Here's the Yoshimura Slipon graph off Ivan's website, notice you only pick up a couple of ponies on the top end but look at the torque from 2500 to 3000, picks up about 17 lb-ft at 3000 rpm. The difference is huge, biggest bang for the buck I've ever gotten out of a tune because you feel it every time you launch the bike. Mods were Yoshimura TRC slipons, subthrottle plates removed, Ivan's TRE006A, PC3 and his custom mapping. If you go to his website and check out the '06/'07 mods, the full systems gave more power on top but lost the low end boost. It's a trade off and I'll take the power down low where I can use it. He tuned my '08 ZX-10R and that thing was a freakin monster, Akrapovic Evolution titanium full system, PC3, his TRE and mapping. Now that one would smoke my 14 off the line!

Whoops my bad, that previous graph is comparing my setup to an '06 bike with TRE 008, if you compare to a stock '06, mine picked up almost 30 lb-ft torque at 3000 rpm, went from about 50 ft-lb to almost 80 lb-ft.

Stock '06 is the lower curve, flies in, compare to the upper curve on the previous graph for the torque and power gains with my setup.

You picked up all that torque from removing the flies.not really that tune, you remove those flies on the 06-07 its a friggin beast. Now u said your 08 zx10 would kill your 14 off the line???????Man 2 of my friends have that bike and that year 10 was a wimp down low,im sorry NO 1000 will EVER beat a busa,14 off the line with equal riders,WAAAYYY to much torque down low,PLUS a 10 with alot of work to make it a beast would flip over if u tried to keep up with an rider of the same skill, those things wheelie for like the first 3 gears. I'm one of the better riders here,so the guys let me race their bikes to see what it can do and noooooo way that 10 beat the 14 no way.

I've seen plenty of flies out '06/'07 that couldn't pull the head off a flat beer down low. Right pipe and tune can make all the difference. Check out Ivan's website, he's got graphs for all the popular full system pipes on the flies out '06/'07s, big differences in throttle response and low end grunt. Choose wisely.... and stay thirsty my friend!

@Rook: How light are the 14R wheels? 2-3lbs, it is a good investment if you can get them of a salvaged bike. IMO this is the main reason the 14R handles so good. Do you have yours installed yet?

@ Kruz: on one of my favorite road here the fastest guys take the slowest corner (20 mph) at 50mph, I've heard of some guy who could take it at 60 mph but haven't ran into him. Yeah let me know when you make it down here... I'll make sure to come up with some good routes. I'm trying to get my friend in Switzerland to send me a couple of Monte Cristo as well so keep your finger crossed.

@zx14rider: what's top speed for most of the races you do and what gear you usually end in? Down here all you can use is probably 4th before you have to tug on the rein and pray to make it through the corner lol

@Dragking

Montechristos...yum yum! That's worth the trip right there. I can believe it, some of these guys corner like cats on velcro. I've got a posted 25 I can take at about 60 but 60 through a posted 20, that is insane!

That reminds me, I've found a good rule of thumb for a brisk ride on a road you've never ridden is corner entry speed 2X posted speed and you should be OK on a sportbike, 40mph posted, enter at 80 mph and so forth. Once you know the road and have the corners nailed, it's more like 2X+10 or greater, so a 30 can be taken at 70+.

You gotta be careful though as I've run into a couple decreasing radius turns at that 2X speed that had me running wide towards the ditch and major butt pucker factor enters the equation.

I don't recall the weight of the 14r wheels but it was something like 2-3 lbs/wheel less than gen1 I believe. I wouldn't spend more than 100$ on that without trying them on the bike to see if its that much of a change. I'm sure the difference is there but not dramatic and as far as looks, same as gen 1.

I have Tri Rs and they still sit at the foot of my bed waiting to go on the bike. I am about to order a tire stand and balancer and some tire irons to try to mount my own tires. I don't trust a shop to be careful to not scratch them. I am having some trepidations about reefing on my brand new aluminum rims with tire irons......it is possible to bend the lip and then your screwed.

Here are the weighhts:

BST's
Front, with spacers:
6 lbs. 1 oz. Add 4-5 lb for rotors you got 10-11 lbs full weight front BST

Tri-R,
Front + CZ 13" rotors
12 lb, 4.5 oz

BST
Total rear, with sprocket carrier:
11 lbs. 1 oz.

Tri-R
rear, with sprocket carrier
12 lb, 6 oz

Stock gen1 wheels:

Front 11.6 lbs. (add 5.5 lbs for OEM rotors)
Rear 19.5 lbs. (add 4.5 lbs for OEM rotor & sproc)

I know the look is not for everyone. I actually like the look of my OEM wheels vey much. BSTs look best of all but you have to want CF. Cant paint and def cant powdercoat.

The takehome point is the price.

Tri Rs can be had for almost 1/3 what BSTs cost. They are about 1 lb heavier/ wheel. that is a dif of 14.32 %

only 1/7 heavier but 2/3 less expensive

...and in the end, we still don't know HOW MUCH faster it will make us. You try you buy. I have yet to hear of a drag racer say the wheels make a real big dif in 0-160 acceleration. Had a guy tellme 2 100th in the 1/4. I'm convinced it is not worth it for straightline performance. .02 is about what, about 1/4 of a bike length? That's winning by a nose.

Yeah they do nothing for straight line really but I want them for carving corners, that much weight saving it's going to make a huge difference in the corners. With better skills I can see myself hanging with pre 2006 liters!!!

There is a small shop I go to here. They have only one mechanic and he takes his time, you can tell he loves his job. If I get BST's I will be able to hang with him when he does the job! There is also another guy on the local forum who would come to your house and charge you 20 bucks if you help him with the tire change. Big shops have too many noobs who can't wait for friday and are probably jealous of your bike. They are going to scratch those rims on purpose!
