......She just want a house

No better investment IMHO. Not that you necessarily MAKE a LOT of money owning a home. In all liklihood, it will all get spent in the end after we go on Medicade in the nursing home. But living in a house you own ---there is no more secure and independent feeling.....not that anything is ever guaranteed. Living one day at a time is a very special thing in your house. You have kids that is x10.

but I digress. YES, God love ya, you need your track bike (too).

This is from a "600cc vs 1000cc" thread on the wera forum, guys who have raced on both for a long time:

"The big differences will be how fast you are going when you arrive at the braking area. On a 600 or 750, it can feel like you are just sitting there...when you get to the "3" marker on a 1k, it will still be trying to pull your eyeballs out. ..pulling you into the braking area. For this reason, your braking point is more critical. THe bike is gaining speed every split second you are still on the gas. Also, the braking area will be longer (and that can beat you up physically) because of higher straightaway speed and slower entry speed.

As far as line...Think of it this way....a 1k is losing time whenever its leaned over and gaining time on the meat of the tire. So you want to be on the meat of the tire as much as possible. You do this (especially in drive oriented corners) by turning in a little later than you would on the 600...letting the bike rotate...then picking it up and accelerating out on the meat of the tire.

You'll find that on a 600....it seems like no matter how hard you enter a corner...if you turn your head and look where you want to go...it will go there. On a 1k, if it starts to arc into a particular corner at 65mph...if you try 66mph..it will feel like it wants to go straight. The bike isn't that much heavier, but it acts way heavier due to the engine.

So...you have to be a little more disciplined with your braking marker...and turn in point. Things are going to happen faster. Really concentrate on throttle control. Stay forward..if you get to the back of the seat, its going to wear you out.

Its perfectly normal to feel like you are going to piss your leathers EVERY time you swing a leg over the 1K."

And also a huge factor:

"Get ready for the tire budget to increase"

And to sum it all up:

"The weight might be close, but the riding experience is completely different."

That makes me feel so much better about myself.
As you know, I lowsided my 10r the first time I swung a leg over it... Everytime I ride the thing, that is in the back of my mind.

That was some good info you posted. Do you mind posting the link to the entire thread?

I'm off to the dyno (ECU flash )... WEEEEEEEE!

Steer are the 3 variables to this trackday/race day:

1. Drummer Boy should stand in the middle of his bikes? Drum on each tank for tone and now go for it. Anyway, MATT has the point and shootheory. This is back to body and bike. It is that eyesight way out ahead is the only way to get from point A to point B

.if you turn your head and look where you want to go...it will go there.
Smooth says I look farther out, plan for the next because here I am already.

2. Next is to grab your balls, screw it tight under your brain stem and now you have mind and body connected. One more variable to go.

3. Bike prep. If you don't have every bolt massaged not to fall off or fail moving that fast, it's prep-prep-prep... Now go out and the rest is in your right hand, because bike and balls are all connected now.

The funny thing is that I became exited about the house when the wify said the bike will follow, she's thinking gardening tomatoes, green onions... I'm thinking 2 cars garage full of bikes

Pretty good stuff there Mass. The point you raised about entry speed 65-66 mph difference got me wondering... you were talking about a liter so I imagine with a 14...

Man that's humbling. I didn't know that straight was that long. What top speed you think you gna be able to reach with the 14 Dogo?

If you can do it, cool. Just make sure you have enough braking distance at the end.

I wouldn't have had to worry about getting kicked off because i would be dead. heh-
No top speed rules as long as you don't pass in the corners until out of Novice class. Not much of an issue on the 14. Wait until you know the track and then pass. With a beaut such as your's, I'm not so sure I would fight to stay in front though. That was where I was in over my head. I could have wrecked.

The straightaway is about 1/3 mile and I would hit it at about 45 mph coming out of the turn. I was up to 130 in no time but I cut the gas no less than halfway to the end. There was another harsh corner. Saw a few riders off track there. They cleared the trees a LONGGGGGGG distance at the end of that straightaway. Nothing to worry about hitting except a turtle or a turkey maybe.

watching the higher level classes, I noticed the smaller bikes didn't push it much farther than I did. Once they were at the tower, they were engine braking.

You have plenty of braking power on the stock 14. That was the hardest braking I ever did but honestly, I never really felt I was pulling so hard on the lever. Never noticed a bit of fade either. I guess I was about 220 suited and there was still plenty of braking power to spare. BUT, the 14 is such a big bike. You can brake hard and it still will take pretty much room to slow down for a tight corner when you are moving real fast.

Only rule is no wheelies. "That's for when you're on the street," we were told.

The Org I'll likely be doing the most trackdays with allows passing on the outside of corners in the novice group.

Only rule is no wheelies.

Haven't seen anything about wheelies in the literature I've been reading from the Orgs here... If same rule, I hope they mean "sustained wheelies". I won't be able to keep the front down the whole day... it's a forking racetrack!

At Hallett they just don't want you doing wheelies around groups. If you aren't grouped up they don't care if you let the front fly! And we're aloud to pass on the outside in novice.

Dogo,

if I were you and getting ready to hit the track, this is where I will put my $$$ first:

Gear up, maybe hold off on a new suit if you plan on losing weight, but get everything else you need but don't currently own.

Get a good back and a chest protectors, hugely important. Knox is the best out there IMHO, Contour Race back protector and both styles of chest protectors they have is the way to go:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/categories.bok?category=KNOX+Armor+Home+Page

You will also need (probably two which makes it easier for back to back track days) some of these, great product:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=8415

Then one of these:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=9914

I would recommend Held Phantom and/ or Titan gloves, everything elase I've tried is distant second:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Categories.bok?category=HELD+Gloves+Home+Page

You really can't beat this boot IMHO, any color combo goes:

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=11701

Get a few pairs of socks too, I go through at least 3 pairs on a hot day, Alpinestars or other brand, not crucial.

If same rule, I hope they mean "sustained wheelies"

I'm pretty sure that is the implication. It would be unlikely that anyone would see a 2 second power wheelie a few inches off the ground. I think I saw someone pass me on one wheel later in the day. I was easy on and off the throttle. WOT was something more likely to happen in 3rd ,4th 5th gear. Lower gears were on corners at 6-7K rpm so I was pretty careful about tearing it open. I had one surprise front lift out of al 8 runs. No one came up and yanked me off the track me with a big hook or anything. lol

Mass, I'm pretty well set up with gear already... I want to get a one piece suit, once I drop 20 more pounds, but I do still have a Joe Rocket 2 piece from when I was 200 pounds that'll work... Has a little rash, but that's ok... don't wanna be the poser with all new shit first time out anyhow... I remember you saying something about that, and making a reference to Dinner For Schmucks.

Swear I'm gonna know this track better than my woman before Spring.

Got a trailer? A truck with a good size bed could get it done too.

they just don't want you doing wheelies

They mean intentional wheelies. Like someone who can't get around the track as fast as others and also starts doing something that makes them even more unpredictable and dangerous for everybody else who's sharing the track.

When you ride in a group without passing restrictions, power wheelies don't bother anybody. They are not considered "erratic" riding. Orgs usually let their advanced groups rage freely, experience gets in the way of people going full retard.

Dogo, are they still going to have track days at the ridge this year? I'm sure the season is about over around here.

Nope... atleast not for a rookie... and 2012 schedules aren't posted yet... rumors of a day mid Feb, but will be weather contingent... Mid to late April is when the real fun will begin.
