I must be the odd one out here...my first check was at 24,000 miles...all were in spec.2013 zx14r.True story lads.

I can't recall how many times I pulled the cams out trying for the go-no-go type system. I guess I slowed down some because it took a long time seems. It was more of a guess at the feel rather than do the math of the inaccurate shims against the mic. Say my aim is somewhere in the range of .006" to .008" for the intakes. In the end I'd make sure a .006" would slide in and a .009" would not. That puts me somewhere in the .008378485" if not .0089999" range using an .008" to see where I'm at? That's 8 down, 8 to go.
I then removed the paint off the areas, turned the crank 360 and would mark the chain and cams once again. I wait for the paint to dry overnight and off I go for 8 more settings in that go-no-style. Maybe I'll be faster this time around. Don't get old!
Shim wise, both seem to fit in and fall out as if the OE was being used. That sort of tolerance I didn't measure. I'll measure and see how consistent that dimension is?

Let's cut to the chase. You guys are saying "Pro-X shims may not hold up over time." But then you're completely trusting of Hot Cams? LOL I've heard rumors that Pro-X are seconds and/or over runs from OE manufacturing. No proof of it, but it does explain why they offer quarters and not just halfs like most of the 3rd party shim offerings.
Also for thse bikes, and this is just my opinon, I highly recommend measuring using metric rather than standard. Metric is far more precise. It wouldn't be as much of an issue but our valve clearance range is much tighter than most other bikes that I've seen. Or to say, if you go-no-go at .08 inch and it's out it might actually be in range if you checked on the metric side.

I'd recommend metric tools for everything. and metric shims, too. The precision is there with a micrometer but what a PITA to convert .0375" from US to metric. It takes enough focus without throwing in an extra step.
