With the right equipment they can detect the old models (without VG2 guard), but when your speed drops really fast, they know. I might risk the detector, if it's hidden really well, but never a jammer. Thus they can tell, and then you're in big trouble.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.

I did some research on radar detectors quite a while ago and one of the interesting points that a site mentioned is the fact that a lot of the radar detector companies also manufacture the radar guns for the police... who do you think is a better paying customer? The government/police or private citizens?

From what I read essentially older or poorly constructed radar detectors are the easiest to detect as when they convert the radar signal into another signal the unit can read the radar detector would leak this signal which would be picked up by the police.

As mentioned with laser jammers, you can set it to turn off after 7 to 10 seconds... but is it just me or is that a REALLY long time? I'd think 3 to 5 seconds would be more believably to the police and if its taking you 10 seconds to slow down to a legal speed you're probably getting a ticket 1 way or another.

If they can't catch you speeding due to the jammer (or detector) and its REALLY obvious you were speeding (ie, whipping past traffic), they could still pull you over just to make your life miserable. After market exhaust? ticket. No side reflectors? ticket. Smoked screen? ticket (yeah... its illegal to have a tinted front windscreen). No rear fender? ticket... etc

All that being said, I do toss around the idea of picking up a radar detector as it would have saved me 1, $78 ticket and its not illegal in Alberta. However I got the ticket cause I was being stupid and didn't follow my own rules:
-Don't do move than 20km/hr over the posted speed limit (try to stay within 10)
-Don't be the leader of the pack

I try to make sure there's at least 1 car WELL in front of me and that I don't stick out like a sore thumb...

yes would suck but all equipment violations. I don't think the insurance co would care about that. ...not that i would want to get ticketed for all the same stuff a month or two later but I would be thrilled to ride off without a speeding violation.

I think if you are really flying over 100, or speeding near to others on the road, there is a good chance they will stop you anyway. Think about it...cops stop motorists when they see unusual behavior. It doesn't necessarily have to be illegal as long as they can say there was something that appeared a safety risk to you or the public (i.e., high speed).

Upon eye contact with the law, Maverick fires afterburner and enters MAC 2 with his hair on fire. That's the deadliest but cheapest way to avoid a ticket. Perhaps another $1.50 to purchase a spring to flip up license plate! However this protocol is also highly illegal. I can't believe riding a motorcycle is still legal!

little off topic, but I noticed you have the bonneville box, does it effect yor gear indicator to make it read 6 all the time or will it still function properly?

Is the radar detector belong to a kind of jammer? Or anyone could the different working principle between radar detector and phone jammer?

I think i might need to make an investment. I got stopped for 98 in a 50. It's a good thing I knew the officer. She thought her gun was broke, caught me sorta launching it at a light. She said she couldn't read the numbers until it stopped at 98. Hahaha, ooops, sorry?

you totally got a buddy break. She was lying her off. She knew damn well you were flying.

Yse, if you have $$. I believe those jammers are a good investment for the kind of fast riding we do on the 14. If you are seen doing something wreckless or racing another vehical, I think they will still come after you but just doing 100-120mph, seems like they do not come after you without laser or radar evidence as long as you slow down as sioon as your jammer sounds the alram. I have not a single negative coment about jammers. They work. I have always felt cops would come after you on teh suspicion that you had a jammer if their gun jammed on just you and nobody else all day. Doesn't seem like that happens.

I would think it would be a bit difficult to unhook the laser/radar deal while you're trying to get stopped from a 'speeding' velocity. And get the thing tucked away in your pocket or whatever...I mean...by that time,he'd be behind you and watching wouldn't he?You'd need to be clutching down and all...so how ya gonna hide the unit? You get pulled off on the shoulder, before he gets to ya(if that's how ya play it that is)...he pulls up behind...you're feverishly stuffing 'something' into your jacket....IDK...sounds kinda iffy to me?You KNOW he's gonna ask.."what the heck are you doing?"...game over...unless ya lie...and that aint good...especially since he CAN search ya...then yer REALLY in the shit I would think?

how ya gonna hide the unit?

