What to do?
02/24/10 9:26 PM

As some of you noticed, i'm building a really big nitrous motor to race this year. I don't really want to risk that much money riding on the street too much. So the question is, what should i do?

(Money IS an object... I don't have much of it, mainly cause i just built a really big nitrous motor LOL)

Either, buy a new (or 09) Ninja 250. Because, its new.. It has warranty.. Good fuel mileage.. Looks like a real bike.

Or

Buy a used 600 or 1000.. Because i'd probably get bored on a 250.

There are definitely pro's and con's to each. Keep in mind, i don't have to have something extremely fast. I have that. I just need something i can ride to work, ride up to the bike nights, and ride around the lake on nice nights.

What would you do?

Used 600/1000 FTW!!! I rode a 08 250 and its a DOOOOOOOOOOOOG. The guy my boss bought it from had it dynoed....25 HP was all it did.

BUT...on the other hand you would have the fastest AND slowest Ninjas in OKC, LMAO!!!!

250 is just to weak,BUT it would be funny to have guys talk crap to you and then just tell them to meet you at the track. They wouldn't think it so funny when they see the 14 you have.

600s suck on the street way to much shifting IMOP and I can run faster than you can ride a 250.Maybe a good clean zx12 its comfy and fast should be fairly cheap now.

The 250 will do all those things you mentioned but you're also worried about being bored. Also depends on how big you are.
The 250, for what it is, is pretty cool. I'm surprised I don't see groups of them whizzing around by now, though I see several around town. They get like 60+MPG and the mag' I read about 2 years ago said it's the only bike in its class that will hit 100. On that bike 100 probably feels even faster. Insurance figures to save you too so you can spend more on that hot rod.
Hard to say what's best. You're the best judge. Lotta good deals on bigger used bikes out there, but get that one with hidden issues...

I weigh 160 lbs.. so weight isn't an issue on the 250.

Insurance is another factor. Full coverage for me on a 250 is about $15 a month LOL

I got an "02 ZX6R which had gone down and scratched the plastics. Absolutely nothing wrong with it except cosmetics. Made a naked bike out of it and VOILA! Didn't even put a PC on it runs great, good as new, loads of fun and good mileage. (Course my truck is a guzzler so anything else looks good. You can get some good deals cause people don't like to buy bikes that have been down. If you know what you're looking at going down can be no big deal.
The 250's have to run 10-12K RPM for torque and power. So you have to put up with a high whine exhaust note too.
Yea, low mileage 6R is the way to go. You woln't tire of it either.

Just sold this little Beauty. My Advice is DON'T Do It...... It's not who you are. From a red light You have to ring this things neck just to keep cars from running you over lol. Top speed 91 mph down hill and takes two football fields to get up to 60.... Ride one first. After that I'm sure your answer will be NO. Only plus is that it is great on fuel and looks fast.
