58...59 in...a few.Throttlemiester is the way to go for any hand cramping....that and a set of helis or Genmars...OR...as was mentioned...longer riding for your wrist and hand muscles. If that doesn't work...then the other two should(or three).I don't get cramps...but the miester is a great way to lock yer speed for a bit and just relax BOTH arms and hands.

Hammbone: Im a former Marine as well. My knees got really bad for awhile, then I started taking glucosamine everyday, and it is WAY better now. Takes a couple months before you really start to notice, but well worth it. Its just a basic vitamin you can get at walmart. It helps lube your joints.

Ok.. Im 33 turning 34 in less than a month and im 6'7 220lbs..I bought my 2009 zx14 in February I honestly love my 14. I also have a zx11 which i cant seem to part with.. but I love to ride.. I ride my 14 to and from work on most days and I have taken a few long distance rides. Philadelphia to Va Beach was the furtherest i have riden her and i was seriously sore (not to mention i havent done any comfort changes to my bike like heli raisers or lowering pegs yet).. and i expected some soreness just cause of my height and a previous surgery on 1 knee from a sports injury in college... but even with the soreness and pain from that ride I still love this bike! 85% of the time im just cruising to work or taking short rides with my motorcycle club members.. but the other 15% Im out having fun with the power of the 14.. in a safe manner of course but i love that when i want to crack the throttle the power is there. Only upgrades i did so far by myself (Thanks to this Forum!!) is Full Muzzy M14 and just today I changed my factory air filter to a K&N Filter. Im gonna put pc5 in and probably a speedometer in as well.. but even without those upgrades my zx14 is the s*&%!

My back hurts, my thumbs hurt, my wrists hurt - and that's just sitting at the computer!
So why not ride?
I'm usually good for about an hour on my ZRX, which has a much more upright sitting position, like old-school UJM's, then I need to take a break to rest.
After 4700 miles on the 14, I'm good for about an hour at a time, so it seems the riding position doesn't matter, at least for me.
It does suck getting older, but you can't let that shit stop what you love doing. Riding bikes beats riding the couch watching the tube and bitching.

My ZRX was a picnic compared to this bike.I would love to have a 1999 ZRX1100 as a spare.Dale Walker 4-1 his stage 3 jet kit and pods.17/49 gearing.Loved that bike.Had a 2001 ZRX1200 with an Ivans air box which I took off and threw in the trash where it belonged. Then tuned it right with bigger jets and pods.

I guess im just used to riding for longer periods of time. It takes me an hour just to get to where they all meet up in the morning. Then we ride for about 3 hours, have lunch, ride 1-2 more hours, then I come home.

The ZX14 and ZX14R attract older riders, mostly because we know how to use the horsepower and have fun with it, without getting $1,000 tickets and killing ourselves.
The day I picked up mine from the local dealer, he told me that only the old guys were buying them here, because they're the only one's with enough dough in this market. Times are tough...
Then, I called the insurance broker, and they gave me another reason, the hefty (my eyes bled) insurance bill...
Anyway, I'm 55, 6 ft 1 in, 170 lbs and have routinely worked out at the gym for decades now. Not doin too bad for a geezer...
I do OK with the stock seat for now, thinkin about a change to it. Same for risers... I'm trying to live with the stock cycle as much as possible, it's still much more capable than my driving abilities.
I did add peg lowering, grip puppies, and a Brake Away cruise control (push-button mechanical variety), and they all helped alot, would do them all again. I wanted an electronic cruise control (non-vacuum type), but was not willing to deal with the fairing removal (not yet, yup, I'm lazy) and wiring mods.

COOTER, I remember reading somewhere that you use your bike everyday. On an average, how many miles a day do you ride your bike? Unlike you and others, (knock on wood), I haven't had any muscle cramps in my legs yet.I ride only 20 to 30 miles a day to and from work and never have any cramping during that ride but when we ride down to the keys, Miami or up to Daytona or Tampa that’s when my hand cramps and I got the leg cramps on long distance full tuck at high speed!

