Actually, now that I think about it the GH ride was 400 miles round trip but still a lot of dough for a penniless college student.

You should consider riding the 14 down the west coast and across to TX. You took a trip out to AZ last summer didn't you? Seems like you would have mostly all warm weather that way and you will get as good of mileage as a Corolla. well, almost as good.

Damn...it just hit me---I can tow my 14 on a small flat bed trailor with my COrolla for less money than it costs to ride the bike. Isn't that contrary to some law of physics?

Considered it... but can't figure out how to load this thing on the bike.

You took a trip out to AZ last summer didn't you?

That was the plan... but had a "falling out" with the guy I was riding with, and we parted ways. So I just spent a few ways putting 2600 miles on the 14 in the mountains and on the coasts of WA, OR, and CA.

You'd think... but I've owned few Toyotas... and seamingly broken the laws of physics several times with them.

nice sign in the background! lol

BTW, told you about this one a couple years ago. It's for real. ~30 miles North of Kenosha, WI. Right by Union Grove Dragway.

I see the chopping block in the lower right and the rocks for the fire pit. Looks like you plucked that chicken and threw the feathers out the back door. If you have never eaten a freshly killed yardbird, you don't know what chicken tastes like.

lol... My woman is alergic to chicken... seriously.
Those are actually flower petals (fox glove)... Works every time... If you're takin' notes.

If you have never eaten a freshly killed yardbird, you don't know what chicken tastes like.

Grew up on a "mini" farm raising chickens, rabbits, and hogs... the memory Gramma's chicken and dumplings brings a tear to my eye.

can't change your plans?

I can't, my trailer with the bikes is in Florida already.

if you were going...

I'm in the same boat, I'll be flying into town... and slapping a set of BST wheels on the 750,
got me a good deal on a used set

Gotcha... Flyin' in, riding, then flyin' home?... Rockstar!

You check State laws? I'm pretty sure it is illegal for one man to own TWO sets of BST's.

Flyin' in, riding, then flyin' home?

A good friend of mine who I ride with at the track bought a business in Tampa Bay earlier this year, also bought a house and moved down there. The plan is for me to keep one of my bikes with him and he will keep one of his with me at all time.
The 12-15 hour long hauls can put a toll on you no matter what you drive, especially with a big trailer behind you. Doing back to back track days in between is very exhausting. This has potential for even more track time with far less travel time.

You check State laws?

Bought a used set but they sure are puuurty (even on the cell phone camera), countless tire changes will take care of that

So it's legal as lond as one set was purchased used? lol

How have the BST's on your 14 held up to tire changes?... Brock has a set for my 10r on clearance I'm trying to talk myself out of buying.
Ordered a bunch of other goodies for that bike yesterday... Can't have Ohlins on the 14 but not the 10.

Yeah, and when are you going to give up the real info about what is lighter a/o better if given the choice between Tri-Rs or BSTs? I'm ready to drop a wad myself but i would sure like to hear some real world straight-forward figures like "you need this rim that weighs X lbs and You need a sprocket carrier that weighs X lbs and the spacers and hardware weighs X lbs so your ZX-14 BSTs will weigh THIS and the ZX-14 TriRs will weigh that. Any help on that? Best info I have so far is Slowninja said the BST weight reduction added almost nothing to a quarter mile time---so get what you like cuz it won't matter for acceleration.

Dunno, I've ridden the bike only a handful of times and still on the first set of tires. I probably have less than 2K miles on them.

Brock has a set for my 10r

It took Kawi a long time to finally build a good chassis for the 10r, and even the gen 4 is not easy to set up as far as geometry. I'd look elsewhere if I were to build a liter bike for the track, it would be either a gsxr or a cbr.

Any help on that?

The only wheel that comes even close to being as lightweight as the 17" BST is the 16.5" Forged Magnesium Marchesini,
race only though as you will not find any street tires in that size. Also at the same $$$ as the cf wheel

You can see some weights here, read the full article. For putting on the street I'm not sure why it would matter much,
anything will be significantly lighter than oem

I know, I know... but already have the 10r halfway there... Having the local guru rebuild and respring the stock forks and a used Ohlins shock I picked up... He'll be out at the track when I am to help get shit dialed.

Figure best to work with what I got for now... and decide what direction to go from there after the 2012 season.

You should just send 'em to me for testing. lol

Hey Rook, you still have the owner of CZ's ebay user name?... Year end is closing in fast and he has been putting more auctions up lately.

See my delimma? lol... Less than most guys want for a used set... and I have a hard time passing on a deal. Find one of your friends to buy them before I do.

Thanks for the wheel info, Mass. Looking back at my BL Carro v BST thread, I did get a lot of pretty good info but I know how thoroughly you researched and tested this so I value every bit of info you have.

Hey Rook, you still have the owner of CZ's ebay user name?... Year end is closing in fast and he has been putting more auctions up lately.
NOpe. If you got it go ahead and PM or post (I can see no reason he would not wanrt the free advertising). I might grab a set for a killer price. I can get a beautiful set of anodized blue for under 2K$ at McCoy/2bfast. BSTs are not going to ever go cheap unless you can find a used set. But I think, in spite of all we have talked about on your Xmas thraed last year, I think the BSTs are the lightest and by more than just a pound or two. Forged mags are lighter than forged alums but the mags are a bit lighter from the info I read. The Tri-rs are perhaps a bit more of a special forged alum but how much more special could they be than that which was available 3-4 years ago?

???the Tri Rs do look pretty skinny. IDK. I think I will try to work up a guestimate using a vortex sprocket weight and a sprocket carrier weight I read about. The Tri R have some bigger rotors which kinda undermines the whole idea a bit. If I can get a killer deal I will have to go with Tri Rs. Otherwise jusyt go with the crowd and save all the FU***NG time hemming and hawing away dollars. Buy a set of BSTs. What am doing, reinventing the wheel? (lol?)

Don't do it, before you know it you'll have another $7k in track parts and mods. And then come the crashes...

Buy a built bike, something with most of the hard parts you'll need and properly set up.

Buy a set of BSTs

If you want the very best wheels, you do that.

Not gonna... Was a thought... Offered $6k but they said no. Keeping my eye out for the right deal on the right bike, but will likely be riding my 10r in 2012... $1k for suspension work and some skins and it'll be good to go... Likely already have enough spare parts to put it back together after a crash too.

Yep, tires are extra sticky in July here. ... don't know that I'll spend the cash for Cali Superbike School, however... $BIG BUCKS$... Would be cool though.

March 24th is the earliest track day on the schedule so far... 3 Orgs (that I know of) are still waiting to get the days they requested approved.
