I did a couple of thousand miles in searing heat on a near brand new, but plugged, PR2 without any drama. But you know it was always in the back of my mind that it was gonna fail and I hated it!

This is exactly what I was thinking and why I went ahead in replaced the tire. I just didnt want that in the back of my mind @ 160mph. I wanted to be able to enjoy it and worry about other stuff such as cops, road debris and cagers! LOL

I've been riding since 1965, in those days I ran tube that looked like patch work quilts, since tubeless tyre came in I've plug and patched and never had an issue, all the hype about it is a load of B S as far as I'm concerned, any thing to sell more tyre and get your cash.
B-A

I hear ya BA, I dont doubt that there is a lot of sales hype on getting a new tire. But, I dont want to be that one lone random looser that they sales guys use as an example. "Yea I heard of this guy that ran a plugged tire, had no problems until one day it blew out on the highway and he got slammed by a semi"

LOL he already replaced it guys.

Thanks edge, yes gents I pulled the trigger and am already back on the road!

I can finally rate my Pilot Road 2 tires. The ride is excellant, and neutral. The bike turns in predictably and smoothly. The grip on damp pavement while leaned over is excellant.

Now to see how many miles they last, and how the dual compound wears.

Well, I rode a ZXR400 in Japan with 4(!) plugs in the front tire for a week with the Japan VFR Club. Those guys are fast and I had to ride the piss out of the 400 to keep up. No problems with the tire. So, go figure...

You'd be amazed at what some people do on a daily basis and get away with it. Kinda like the old picture of some guy in the middle east somewhere with his whole family and a goat piled on a little motorcycle. There's no arguing with economics but for most people who have any business owning a ZX14 in the first place, you should be able to spend $50 bucks more for the peace of mind and if you gotta skimp maybe you really can't afford motorcyling. Kinda like people who cheap out and don't replace chain and sprockets as one unit. Why be cheap on such an important aspect of the machine. "But hey I got Pazzo levers!"lol dumbass

BTW I wasn't referring to anyone here...:)

So why don't we just start making tire out of that?

I don't think it's necessarily about "the plug" not working or something. It's more about damaging the tire carcass by reaming out the plug hole first. The plug itself isn't gonna come out if installed correctly. The plies in the tire could however tear or something creating a weak spot.BUT....I've never heard of one failing.I've ridden on a plugged Strada...friggin new tire.Wasn't about to replace it.No way.It held up fine...even at ballistic speed. If the tire has visible ripping or something like that,a cut, anything that would appear to possibly get more damage, then a plug would be out of the question. But for a simple nail hole or something...ya...I wouldn't hesitate at all to plug and keep riding till the tire wore out.

scottjkyl; Slime is pretty much the same thing, except for the balancing part. I would think that all the gel would collect at the bottom of the tire after being parked overnight, making for an interesting ride in the morning.

Im loving my new road pilot 3 tires it’s the best performing tire I have ever had very sticky have not ridden in the rain but my pilot 2’s rode great in the rain and the pilot 3’s are suppose to be an improvement but the most impressive thing about the pilot 3 is the fact that I will not catch groves or cracks in the road amazing!
