If you use Givi side racks, you can't easily mount a top rack, so no top case.

If you use the SW-Motech side racks, you can easily mount a top rack, and also buy locking knobs to keep someone from getting your locked sidecases by taking the entire rack off. Plus spare parts are easy to get at Twisted Throttle. Even if they don't list it, call them and they'll fix you up.

The SW-Motech system is designed for all three luggages. There is a thick spacer that is used for the topcase when no sidecases are installed, and a thin spacer if using all three luggages. I used a screwdriver as a prybar to create some working room, and then inserted the thin spacer, and then used a chisel and hammer to gently tap the spacer into place, and then put a screwdriver through all the holes to line them up.

The only modification for the 2012 ZX-14R was two (2) homemade rectangular brackets with two holes that are about 1.5 inches apart (to lower the mufflers). The other thread that describes how to do this is here:

Here are the Twisted Throttle installation videos for the sidecases.

I ordered the largest ZG smoke shield Friday.I like the Puig I have but over 120 it's too short.I'm 6 ft 2 and can't get behind it.The ZG is 4 1/2 in over stock.Hope it offers a better place to hide so I can go 185.

New guy here, currently obsessing on what bike I'm going to buy next spring. I'm torn between a Hayabusa and the ZX-14R. The 14R is my favorite of the two, but the aftermarket is kind of a turnoff, specifically the ability to set the 14R up for touring.

I'd rather not have to lower my exhaust to get these bags to fit. I'm not opposed to aftermarket exhaust, Brock's Alien Head 2 being my favorite. By the looks of it, the Alien Head would cure the exhaust issue, as far as clearance goes. The only question remains is whether or not the Alien Head would melt the right bag.

I like the Brock's CT single as well, but it looks like it'll have the same clearance issues that the stock cans have.

On a Hayabusa, the racks just bolt right up and I'm good to go. On the 14R, I'm either going to have to monkey with the exhaust mounts (not a fan of that) or spend nearly $2000 on an exhaust system that might melt the bags anyway.

I'm not against putting a new exhaust on the bike, and I would like to do that eventually with whatever one I decide to get. I'd just rather not do that right out of the gate. The wife would not be pleased. :)

Any thoughts?

If you are the type of person who must have the biggest, baddest, most powerful motorcycle in the world, then the only choice is the 2012 ZX-14R. If you want to have bragging rights and receive lots of attention wherever you go, then the only choice is the 2012 ZX-14R.

If you are the type of person who is just fine having something that is not the best and you don't want to be the center of attention, then get something else and save some money.

In terms of lowering the exhaust, it is just a simple rectangular piece of metal with two holes that are about 1.5 inches apart. It takes about 5 minutes to install (once the brackets are fabricated), not including the trip to Home Depot to buy two strips of metal brackets and two bolts / nuts, and a regular drill (with a drill bit for metal).

I am fabricating a bracket to better accommodate having a Corbin backrest, and I'll have instructions and photographs in the near future. I've already designed one bracket that moves the topcase farther towards the rear of the bike, but I would prefer one that moves it backwards and upwards so that it opens hanging over the backrest -- this will permit the topcase to open without touching the backrest, while maintaining minimal distance between the backrest and the lower half of the top case. If you don't want to use the Corbin backrest, then you wouldn't need any of that. Here is the first draft that only moves it towards the rear (the final version, however it ends up, will be painted black):

What is the difference in price of the Give bags as opposed to say the Corbin set which is about $1800.00 per set?

Givi bags and mounts for all three are about $1,000.00 total.

Is there a reason beyond already having the back rest seat that you did not just put the backrest pad on the v46 trunk? Is the trunk on the origional mounting system you had there stable enough for someone to lean back against it comfortably?

The comments around the internet, as well as the write-up by Twisted Throttle on its website, warn about the rear of the topcase being almost flush with where the passenger's back normally is. The advice is for the rider and the passenger to sit on the bike with the topcase installed, and place a 2 to 3 inch cushion between the back of the passenger and the topcase in order to simulate the backrest pad that could potentially attach directly to the trunk. In many cases, the rider and the passenger are pushed forward a couple of inches, and this becomes uncomfortable for the pilot and also the passenger. The topcase has a silver band around the center that cannot be removed, which presses uncomfortably into the back of the passenger -- so some type of a backrest is necessary. The large backrest of the Corbin seat is probably about as comfortable and safe as is within the realm of possibilities -- the acceleration of the ZX-14 is fierce, and I really wouldn't want my girlfriend to rely on the topcase as a backrest in an emergency maneuver, or God forbid, a rear-end collision.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. It appears I will as well have to be doing some mock up and fabrication of an altered mount for the back rest. I rarely have a passenger and when I do, she is only 11 right now so she does not take up much room.

Here's a real sport touring machine. Rumor is 2014 will bring the ZX14R engine and some other changes to the Concours 14 line. I might have to trade up then!

@Motero: Looks like the regular racing screen from MRA, I have got the double bubble version Your text to link here...... They make really good screens but usually delivery takes a month. I got lucky, mine was in stock at twistedthrottle.com. At 6'5 it does a good job.

And yes you have to remove the plastic when you install the center S, that's why I went with the Packjack!

Well, Shotgun, that looks familiar: here's mine loaded for a 4k tour of the Rockies and back. Next season, I may have Two Brothers exhaust as well. I can do without the larger windscreen but do like the darker tint!

Yeah Paul,I hate the way it makes the bike look but function over form at 85mph for hours on end sport/touring.
It's a ZG S/T and puts the wind right at my visor. I'm 6'1" and no risers on the clip-on's.
I rode straight through to home this last Sunday,940 miles, the last 350 in the rain.
I had a C-14 I traded in on this bike. Zero regrets.
The C-14 is a Touring bike.
The ZX-14 is a Sport/Touring bike.
One man's opinion and I had 37,000 miles on the C-14.
3,600 and counting on the 14R.
