Heated grips are nice, heated jacket is even nicer.
I run both on all my bikes and if I had to choose one over the other, the jacket would win.
YMMV
It's the journey, NOT the destination!

...but I really need to get heated grips and waterproof gloves. My ride is over an hour, and I can barely feel my fingers when I get there :) I have heated grips on my VFR, so doing the same to the 14 this month.
I've been using handlebar mitts for over 20 years and find them indespensible for winter riding here in Colorado, with or without heated grips. In fact, I rarely use the Triumph's heated grips as the mitts are so warm.
Mitts allow the use of thin summer gloves year round for comfort. In addition to cold weather use, they are great in the rain. I keep a pair on the bike's year round.
The heavy duty pair on the Aprilia are "Quad Gear Classic" mitts and are a steal at less than $20.00US.

The lightweight pair are for three season use and especially for rain. This pair are over 20 years old.
My use of mitts dates back at least 40 years ... The kayaking "poagies" below for example... Brrr!

Are they hard to get in and out of on the fly?
It's very easy to get your hand out on the fly. With practice, it's fairly easy to get your hand back in on the fly.
You can sew in a plastic or wire loop to keep the hand openings from collapsing in the wind making it easier to get your hand back in, but I've never found this to be necessary.

What up, fellas?
For those of you who may want a little something different for day trips, this seat bag from Nelson Rigg (CL-1060) is a nice touch. Decent size for a few sport touring essentials but not too big. Doesn't require bungees. Has a rain cover that is attached to the inside of the bag. No need for a tank bag anymore. So far, I'm diggin' it.
Take care and keep it on two.

Got my Givi racks and modded them to add a top box. Did not need to drop the exhaust with the version of the racks/bags I selected
Got the centerstand on, going to get a stop that I salvaged off the stock ginormous cans welded on this week.
Lowered pegs added as well.
Going to get cblasted on Friday, and I should be good to go - got a quick jaunt to NE Oregon (where there are no speed limits) next week
Then a 5 dayer to Idaho and back through Oregon again, so glad to see Summer arrive.

I only have last year's June ride over Trail Ridge Road with much Snow on the sides of the road. It is a must do ride no matter where you live. Put it on your Bucket list. Colorado Dept. of Transportation tries to have it open by Memorial Day weekend.
Highest continuous paved road in North America June 2, 2013
I have a throttle lock on the Ninja and have a camera strapped around my neck for instant photos.
Park Service dugout the Visitor's center. June 2, 2013.

Come on out and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Colorado. This year bring your rain suit.

Just a couple more photos. I stitched 3 photos together (digital cameras are great) trying to capture Pikes Peak Road. One week before Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The road is paved to the parking lot. Parking lot is dirt/gravel. The parking has been expanded, meaning raised up, making more parking available.
The artificial height is 14,115 feet. The original height is 14,110 feet.

Back from a little run around the PNW backroads.
The 14R performed flawlessly, even knocked out almost 40 mpg, with a mix of cruising and aggressive riding. A couple of pics from our trip, found some new roads and revisited some old favorites.
Hope you guys are getting out and enjoying the summer!

Move to Australia Boys.
Our all year riding weather here only provides you with one decision to make.
Do I want to ride today or not?

Sandusky, Ohio, if I remember right, looking out at Lake Erie. On my way home from NYC this summer.
