The Internet knows everything. I uploaded the image at TinEye.com and found her here. -bg
I went to that site, please do not click on the Jack Nicholson link, seeing that crusty old perv in action made me want to hurl!

A colleague of mine was interested in buying a new Ducati 1198S earlier this year. When he went for a test ride, I went along and tried it as well. My impressions were:
Good
1. The bike is drop-dead gorgeous.
2. The engine is strong and pulls hard in the mid-range compared to other 1000 cc bikes I have ridden.
3. Handling is sharp and secure.
4. The brakes are fantastic.
Bad
1. Very expensive - almost double the price of a Jap 1000 cc/ZX-14/Busa in Australia. Maintenance costs are also likely to be much higher than the other bikes mentioned.
2. It is the most uncomfortable bike that I have ever ridden (except maybe for a cruiser after some time in the saddle). Seating position is awkward. Handlebars pinched my hands against the bodywork when I did a u-turn.
3. Very hot. I rode it on a hot summers day, and it slow-cooked me.
4. Vibrates a LOT.
5. Although the engine is strong, it will still be no match for my 176 rwhp ZX-14 in a straight line.
6. Most useless mirrors evers. All I could see, was a blurry vision of my elbows.
7. Difficult to ride; not intuitive like, for example, a CBR1000RR.
All that said, if I were to win the lottery, first thing I would do is to go and buy one. Yes, it is temperamental, quirky and expensive to run, but it just has more character than all other superbikes put together. It also ages well. A 10 year old Ducati sportsbike is still an object of desire; the same cannot be said for most other bikes. It does not matter if another bike performs better on a dyno, is capable of better lap times or has a higher top speed. As a Ducati owner would say: "Sure, but it's no Ducati".

FELL in luv with a DARMA900!! good now deceased mate bought her let me take her fer a ride in the hills,I WAS JUST an apprentice.that sound plus the way it was ballanced kept with me for many years! he ordered a chromemolloy rolling chassis from Salisbury UK with leading links forks just to suit the DARMA900 engine he raped it for the Castrol 24hr race, they were a bit more reliable without those belts

dont like em...... sure they look good and they handle well BUT they sound like a combine harvester.
If my ZX14 made that much racket I would turn it off straight away and have it towed to the mechanic.

Ducati's are works of art. If I wasn't married I swear I'd buy a new 1098S or ? and just park it in the den.
I could afford the initial cost but I've heard they're really expensive to keep up. Something like a grand for a valve adjustment? If not for that I'd love to get one as a third bike. Wonder if I'd ride it more than the 14?

I ride with a guy who rides a Ducati. It looks bad ass without a doubt. I hate to admit it but its better looking than my 14 for sure. It handles like its on rails and sounds awesome. It was double what I paid for a one year old 14 though. I am not sure it looks that much better than my 14. Also, he may ease ahead of me on the twisties but I will walk him like a dog when we hit a straight away.

You're right on the money in your assessment. When I test rode the 999 (canary yellow with vertical-situated lights), I had the same sentiments you did. Had I the money, would I buy one? HELLZ to the YEAH! It's not for anything more but track days and short weekend rides, or at least that's all I would use one for, but Holy MOLY are they sexy. There's just something about a Ducati... Ya'll do a youtube search for Mercury Mistress. Mmm Hmm, yep. lol
