ZX Finally on the Dyno
01/04/13 2:09 PM

Finally got the ZX to the Dyno yesterday to see what the Air/Fuel and HP/Torque was like. Also had the Quick shifter installed by the guys at Blais Cycle in Lauderdale.
It was a bit on the warm side so the numbers could have been better with cooler weather, never the less I'm happy with the final numbers.
The quick shifter is the Bomb!

Nice. That pipe is great. Looks like Ivan was right. Florida is hot and humid. In cooler weather you'll probably gotten pass 205 hp which is the highest numbers I have seen!

Yep...the shop owner Kevin has the same color ZX as mine and with a little tuning he's got his putting out 214HP at the wheels.
Ivan's numbers were damn close, that's for sure.

214hp? That's awesome. Did he say how he broke the bike in?
I see that you went with the extra sticker. Doesn't look bad at all!

Knowing Kevin, he probably broke it in the same way he rides it...HARD lol, plus being the Owner he's got all the free Dyno time he wants, so he can tweak it and try different Exhausts and see the changes in the power curves.
The fact that he stuck with the Akrapovic says a lot, ROMANS would be proud lol...
Yeah the Smaller Akra decal is growing on me.

What all do you have on it, Sparky? I can see what looks to be a full Akro system. PCV, as well?

And contratulations on busting the 200 HP mark. Nice!!! That must feel good to have that verified.

Yes I agree that our bikes are underrated by Kawasaki, they claim 195-200 HP at the crank when we all know that's not true. when taking into account the 203.5 HP number at the wheel from my ZX, the truth is that these motors are putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 225HP at the crank and around 132 Lbs of torque, with just bolt ons like full exhaust PV5 and ECU remap.
Reminds me of the 60's when car manufactures were underrating the HP figures on some cars for Insurance purposes

Which shifter is that?

Please list engine specific mods for that graph. Painstaking, excruciating detail will be awarded bonus Ninjee points.

Thanks ZX14MAN64, I'm hoping to get it custom tuned once she gets to about 2500 miles, perhaps an air filter,
synthetic oil, Ceramic bearings and cleaning up the top end where it's running a little rich on a not so hot day and hopefully we will get some better numbers lol
The only thing on the bike is the Generation1 Akra full stainless exhaust, PC5 and ECU re-flash all from Ivan's performance

@Green: How could you milk another 10hp? 224hp? Unless you go 0W oil and o ring-less chain which is a no no unless you're drag racing.

I don't know his mods but at 214hp, I'd say he's maxed out and that the weather gods were on his side. I don't remember what number Brock got for the 14R. Something like 217-219 hp and that was with the mods aforementioned. In any case anything over 200hp is more than enough. Would love to try that beast with TC off on my favorite back road!

Hey hagrid, the shifter is one that they put together for use with the stock rear-sets, If you look close at the picture you can see that I also have the adjustable mounting plates and they were able to make it fit.
They have them up for sale on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130802914263?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

" Unless you go 0W oil and o ring-less chain which is a no no unless you're drag racing"....he he...not EVERYONE drag racesLOL!!!!Lots of guys run the street with those 'mods'...you just don't hear about em...cause it's a "no no"...who wants ta get slammed for admitting they're using a non o-ring chain setup?.

"I don't know his mods but at 214hp, I'd say he's maxed out and that the weather gods were on his side" ...could be...maybe....possibly....Brock hit 220...rear wheel...most likely more by now;)

Sparky says..."I'm hoping to get it custom tuned once she gets to about 2500 miles"...FUZ#!....just watch what he gets with his 'custom tune"....LOL!!!!!In 60 degree weather...hopefully...in the morning...when the air's nice and thick. And the Ram air's goin;)

Hagrid pleads..."Please list engine specific mods for that graph"....that's STOCK my man...with the PCV and Akra;)Look up topside...it's right thereLOL!!!!(the ECU flash doesn't change the a/f mix)

That shifter is trick....looks really well done. Are you running GP style with that setup?

Drag says..." Would love to try that beast with TC off on my favorite back road!".....hmmmmm.....interesting.....unless ya have strong ass ankles...to keep er vertical that is;)

Don't be fooled...THIS bike is dangerous without that KTRC on there.....trust me.

