Would be good to see what you think of the 023 on your bike jtemple.

I have a couple hundred miles on it. Roads aren't real twisty around here, so there's not a lot of crazy lean angle going on. So far, I like it just fine.

I commute 80 miles a day on a pretty straight stretch of I-80. I need something that'll take that sort of abuse, hence the plan for PR3s for my next tire change.

I spent the last 3 years riding around on dual sport knobbies, though, so YMMV. :)

No doubt they last, but that is the only good thing in my book. Don,t shoot the messenger, I,m only reporting what I felt. Apparently at lower temps and on lighter bikes the PR3s are tolerable, but for me they were a disaster. The front tyres small blocks cause the bike to wander at higher temps. Fact. As I said, even my pillion could feel the front wander. And I run 40-40 pressures on the road.

What sort of ambient temps do you guys ride in? Perhaps a lot cooler than 27C (80+F).

And if you haven,t tried them , try Dunlop Sportsmarts/ Q2s. Brilliant. Everything the PR#3 is not. Good life for a sports tyre, but obviously less than a PR3.
My next tyre will be a Pirelli Angel GT- getting good reviews and seem to hold up in warmer climates like Ozzieland. I,ll just keep the Dunlops for the K9 thou.

Whoo Hoo ! Found a guy with good reviews that said he will install, balance etc .. A set of Road 3's for $340 out the door ! That seems pretty good, at least in my area ! What do you guys think of the price ?

That seems pretty good, chapparal motosports (chapmoto.com) price is just a couple of cents cheaper, of course, that is w/out the mount and balance....LOL

A good healthy debate! Temps this summer here in TDOT have been mild to warm, Def not scorching. I will report back.

Bunyip,

Is it possible your R3's were a bad batch or some thing ? Not saying your lying or anything, but it gets pretty hot here in Cali, and guys seem to say they grip real good, handle great, no squirming etc .. Alot of them on 14R's and Busa's.
Here is a quote from a guy that runs them on his 10R, (was told that Q3's would only get about 3000-4000)

I used them on my 6r and got almost 15,000 miles from the rear tire.

The temps were i live in norther Cali.. modesto/stockton area easily average during the summer 90-105 Deg C. on any given day and cool to temps in the cooler months down to 35-45 deg c. also get a lot of fog and rain. I run my pressures 30-32f/32-36f as recomended by to diffrent suspension turnes and tire guys i deal with for track days. ...tried 40f/42r seams to ride too harsh, Also something you guys have to remember with tire pressure, the more you ride as the tire heats up the air pressure inside the tires will also raise a few LBS. So if you start out at say 42 psi once hot pressure may go up as high 46 psi or more.

I was out preying on a Vette and an R1. PR3's no slip or slide and I ate everything on two wheels and four. I entered and exited several ramps aggressively and weaved through traffic as if running moonshine! No slips or misbehavior. This fuckn tire is flawless. FLAWLESS!!!!

40 on the front seems high to me I only run 38 on the front with all my tires and no wander, I still think it might be suspension setup and maybe on the off hand a bad batch of tires or something.

PR 3's are NOT a track tire. Put the full recommended pressure in em and run them at 100+ degrees all day; no problems mate, I did it for days on end.

A tire low on air on hot roads will squirm, especially loaded two up!

PR3's do it all on the road and do it all well if your suspension is good and they have air in them; hot and dry, hot and wet, cold mornings in the fall as well, hard pavement, soft pavement and even unpaved CO high pass road construction/replacement mud, rock and clay (at a measured pace of course.)

High profile (rear) PP3's for track-like behavior and general hooliganism on selected public roadways or for "eating" fast prey on the corners/sweepers. But put some air in them as well; the recommendations are nearly correct in my experience. These tires are not gum rubber, melt em as you run em, expendable track day "especiales" after all.

Take it or leave it. PDQ!

So Pilot Pure track day warm conditions. Roads grippy warm cold, dry and wet hooliganism. So much can be said about how they last. Pure will eat your pocket book while roads will eat kms!
