My beautiful "blue" is out of break-in (hell on earth) and I finally got to take it up in to the higher rpms.
It reminded me of my zx11, the faster i went, the smoother it got. I had the usual light clunking around town during break in, but after going with full synthetic I definitely could feel a difference. This bike is amazing.
Motero, hope you get your problem fixed so you can enjoy and fully realize what an awesome machine this is.

"Well, what I thought was only going to be a minor repair has turned into a major project. My new Zx-14r only had 40 miles when I began to notice something was not right with the shifter lever. I first thought it was because the bike was new so I continued to drive it for a little over 100 miles. So, the next morning I called the dealership and I was told to bring the bike in to have it looked. They were able to duplicate the problem very easily. So, I was told that the clutch will need to be removed and inspected. The next day I received a phone call from the service manager. I was then told that the clutch and clutch basket looked good. The service manager also contacted Kawasaki tech support and was told to replace the shift fork and some other parts. Sounds simple I thought. Not really I was told. The engine will need to be removed and the block will need to be split. I'm very grateful that the dealership is doing their best to fix my bike. However my bike only has 149 miles on it. I just picked it up on May 23. Did I get stuck with a lemon?. I have had several Kawasaki sportbikes ,this is the first time I have ever had a problem with it. I havent even stopped to refill my fuel tank and the engine already needs to be removed. I was told by the service manager it will take about 2 weeks. My dealership has a great staff, I have been their customer for about 18 years. However, I must admit I'm a little concerned with the turnout of a major repair. I mean really, my bike only has 149 miles and now this"....

Now THIS sounds credible.I believe this guy.He's doing something about it.You're not...you're ragging on me instead..I would say...if you're mechanically inclined...open the case...check the shift forks,and shift star,and go from there.It sounds to me like this other guy is getting reamed by having to 'remove the engine'....yes...it does.To me anyway.If you are not sure how to check and replace these items...you can go to EvoStar Shift Star....google that.There is a full tutorial with pictures showing exactly how to do this inspection and work.I did....followed what it said...and had NO problems.This was on my 07 zx14,,,when I changed out the shift star.The 14R probably is very very similar in that area.You could look in the manual...or the parts fiche and compare parts in the diagrams...and see just how things are situated in there..then possibly do it yourself...if ya wanted.Just as a note here...when I did mine..I had NEVER evn cracked a bike case open...ever.Never had taken a clutch out.Nothing.Cold...first time doing it..on any bike.It went together exactly as should.Lucky for me I guess.

If your issue IS a shift fork/shift shaft problem...you should be able to replace that on your own...IF you feel like you want to.If I did it...YOU can do it.

Let me say this right here..so there's NO question...I DO believe your bike is having a problem as you say.So that should settle any future questions about how I think concerning your situation.

And before I get slammed for suggesting you do this yourself...if it were MY bike...I'd be having the dealer do this...just so it was documented correctly and on them.If it was happening 'out of warranty'...then yeah..I'd probably check it/replace it myself.

"Splitting the Cases"...'Removing the engine"...THIS I can't see with this kind of 'repair'....Having done it myself.There was NO drama...except when trying to remove the allen bolt inside where the flange on the shifting bearing was at.THAT had me worried...for a minute that is.It was extremely tight.
