I myself was involved in a major accident in '03. To be honest, I still think about it when I go through the intersection it happened at. It took me over a year, and the input from a friend to realize just how much I was affected. I swore i would never get back on a bike. Soon as I was walking again, I was at my uncle's house seeing if I could lift his Gold Wing off the kickstand. The desire to ride was so strong, I had to get back on a bike. Ended up causing me marriage, un-intentionally, but I have been riding as much as possible since.
I kind of skimmed all the other posts. Did read some, but some have already hit the nail on the head. If you have to ask, you probably already have the answer. YOU have to WANT to ride. If you don't, it's fine. Am sure your family and friends will be thrilled. I know mine would be ecstatic if I were to stop riding. My father was following me last night and saw the cagers at their best.
For me, riding was my therapy. It helped me recover physically, and emotionally. It sounds as though your desire to ride may not be as great. In the end, you are the only one that knows if it's time to get off for good. Lots of good ideas on here.
Major props for asking, and opening up. Not many people would. Good luck in deciding.
