Another thing to mention, is that its NOT a good idea to chase the last few mm of "chicken strips" away. I know some guys who will make lighthearted fun of those of us with say, 1/4 to 1/3" of underused tire. And they ride at near track-like speeds in corners on the street - sometimes. A couple of them have also went off the road. Things are just too unpredictable to use up all your safety margin while riding on public roads.

One incident in particular, some guys were out riding twisty country roads; and the one had just been recoated with that tar and stone chip method. The problem was, the warning sign was halfway through the corner and my friend was already cooking through it. Needless to say, he slid across the lane and into the opposite ditch. Luckily it was mostly just a grass median leading into someones front yard. No one was hurt, and bike damage was almost nonexistent. But you never know. Could have been a vehicle coming the other way, and boom.

Keep it safe out there.

That's funny.. Mine are always wider on the right..
Are you left handed?

a conversation i have had before, im left handed and ususally have little or no strip on right hand side of my tires, i much much prefer righthanders,

ps, if your contact patch is ,lets say 1inch wide, when you get to the edge of the tire, you are infact still with an inch to go, its the leading egde of the contact patch thats putting the wear on the tire, it will go further...but i find feel gets very vague, and me no likey, but usually exhaust/peg/foot touches down first, depends the bike, situation

I would like more speed and confidence through the twisties but not sure how to go about it safely.

Go to the track on a nice hot day in mid summer. 28 psi or so. You won't believe what you can do.

Smooth is more important than leaning over.
Smooth entry and smooth exit build more speed.
Smooth throttle apply is part of entry/exit/stripes gone.
Smooth creates speed in more ways than you know.
Smooth is to keep thinking smooth lines and smooth throttle, where it is one routine you step over and step off.
Smooth means, what was the last thing I was thinking of, my thought process is now here. Where you in the moment the moment you step over? Then forget about stripes you stepping off; these are the baby steps first.

Who slid across the street first, the shitcan or the egg?

I can wear the rear side to side, but the front always has a little.......and that is after dragging the fairing....

Also, since she will touch down on the lower fairing at some point, what is the margin between 0 mm chicken strips and scraping hard parts? I imagine that is a very small margin.

My previous ride was a ZRX and it would never scrape hard parts and I could use my boot puck as a feeler, but now that the fairing is a lean issue I am completely not concerned about the chikkin strips. Not like I was much before, but this is different.

OMG!!! I'm spinning my tire down the expressway going in a straight line. No driving out of corners until the roads warm up, thank you very much!

I'm getting closer to removing my strips. Once I get my suspension worked out they will be gone. 80% of my 2k miles is all twisties.

I do ride within my limits. My last ride started roasting the tire. Was 100 degrees out and we're carving some tight twisties. Miles of 25-15 mph cornerd. Tire did get slippery. Trc was working hard.
But I'm the slowest on all my rides. This bike is a bitch in tight corners.

Yup. be careful guys. But - nice work, as well. I doubt I will ever get as aggressive as the pics that are posted.
I find that instead of having hard parts touch, I prefer to let the outer edge of my boot be the feeler. Yes, I understand that I should be up on the balls of my feet and that wont happen. Also, that I should be changing my body positioning to help with corner speed as well. But if I lean her over just so much, and I get a little touch from my boot, I am within my own personal safety margin. I know the bike will go more if needed in a pinch, say to adjust my line or dodge part of the road mid corner (potholes, dirt etc). Shiney side up!

Wow I can't imagine dragging hard parts. Never scraped peg feelers yet. To scrape pegs I'm assuming your dragging a knee. If that happens I know I'm pushing to hard on the streets.

"To scrape pegs I'm assuming your dragging a knee"

I've scraped my ZX14 pegs and my boots lots of times but haven't had my knee down. It's pretty easy to get a knee down on my Ducati, but not the ZX. I guess I just need to move my butt off the seat more, but it just hasn't seemed necessary yet. My Ducati is faster entering a turn and at the apex, but the ZX has so much power that it has a MUCH faster exit speed since you can charge so hard off of the apex.

The irony to that is that as you hang off the side more, you lean the bike less. I actually think that cleaning off the chicken strips on the street is probably going to happen more for people who don't hang off but still corner fast. They have no choice but to lean harder.

I feel like a have to lean off the bike to get thru tight twisties at any decent speed. No way am I gonna lean over that hard and not hang off the bike. That's probably why I haven't scraped hard parts.

I rode in a group ride recently, with a Harley rider in front of me ... and that guy literally would push the bike way down into a lean while keeping his torso almost perfectly vertical (side to side). Looked like he was terrified of turns. He was even keeping his head back away, like the turn itself was about to jump out and strike him! Heck, that's probably what it feels like on a Harley!
