Which oil filter, Purolator ML16817 or ML16812??
06/18/12 2:46 PM

Hello,

I was going to change the oil on my 2006 ZX14R. I'm a bit confused which oil filter I should be using. Pep Boys has both the Purolator ML16817 and the ML16812. Do you know which one is right for the job? :)

THANKS

You are more than a bit confused. The 14R just came out as a 2012 model. Purolator makes 2 filters that fit the ZX-14: The P14610 (short) and the PL14610 (long).

Hey "danno" the dickhead, this is right from Purolator's website:

Can I use a PureONE oil filter on my motorcycle?
A: Purolator highly recommends using the Purolator ML motorcycle filters specially designed for motorcycles and ATVs. Check out the Purolator Motorcycle and ATV Application Guide to find the right motorcycle filter for your bike.

I belive there must be issues with flow rates when using the higher rated auto filters. AKA pure one , mobil 1, the pumps in motorcycles and atv's can't hang! bypass pressure may be set different also. I wont risk it, OEM or rated for motorcycle only. Think about it.

To much to list!

Well Phatass, if you know so much, why are you here asking stupid questions about a bike you obviously don't even know what it is? Go back to Purolator's website and re-educate yourself.

Danno?... Remember me? You wish we could have a conversation. But with the two title filter numbers... It's just too funny around here lately.

Puzzling indeed... You know who you are is keep guessing.

Here is your bump, 23. Stick with the stock air cleaner too. You read the dyno charts, there is a loss of power you swapping out pleats which meets the microns. That means flow change and debris down the intake throats.

I use K/N oil filters but then I only change oil in the 14 once a year.
