I have the autotune unit as well so as far as I know, I should be able to tune for anything if i run it long enough to get enough data. It would shorten the process to start with a map that is close, though.

rook let me know how that pc5 works out for you was it plug and play with the 08 or was there some splicing that needed to be done. wonder why its listed for 09 and up models only?

^^The connection to my 08 was exactly as described for an 09 in the installation instructions. Basically, you unplug your main wiring harness under the throttle bodies and plug in the PC. Then you plug the main wiring harness into the receptical on the PC. It is really tough to get the main wiring harness unplugged.
you should find the chronicles of my PC install here. Good info on attaching the ground wire, also.
I'm planning to reinstall mine under the seat. If you want to try that, you should start by placing the PC under the seat from the get go and then see if the plugs will fit through the frame behind the lower gas tank on the rear brake side of the bike. Seems to me the back of the gas tank had to be lifted for routing so do under seat install on an empty tank. I don't believe any of the hoses would need to be disconected from the tank. You should be able to pull the wire through to the sprocket side of the bike to do the plug ins. I don't think there is enough room to fit the plugs through the frame on the sprocket side but that would be a shorter rout to the main wiring harness.
I believe they do not advertise the PC5 for the 08 because they did not want to stop selling the PC3. Both the 3 and the 5 work the same though. You just can't use the same maps between the 3 and the 5.

I had planned to get the LCD and I have thought about the possible need for the PC to be mounted near it. Is the USB cable long enough to reach from the steering stem to under the seat? If not, do you think it would possible to pick up a longer cable from Best Buy or somewhere?

Rook yes the lcd will be long enough to go from under your seat i recomend the stem mount for it and velcro the lcd to the plate on stem mount cause at $300 you dont want it walking away if you know what i mean. I will take a pic of mine to give u an idea

Sounds about like what I've been reading on the net. If you can afford them now, I say go for it and get your use out of them. If you want to change over to a full system, you should be able to sell them and take a hit for 2-3 hundred bucks. Not bad if you run them a year.

I just put some M4 slip ons on today. They are remarkably similar to the Muzzy slips I removed to put the M4s on. Same deep tone with the M4s slightly louder,(baffles in.) M4 tone gets a little sweeter at higher revs. The M4s seem a little zippyer mid range. Low end is about the same with the M4s a little rougher under 3K. Not rough accelleration just rough sounding idling. Tomorrow I'll put on the PCIII with the map for the M4s. That should smooth out the idling, I hope. They also seem to run a little cooler than the Muzzys. This is a lot of first impression stuff based on about 25 miles combo highway and backroads. There's also some wishful thinking going on because I want the M4s to be an improvement. Realistically they're essentially equal to the Muzzys, the biggest difference is aesthetics.
I have some ceramic coated 06 headders which I'm going to hold off on installing for a while. If the M4s really run cooler I may not need to change headders.
I'll be writing more as I get more miles down.

hey sharkey when you ride that for a lil while and get ur pc3 pull those db killers out of the end of the pipes and see if what i stated above is true or if it was just in my head lol bike doesnt get much louder really and owning the m4s now you know that distinct low rumble they make when you let off the throttle in 1st and 2nd well without the cones in the pipes you pretty much lose that distinct sound but what i have notice is there is a lil more snap (crispness)in the throttle in 1st and second gear with those cones out. it was 90 degrees here yesterday and humid i was stuck in stop and go traffic for 30 min or so and temp never got over 4 bars. well good luck installing that pc3 just a side not when installing that, be sure to get the harness locked in good when you get it hooked up give that harness a lil tug to make sure its snapped in i didnt get mine snapped in the first time and after a few weeks it started sliding in and out causeing the bike to run like shit and would die after running for a couple min. rook has a thread on this pc harness thing be worth ur while to check it out lol well good luck thats a nice 14 you have there

Thanks for the ideas scott. I know I'll pull the baffles eventually. I like changing one thing at a time so I can kind of measure the results.I have read the thread about the connections on the PCs.
Yea, most people have overheating problems in stop snd go situations. My problems have been in spirited riding sessions with lots of high RPM shifting and engine braking. I've gotten pegged out without absolute overheat but enough to burn my legs. I've had to slow down and try to coast a lot to bring the temp back down. I'll be really happy if the M4s actually run cooler, and I'm hoping even more so with the PC controls map. Since that map for the M4s is written for stock headder (with the cat in it) it may mean I woln't need to change headders. I do have a Muzzy fan to add a little later too. Like most of us ...always a work in progress..LOL

I would just like to thank everyone for their input on the m4 exhaust i just finished installing mine today on my 14 and I must admit I am very happy with it. Mr friend that lives around the corner came over because he said he could here it at his house. They look great and sound excellent. Best Of all they were easy to install 15 minutes and I was done.