The unit itself is hidden within the nose fairing. ( I saw one on the lower fork clamps of a 14).

I guess you wear a bluetooth to listen for the audible alarm. If there is a visual alarm on the bikes instrument clustet, that be pretty hard to 'splain to mr popo. ...although I have never had one ask a single question about equipment....then agaion I don't have anything that looks like a lazer/radar detector on the bike.

Ahhh...okay...that makes sense.Didn't know they could be mounted around there anywhere.I'll say...in my case...80 is not out of line around here...85 and up...yeah...you risk gettin stopped.Since I got the Romes flash..I found that rippin on the straights is kinda not so important anymore...she runs awesome at 65/70ish,80.I kinda save the higher stuff now for the corners...I haven't seen a Leo make a u-turn going through a curve yet...or even trying.Pretty safe those curves. With my other 14R...I was always trying to push even on the straights...somehow...the flash has changed my riding habits...in a good way;)

Yup. I asked her how fast and she said 98. Because I honestly had no clue. I hit second and was gonna cruise it down, but i had to downshift and break when i saw her. She thanked me for stopping. Because she would have had no chance.

I won't turn this into one of those threads but the cop that got me did not thank me for shit and he had no chance either. I guess i think it is still a good idea to stop

unless you are absolutely sure you can get away. then run t like hell.

BTW, stay tuned for my latest video. No running from cops but lots of illegal FUN!!!

I might try one o them passport jobbies! I don't know. I wish I had better habits or could defend my behavior in some way. But I just tear ass off outta there. Usually I'm in tear ass mode when I stumble upon smoky. I just try not to look in the mirrors and stay focused. Too distracting all that shite back there. Couple five mins. Usually good to go. I freakin love the way TC mode 1 sounds intervening when gettin it in the rain, it's all DUH D D DDD, as ur WOT! Fuckin funnest bike ever.

Best Radar detector right now, is my throttle hand!
3 runs, I'm 3 and 0
I am wondering if this is going to assist me in anyway.

PS that chopper keeps hovering over my house!

So, I think I can help here.

The popo have "radar detector - detectors". This is an electronic device with the purpose of "detecting" the radar detectors on vehicles. They sniff for the RF, or IR, signals emitting from the radar detectors installed on the vehicle, and that's how they find them if they not seeing it visually (because it's hidden).

Some Radar detectors are pretty good at shielding their internal signals from "detector -detectors", others, not so much. This is where you get what you pay for...

From what I've read so far, it sound like owning / operating a radar detector is a fine, and confiscation, but not a criminal offense.

Now, there's another class of equipment for you: Jammers. *Radar* jammers are illegal everywhere, and they are criminal offense everywhere. This equipment will "jam" an RF emitter from clocking you.

There is also a newer device recently available, a Laser jammer. *Laser* jammers are not criminal in the US., but I dont know about Canada. They might be criminal there...

Laser jammers "jam" the non-eye-visible wavelength emitter type of speed gun. (I forget the exact wavelength).

Laser jammers emit back to the speed gun, so they're definitely detectable, if the popo have the laser detector -detector.

All these devices (radar and laser) are becoming moot, in my opinion. This is because of the proliferation of side and front rf and laser emitters on newer cars. The devices that actively detect lane departure, and braking distance, all operate in the same frequency bands. That means a bunch of false alarms.

This is also where you get what you pay for, low false alarm rates.

Scotty has an integrated system: A radar / laser detector, and laser jammer, and a really good one. Its about 1100.00 retail, last I looked, for the entire suite.

I like the latest Escort integrated system, but at $1400.00 installed, it's too much for me to justify.

Tho, from what I've read here, since these devices still real-world do work, Im mullin' it again.

Hope this helps,
Bob
