I myself was involved in a major accident in '03. To be honest, I still think about it when I go through the intersection it happened at. It took me over a year, and the input from a friend to realize just how much I was affected. I swore i would never get back on a bike. Soon as I was walking again, I was at my uncle's house seeing if I could lift his Gold Wing off the kickstand. The desire to ride was so strong, I had to get back on a bike. Ended up causing me marriage, un-intentionally, but I have been riding as much as possible since.

I kind of skimmed all the other posts. Did read some, but some have already hit the nail on the head. If you have to ask, you probably already have the answer. YOU have to WANT to ride. If you don't, it's fine. Am sure your family and friends will be thrilled. I know mine would be ecstatic if I were to stop riding. My father was following me last night and saw the cagers at their best.

For me, riding was my therapy. It helped me recover physically, and emotionally. It sounds as though your desire to ride may not be as great. In the end, you are the only one that knows if it's time to get off for good. Lots of good ideas on here.

Major props for asking, and opening up. Not many people would. Good luck in deciding.

Ron

I'll get through this ordeal. I love to ride, and I'm not ready to give it up. The only way I'll get over my fear is to continue to RIDE. Similarly, if I had a fear of elevators, the only way to conquer the fear is to RIDE THE ELEVATOR. Someday I'll give up riding motorcycles but, I'll do it on my own terms. Once again, thank you guys for your thoughts and comments.

Somar41, I know the feeling. Lately while riding I have been waiting for something to happen, and it is nervewracking. Don't know why, but there it is. Maybe I think I have not been spending enough time on the bike cause it is winter here and the roads are wet etc. I would just spend more slow time in the saddle if I were you, but I hope you get through it and keep riding.

Ya...you're fine Somar..you'll ride again of course. And I've found, not just with riding, but with everything that I deem as a "new challenge" that there's a lot of anxiety associated with the first several, maybe more, tries,or actual doings of something.Like your apprehension Harley..you nailed it...sounds like you're uncomfortable with your bike's power combined with wet roads...wise to be cautious. Not that you don't like or enjoy your bike's power...but riding in the rain with a bike that can spin tires effortlessly,ya...I'm damn careful as well...and I get that similar feeling sometimes. When I do,I just wratchet it down some and pay extra attention to what's happening around me.I try NOT to ride in the rain....it is risky with these bikes. It's like riding at night. At first,it's kinda scarey...you know...out there ALONE.Anything happens...yer stuck...ALONE.Then the animal factor..."what if I hit somethin and wind up in a ditch somewhere in the middle of nowhere?".Ya...it takes some doing and getting comfortable with the "possibility" that something could happen. But USUALLY,NOTHING happens.I just try to drive extra alert, and that means normally going SLOWER(which is pretty cool on these babies!)It's a different world at 50mph!
