Romans- the extra weight is not noticeable, actually the bike feels lighter to me. It definitely handles better.
Rossb- I had the Scorpio SR-i500 on my 07 14 with no-cut bike specific wiring harness. Due to the 2012 wider rear, I had to make one of the wires longer on the harness. Unfortunately I had to disassemble the rear portion of the bike, and pull out the tool box & computers to get to the factory wiring plugs. I personally would not splice up a brand new bike, that is just foolish IMHO.

Glad you like the Xentecs, Seno. Been real happy with mine.
In the little bit of tinkering you've done so far, have you found were the extra weight is?
Wheelie weighed the 14r's stock system at 41 lbs... '06-'07's stock system weighs a little over 37 lbs... Not sure what stock '08-'11 system weighs, but it's definitely heavier than the '06-'07 because of the 3rd cat... Could be more than 41 lbs, have to weigh mine... Anyhow, looks like the extra weight is not in the stock exhaust... So where is it?
BTW, not tryin' to stir shit up... just wanna figure out where the pork is and if it can be trimmed.

I didn't mean to turn your thread into a break-in debate, Seno.
run it hard, change the oil, and let it cool (heat cycle it) a few times.
changed Spectro at about 75, 250, 500, 1000, remember, LOTS of hard runs on the brand new engine. Saw nary a spec of glitter in my oil, of course it was changed often enough, wasn't it. after 1000 I just went to Suz or Kaw oil. changed oil for storage of course. Not much glitter ever. Intend to change oil every 2500 miles now. Only problem, I have not ridden it enough to put that kind of mileage on it. lol I will try some kind of synthetic after I have about 5-6000 miles. No big hurry on that.

Like you Rook, I am a fan of Spectro. Unfortunately the shop I go to did not have spectro 10-40, so I got the kawi synthetic blend. Changed my oil at 120 miles, the first 50 were broken up into 3 segments, 50%, 75%, and 100%.... I gave the bike 15 mins to cool between them (that's when I took the pictures). the next 70 were varied runs going through the gears up to mid triple digits a few times. Yesterday I did 300 mikes or varied riding, going to change it again soon.... I usually change it every 1000 miles.

Dogo- the Gen1 to 14R is a difference of 29 lbs. I know that some journals in the engine were beefed up, oiling system changed around, slipper clutch added and the head did grow a little. It's probably mostly in the engine, and the suspension was definitely re-sprung (maybe a few lbs between the forks & rear shock?). The Gen1 felt inadequate to me suspension wise, this one feels GREAT. There are not too many times I have ridden 200+ miles on a bike the past 12 years... I could have gone a few hundred more yesterday, that's how great this bike felt! I can not tell you how comfortable that seat is...amazing!

Don't know about all...
Group gathering would be cool... Been tried but never panned out... I'd do my best to make it if another was planned.

Gen1 suspension sucks, IMHO... Saves a bunch of mod $$$ if the new stuff is up to snuff.
Same battery in the 14r as old bike?... Wondering if the new electros warranted a bigger/heavier battery from the factory.

Hey Seno
Now that I hear that LI Kaw is getting one tomorrow I sorry I didn't...lol....But I cut a deal with a dealer in NJ about 15 min from my house. I cut a sweetie of a deal so I had to take it! $5500 on the trade and $13200 for the SE no bullshit frieght or prep charges just tags and tax. I only ordered it last Sat. so I figure mine is about 3 weeks away based on you getting yours about a month after you ordered it. Thanks for the intro to Zues he sounded like a great guy.

Cool. ya the people at Long Island Kawasaki are really amazing... They take care of you after the sale and go above & beyond. I took out the warranty on my 07 and winterized my bike in a nice warm garage.... When I went to take it out gas had expanded and eaten up the paint on my tank. Needless to say Bill over there warranted the tank for me. They have the best service department I have ever used. Well if you need someone for service give them a try, I use AJ as a "primary" mechanic there... I am anal and want 1 guy working on my bike, not 6 different people besides me. In addition I value his no bullshit opinion as a road racer.

DOGOZX and Zeno suggest a national ralley.
Why not consider my "MSTA STAR" posting in "Rides,Rallies, and ...."?
I just posted this a few days ago.
Advantages include: forming your own small riding groups for each ride (could be all of the ZX forum or only some OR mixed with other attendees), ride and accomadations are very reasonable (cheap even), its a well established group of enthusiastic experienced sport tourers mostly (largest age group is middle-age and above), its in beautiful ski mountains of CO in the mid summer,etc.etc.
Self selected groups by mutual consent ride at their own chosen pace:spirited but safe group riding is the emphasis; if the group is too slow or too fast for you, drop out and ride alone or catch another group. If you ride dangerously fast and illegally into oncoming lanes on blind curves or through small towns along the way, you will find yourself riding alone (not infrequently, but far from usual, MSTA rallies have to remove some of these guys from the tour by scraping them from the landscape after calling the rescue squad).
The organized routes are planned and tested by local MSTA members, as are all the arrangements. Why not take advantage of these historically successful national meets and "send a flight of 14's " to this years STAR? You might some new "life long friends" you don't know yet.
I haven't taken my new R yet (turning in the old one this week though), but I am making plans to go to STAR if my health allows. Haven't been to Rockies in years and haven't circled one as fast and as smooth as I surely will come June 2012. If you don't want to ride to CO, consider renting a trailer or a truck with some other local riders.
Check it out in the "Rides..." posting.

Looks like a fun ralley, Paul... I'm game... Never been been to CO, other than for a layover... which doesn't count. Pretty close to the middle of the country... Good place for a national ralley.
