty 08 zx-10. You're not getting passed are you?

See, now you have me thinking back and forth again. Yesnoyes no no yes no yes.

Don't do it.

yet

I don't think"

The worlds eyes are on this bike right now. I for one am praying they do well. I'm just not used to reading about BMW. They have never made anything that I have even been remotely interested in. Till now. If they are claiming they have a contender you better believe they will be backing this bike with a huge wallet in the RD department. So let see. The bar is now raised. All good for us. Japanese will follow suit and will not let this NEW threat go unanswered. Lets face it they have till 2011 to make changes. What would you do?

That also means we might as well wait 'til 2011 before deciding whether or not to buy the BMW. I say wait and find out what track riders tell us. It may end up that the jap bikes don't change much if the Beemer ends up producing mediocre results.

After all is said and done, i don't know if having the most power will make me any faster anyway. At my level of experience, price is probably a much biggwer factor than peak hp. What everyone can use is streetable power and definitely, good handling. If the S1000 has that, it might well be a great bike to buy new and hang onto for a long time.

I have a feeling resale on Beemers would be tough. If they don't build a strong racing image in the next couple years, BMW will only appeal to a select crowd. Everyone wants a Jap bike.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaa----- I want one and I have a feeling now is the best time to get a new bike for several reasons. It'll happen one day. It's not gonna be in the next few weeks, I don't think.

Spend Rook Spend! I know it's not fashionable right now to be livin life large but if you got the cash and want a 10, nows as good a time as ever to buy one. I wouldn't recommend anyone buy anything on credit though...cash only!

The Beemer is so sexy though, but I would never buy the 1st edition of any bike let them work out the bugs first they all have bugs...

Yep, the RSV4s had a bunch of conrod failures .....right in front of the world press! They blamed it on an outside vendor boring the lower end hole a few thou off center but it makes you wonder who's doing their QC inspections? Also, the European models were supposedly laying down 165 rear wheel hp. The one Cycle World recently tested ....146. They tested a second at 150. Not bad but not nearly what all the pre-release hype was saying. When the smoke settles it may turn out the Beemer is a few HP up on the ZX-10r but at 14,000 rpm. The Beemer will have real world faults, it and the RSV4 will prolly win some shootouts, track portion anyway but most of us ride the streets too. How will they fare on potholed American roads, that is the bigger question.