New member here and I'm 58. Just got me an '06 that I'm taking delivery of in Atlanta in about 10 days and riding back to San Diego,Ca.It's over 2,000 miles and I plan on riding about 400 mi/day. I'll let you'all know how this old body survives.lol! Wish me luck.
bluestreak, when I was shopping for a bike, I almost bought a bike in Florida, and planned to ride it up north to Pennsylvania. Good luck on your trip!
jaysus lads, i never thought id be bringing the average age of a forum DOWN! lol
im 47 this year and i ride rings around the younger lads til it kills me, but i wouldnt admit it under torture!
Jafo, I think there are a few guys younger than you here, lol
The ZX14 and ZX14R attract older riders
Privateer, I would've never imagined, until I read this, THIS.
56. Back is on the mend again. In a few weeks I will ride a hundred miles one way. Visit and come back home. OOGGGHHHH!
bigBo, lol, have a safe trip.
I'm 55, 6'2", and 300 lbs., and with my back problems I'm limited not by miles, but time. About 45 min. is my limit, and after an hour rest, another 45 min. It doesn't matter if I'm going 55 mph. or 155, it's still around 45 min. unless I'm on a bumpy road. One wrong bump, and I'm done. My right hand bother me after about 30 min. The heavier bar ends, sargent seat, foam grips, gel gloves, and taller screen all helped. Oh, and after ride, I can't ride again for a couple days.
Alg8er, after this trip, I am not sure I’ll be riding more than just a few hours away from home. I applaud those that can ride successfully long distance.
32 years old, 6'2 Currently 340lbs and dropping. If back roading and getting off the seat a lot, im done probably around 200 miles. If just out cruising, and taking in the scenery, I do stretch my legs a lot while cruising down the road, but Ill do about 4-500. 1inch drop pegs were a big difference, 1inch bar risers helped but not that noticeable like the pegs. Concourse seat felt soft but odd at first, but now if I go back to the stock seat feels like a rock
Kolk1, I sure hope once I install a cruise control and lowering pegs, my rides would be a lot more comfortable, thanks.
Man you all make me feel like i need to get rid of the bike and get something more my age haha. Turning 24 in November at 5'5' and 165 lbs. I do have a small man's complex love big bikes.
Hammbone, I know exactly how you feel. I was around 20 years old when I bought my first Kawasaki 750 H2 Triple. And get those knees checked before you get too old, lol
Throttlemiester is the way to go for any hand cramping....
Grn, yep, they will be my next purchase.
54 years old, my rides only last 5 1/2 seconds.
Wee, lol that sounds like fun, lol
Philadelphia to Va Beach was the furtherest i have riden her and i was seriously sore (not to mention i havent done any comfort changes to my bike like heli raisers or lowering pegs yet).
Nitti, I also live in Philly, and never imagined that because of the rain a 4 ½ hour trip would turn in a 10 hour nightmare. If I am going to enjoy this bike, I need to make some accessory changes soon.

ZRXDarryl, that is exactly what a told my family when I announced I was buying a bike again. Lol

Audioboyz, last Thanksgiving flew home to visit family in Puerto Rico, and rode my friend’s 2002 Kawasaki ZRX 1200. We had so much fun! Maybe tonight I’ll post a pic of his bike!
It takes me an hour just to get to where they all meet up in the morning. Then we ride for about 3 hours, have lunch, ride 1-2 more hours, then I come home.
Kolk1, I usually wake up early, but it takes me an hour to get out of bed, lol

Mebgardner, it does make sense. Insurance companies are raping the consumer.
I am 48 and yes the pain can be severe
ChuckA, it is painful indeed.

Well I am 5'11" and 240 lbs so I am a 56 year old fat boy. I also have had a couple bad joints but I found that licking the paper usually seals them back up.
Out of my 5 bikes the most comfy is my 2000 ZRX1100 set up for cruising. I hate to say it but the it is more comfy than my beemer.
My 2008 14 has been set up as an old mans cruiser and fairly comfy for the open road. Down fall is no place to stretch the legs

I have taken a lot of crap for making my bike a better machine to ride like I want to ride. Of course, a sporting motorcycle with low, droopy clip-ons and a tiny windscreen looks naff, but the only time you can really appreciate that view is when you're standing next to it, something I don't spend much time doing unless I'm washing it, or I'm performing a maintenance task. When it's in motion, it's all about how it FEELS, sort of like a woman. Maybe that's why so many guys refer to their bikes as 'she' or 'her'. Some guys would prefer a beautiful woman who's a stiff in bed, but I'm more into performance. If 'she' goes like I want 'her' to, I can overlook a few not-so-beautiful features that make the ride more pleasurable.
So all you old farts moaning and groaning about your aches and pains either fix your bikes so you can ride farther with more comfort, or enjoy your suffering. It ain't gonna get any better.

LOL! True. Unfortunately, when riding a bike leaves me in too much pain to walk, it's a tough choice. I try to avoid the bitchin part, unless I'm asked. :-D I always come back from a ride with a smile on my face though.

just carry a bottle of advil or elieve and don't forget to take a couple before you go puttin around. Learned that from an old guy when I was still young.
I have to admit that the LSL kit may not be the prettiest on the 14 but oh what a joy it is to ride in comfort and if it is not fun because it makes you to sore then it will be a gayrage queen. I am afraid if I put a tail rack and trunk on it that the beemer might get retired since the biggest reason I ride the beemer most of the time is cargo space.

Might as well take some M&Ms! I'm usually poppin demerol after a ride. Sorry, I forgot, this is KoflaOlivieri's thread. Yep, always better to prevent the pain, than try to relieve it.

I'm turning 32 in Sept, 6'5, 220-235lbs depending of the season (I lift heavier and more frequently during winter). My knees get really sore after two hours non stop and since my butt is not wide the sargent seat tends to cut circulation to my thighs a little after a while. I have no comfort modes and my pegs are raised a little... On the highway and long straight I stretch my legs by resting the back of my ankles on the frame sliders
