G'day from Brisbane - Australia
11/30/14 3:36 AM

Hi Everyone,
I got my 2010 ZX about a month ago, I bought it in Perth - Western Australia and rode her home in 3-1/2 days.
Total of 4800 km (3000 miles) I love this machine!
It had 33000km when I picked it up, now just over 40000, she will be a high mileage unit by the time I've finished with her. I intend to do a 16000km ride around Australia in 13 days next year, and is ridden daily.
The previous owner had fitted PC V with custom tune (173HP - 103 Ft/Lb at rear wheel) and a GIpro Gear Indicator as now the secondary flies open at 3000 RPM in all gears except first. I find it smooth from 1500 RPM in any gear and of course love the power burst from around 5000 onwards.
It has a few other aftermarket items which I wanted for my touring activities, radiator guard, front fender extender, center stand, ventura rack & bag, eagle high tinted screen, heated grips, modified seat, rear hugger, Staintune sports mufflers (with compliance plates) keeps the cops at bay. That's why I purchased this bike ... it had everything I wanted already done.
I still have my '94 GTR1000 which I bought 18 months ago and rode 35000km during that time.
I'm hoping to learn a lot about the ZX here and do my own general servicing.
Cheers
John

Hi, dinplug. I wish i could take that trip with you. My dream vacation would be a month or two in Japan but a motorcycle tour of Australia sounds even better. Wish I could join you.

GIpro Gear Indicator as now the secondary flies open at 3000 RPM in all gears except first.

You're saying the GiPro makes the flies open at 3k in all gears? I have an 08 which opens the flies the same as the 2010. My flies open at just under 3k rpm (according to my tach) in first gear. I can't remember ever feeling the flies in any other gear although I know they come into play in other gears. I took my flies out and did an adjustment to my map. That smoothed out the power delivery quite well in first gear. 2-6 feel very linear.

Hi Rook & VicThing,

Yeah I've kinda got addicted to riding long distances.
I did a Orlando to LA ride in April this year on a HD Electra Glide fully loaded with pillion. 14 days ... sight across the Southern USA.

Maybe my memory of the conversation with previous owner is flawed (hey I'm getting old)
I thought he said when the Power Commander and GiPro was fitted that the GiPro tricked the Kawasaki system into thinking it was in 6th gear, which does happen.
So when in first the GiPro and standard display shows 1st but when in second and above the standard display shows 6th, he said the point to this was that the secondary flies on standard bike open at 3K in 6th and 7K in all other gears and now bike thinks it's in 6th they will open at 3K in all gears except 1st (which he said he chose not to select)

He paid a third party tuner to do maps and dyno once it was all fitted (including exhaust)

To be honest I don't 'feel' the flies opening and I'm very happy with the 'tune' as such and even after 7000km I'm still getting used to the available power above 5K.

If you do ever get down under would be happy to show you around, we are very lucky here in that we can ride year round and have a good mixture of reasonable roads within an hours riding, from steep twisties to deserted open straights.

Here's a pic of the ZX and the GTR

I think you have the general idea right with the GiPro locking the flies mapping for one of the higher gears. Kawi allowed more aggressive flies response in the higher gears. I'm not a 100% sure but I think 6th gear has flies open at any rpm and that's what you want for total flies derestriction. If first gear runs on 1st gear mapping, you'll feel a sudden burst of power at a little under 3k rpm if you're on the gas a even a little hard. If you don't, maybe they smoothed that out with the tune.

The bikes look great. Have fun!

Hi AussieXZ,

The map below shows the route I took.

http://goo.gl/maps/epKQt

They guy in Perth told me about these beautiful back roads to take from North Perth to Esperance (880km)

Then day 2 was Esperance to Ceduna (1300km)

Day 3 was Ceduna to Wilcania NSW (1100km)

Day 4 Wilcania to Tamworth to Tenterfield to Brisbane (1450km)

My wrists were sore but rest of body was good, mentally still strong and alert. Took special care to stay hydrated and plenty of walking around at each rest/fuel stop.

I'm planning a clockwise around Australia 16000km ride in 13 days in April next year. If you are interested let me know.
John

Not sure about funnel webs .... my phobia of spiders makes sure I stay the $%^# away from them.

The exhaust note sure makes the Kangaroos ears prick up and they can't get away from the road fast enough.

That suits me fine as they are nothing but muscle and bone and they sure mess you up even if you glance them.

Not to mention frigging emu's, wombats, feral goats, deer and the occasional feral camel ...... it's a battlefield out there LoL

It would be quite a journey, both Perth the Qld and around Australia. It sounded a good trip when the Black Dog charity ride was on recently. I'm not sure I'd be up for 13 days in the saddle!