I think Ivan and I have a face to face in our future.

@SparkyG: that shift setup is foxy... lovin' it big time! My Yoshis plumbing won't tolerate rearsets put back that far. I'm going to have to go an alternate route; a shift lever with integral strain gauge.

I agree Grn14, Ive had the chance to stretch her legs on a couple of occasions and must admit that with the KTRC turned off 1st and 2nd are almost useless, very difficult to put the power down she's either squirming the rear tire or constantly trying to get airborne, now 3rd gear.....that's fun, I mean hang on man because from 6K to 11.5K she will rip a hole in the space time continuum.

I would definitely recommend taking to him, he's a very strait forward guy and the results speak for themselves.

.Brock hit 220...rear wheel...most likely more by now;)

Nah, Brock is done. He's a business man, he would have publicized any HP gains. The only thing he had to get sorted was the flash, courtesy of Guhl. He didn't even have to make a specific 14R pipe. It's not like the 1st generation. No need for a ZX-14R diary either. Everything was pretty simple, except for the stock ECU which would default to a low power mode.

Drag says..." Would love to try that beast with TC off on my favorite back road!".....hmmmmm.....interesting.....unless ya have strong ass ankles...to keep er vertical that is;)

I'm a big believer that more power doesn't translate to more danger. I read you were saying the mods you did made you ride like you were a pro on a circuit but apparently your accident wasn't caused by the power of the 14. Lack of skills or attention (not saying you lack either)is way more lethal than HP! Furthermore, the 14R has got a lot of power but with its clearance limit and weight it kinda tame you down a little. Although it weight less and doesn't have TC, I think I would be OK, if mine put 205-210hp at the rear wheel.

@SparkyG: Too bad you couldn't bring the S'tho or the Panigale over there to compare. I'm curious to know why you chose 2500 miles as the time for the custom tune. You think the motor will be fully broken in by then?

" Although it weight less and doesn't have TC, I think I would be OK, if mine put 205-210hp at the rear wheel"...you're probably very correct. If a guy can ride...he can ride.Really won't matter much WHAT he's ridin.Like playing the guitar.I've seen awesome players play just like they were using their own unique guitar...with a cheapo not so good instrument...amazing really.Kinda makes 'excuses' pretty much nullLOL!!!!

Youcan ease in the throttle in first.I know on mine I get it off the ground in first and feather the throttle just to keep it up and not flip it over.Takes practice but I bet the same applies to the new bike.

I never really got used to easing the throttle while lofted....seems like the hp and torque REALLY started kickin in just when I felt it was evening out for a prolonged lift(front wheel up,and climbing fast).Lots of guys use the rear brake for adjusting the lift...I never could get my toe on there right.Too scared I guess.Didn't want to crunch my precious.I did anyway...down the road.Oh well...probably a good thing I didn't really learn how to hold a wheely...these bikes don't do so well starving for oil;)

I did like my KTRC in first though...it allowed a certain amount of lift before it figured out WTF?Having that little extra measure did give me more confidence 'trying' to wheelie.I kinda started gettin the hang of it....for a bit anyway;)

I really don't think lofting for more than a couple of seconds is a good thing with the oil sump configured as it is.Doesn't take much oil loss for things to go really wrong...maybe not right then...but over time.Once that damage is in there...it's just a matter of time before somethin gives.

Had both of them already dynoed so I know what kind of numbers they are putting out, plus It's quite a drive south for me, about two hours and dint fell like dragging the truck with the trailer.
I actually rode the ZX down there and back, wanted to try out the quick shifter as soon as possible and compare it with the Pani and the Bimmer's factory quick shifter, you know Instant gratification and all lol..

As far as 2500 miles for the custom tune, well I've noticed on all my other bikes that they sometimes (not always) give me another 1-1.5 more ponies, I'm thinking those few 1K more miles loosened the motor just a hair, plus I usually switch over to synthetic at that mileage( except for the Euro bikes...they all come with synthetic oil )It's just one of my idiosyncrasies I guess.
