oooooooyeah!
You don't really need a car in TX. Just think it as a little transfer of funds. Get the S model. I'll bet a guy would get out of a ticket easier on Duc.
I think they are ratcheting up the performance improvements of internal combustion as much as possible before electric motors take the stage.

I know this is gonna dumb but I just can't get into the sound of that bike. That kills it for me. It looks beautiful and if the performance stats are accurate, well, who could complain about that? ....but that low pitched sound-- yech! Sounds just like the R1 crossplane they brought out in about 09. I bet it's the same sort of engine. Maybe Ducati got it right but I would much rather hear a motor that rises to a piercing crescendo. that brrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa just doesn't shiver my spine like a race bike should.

makes absolutely no sense to compare a zx14r to a race(track)bike for the street. Maybe a zx10r would be appropriate. For someone who wants to ride 20,000+miles/yr, do multi-day trips, and be on a "sportbike", what else is there? The fact that the 14r gets thru the traps pretty good, doesn't at all mean that all it does. Some like to ride further than a 1/4 mi. Tell, what bike can you ride ALL day, consecutively, effortlessly, AND in a more than sport tour manner?

you really can not compare a zx10 and zx14 they are in different worlds... when i rode the r 1 it use to talk to me when i would corner it would say... man you can lay me over more then that. lol
6 years later a freind stops over with a r 1 ..took it for a short ride to buy a pack of smokes... i colud not wait to get off the thing and give it back to him.
thats why for me the fz6r was way cool and cheap and it gets the job done in spades... not the faster bike on the planet. but i rode the thing about 12 thousand miles in one year.
race ready bikes do handle thats for sure, but most i seen never really have that many miles on them...thay are not really made for longer rides.
most times when one passes me coming the other way they have one hand on the thottle and they are sitting upright trying to give there back a rest.
2 different worlds
thats 2 reasons not to buy a race ready bike !!

I agree gentleman, that's why you need to have more than one machine in the garage. I regularly do 200 to 300 mile days in the twisties and the race reps do tend to wear you out, but when you're chasing the whitelines it's pure joy!

Rook, I have to agree with you here, I listened to that video and the sound is almost agricultural, kinda flat. Now bolt on a Termignoni exhaust and it will sound amazing! I've heard 1098s, 1198s and 999s and they all sound like they're fixing to grenade at idle but rapp 'em out with a good Termi and they sound very bad azzzzz! This bike should be no different and the wet cluch should make her sound more Japanese.

You're preaching to the choir here Phatphil, I've been on a ZX-14 since June of 2006. They're fast, comfortable, smooth and are competent in the corners. If I was going to ride two hundred miles to the the twisties, hammer down and ride home, this is the bike I would want to be on.
I've found that as long as I stay on fast, high speed sweeper type roads, nothing will touch a 14. We have a road like that up near the Red River on the Oklahoma border, the turns are dead smooth and you can take 'em at 130 to 140 mph, leaned all the way over. Mile after mile of this stuff, the 14 is really in it's element here. Get it out on a twisty, choppy, farm to market road though and it starts to come unraveled pretty quick. If you try to maintain a liter bike pace, it will scare you in to backing off if you have any sense.

yes v twins with a pipe sound awesome... and duc being some of the best sounding bikes i have heard piped.
you sound like you like to ride fast in the corners....i was never so sure of all factors being on the streets and stuff i would usally let guys off and do there thing when the pace really picked up.
only on a closed coarse would i push things more to the upper limits. verdic still out on the 14r may wait to spring so i can seat on one in person.
also thinking i might take a honda cbr1000rr and install risers, not sure riders make that mod to that kind of bike. but would make the bike so you don't have to lean over so much and the bike is nice and light.
the only time i sat on a zx14 that were at dealerships used and when i would seat on them..... they seem like they put you in the positons that made you feel like you wanted to drag race somebody. lol
have to see what happens when i seat on the new r model over the winter or in the spring.... i was looking for a bigger motor but i did rear gear the fz6r for better running on the highways.

About the old and new zx-10:
I also like the older look better. I like they new one frontal view but the older 1 just look more about business. A little bit like the 2 wheeled robot that J Connor hijack in the last terminator... which was based on a ducati by the way lool

Never heard a duc, in person, with an unlikeable sound. Maybe I'm easy to please. Video recordings, speakers etc usually aren't able to reproduce live sounds, especially lower frequencies and air intake. Also love the dry clutch clatter. Might sound like it's on the verge of blowing up but that why it sounds so cool...

"Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into that storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine! Then the fates will know you as we know you: as dragking, DA man!"
I quit, let's bury the hatchet, smoke the peace pipe.

ya know- I just checked in on BL and those guys are lovin the 14r. I'm sure the performance comparison is something that will not be conclusive for many months but everyone is gushing about how smooth the tranny and power is on the new bike.
