As long as it doesn't leak when you get it back, they fixed whatever was wrong, regardless of what some moron salesman says.

Was it Dillon and was the salesman Gary?
I would definitely insist on a pretty in-depth explanation. I do agree with Dan that as long as the leak is gone......However, 14k is a lot of cash to throw out for an oil leak you are not sure about. Go with your gut. If you checked the drain plug before you took it to them, make sure that's known and question them on it......

Just done my 4th oil change and I'm still on the same drain plug washer that came with the bike, and no leaks. The only way I can see that the washer will leak is if the drain plug isn't torqued up correctly. If this was the case, personally, I would expect to see more oil round the sump plug area than round the front sprocket area.
As said above, I guess the main issue is that it's fixed. JMO

Update...
I just called the shop directly, rather than the salesman.
They replaced the oil drain plug crush washer, which didn't fix the leak (yeah, no kidding).
They traced the oil leak up higher, to some crank bolt that was leaking, either due to improper torque or a bad crush washer. I don't know enough about the bike yet that I can say exactly what he's talking about. He said it was a copper crush washer, and it is up high on the bike. They have to go in from above (remove tank, etc).
They are replacing the copper washer and re-torquing the bolt. Then they have to test ride it and let it sit, to see if the leak comes back.
Not sure if it'll be ready today or not, but he hopes so.

The bike is back home. It was leaking oil around one of the bolts for the case halves. The dealer said he thought he could get away with re-torquing the bolt, but replaced the copper crush washer instead.
They washed the bike for me as well, which is kind of funny, considering it is brand new.
When he wheeled it out of the shop, I noticed one of the tabs wasn't in the right place for the tank cover. I pointed it out to him and back into the shop it went. 5 minutes later, it was all good.
I asked him for documentation of the work he did. He told me that he has to write it up and send it to Kawasaki. Once that's done, he'll get me a copy. Might take two weeks.

What you need to do is take it for a ride. Give it a 10 to 30 mile loop. That's 5 out, 5 back = 10 miles is plenty. But 15 can be gobbled up within minutes. Deer season and hidden speed guns remember is that night vision. The higher crank pressure will give that seal a workout.

Glad you got your bike back.......I agree with Hub. Give it a go for a short ride. But, before you go, fire it up, let it fast idle to operating temp and get under there with a flashlight to check for any leaks. Probably won't find any, but, won't hurt to check.
If you don't have time, I will be glad to come over and take it for a quick ride for you. :)

Great info,,,, Now I must go look for the same leaking bolt.

Sounds like things are good? I hope so man... glad you go the Jolly Green Giant back home ;)
You know if I had a green one I would get a pic of the JGG on the seat cowl :) I keep kicking around getting the X-Men's Beast on mine, but I am a cheap bastard, and DON'T point out the fact that I have a $15k bike and another $2k in upgrades... I really don't like to be confused with the facts

Yeah, should be good now. I started putting my Tankslapper film on, and discovered how much harder the 14R is to put on a rear stand vs. a 10R. The bike is big and heavy (so far, any attempts to lift it have been unsuccessful), and you can't see the swingarm while you hold up the bike, which makes lining up the spools pretty tough.
I had my wife hold the bike up while I tried to lift it. No go!

J, that is what I did as well, but I got mine up on the stands. but I am a big guy, I was more worried about getting it almost all the way up, it coming back down and my wife not holding it up. Just make sure you have the stands wide enough, I scratched up my swing arm... upset me but oh well, its done now.

A few dips of plastdip, helped with the spool attachments scratching the swingarm ...

Yea omega, I know what you mean about past sins, still trying to figure out what to do with the key fob scratches on the triple crown ! what an idiot I am ! you would think after 30 plus years of riding, I would know not to attach anything to the key (unless it was plastic, etc ..) then yesterday, I did the unthinkable, I didnt put the kickstand all the way down ! and yes you guessed it, It went down ! luckily I was getting off the bike and kind of caught it before it did any real damage, but it was hard holding it up, and getting it back up, I have lost 90 lbs since my last bike, and I have little strength on my left shoulder because of the accident when some old lady pulled out in front of me, and broke my collar bone, shoulder, and ribs .....
just a small surface scratch to the left lower fairing, I quickly buffed it out and put a new coat of wax on it ...

To make it easier to put any bike on a stand by yourself is to get a 2x4 or so piece of wood and put it under the kickstand. It stands up the bike perfectly every time. I never had help yet. Just get a piece that is the right height and it stands it straight up and makes it very simple then. You must be a small guy because im only 165-170llbs and never had a problem picking up the 14 with one hand. I use one hand to push down on the rear stand and the other to hold the rear passenger peg to balance it and bam it's right up. And I'm no super strong guy either. Time to hit the gym my friend!!!!!!!!!!!
