Thought i would post this PM response I made to a Cannon enquiry since I get this question in PMs from time to time, might as well post it and direct others here.
If you google alien head v Tsukigi Cannon you will come across a lot of threads like this. http://www.psychobike.com/forums/suzuki-hayabusa/28545-brock-alien-head-exhaust-tsukigi-cannon-exhaust.html
You will prolly find the old rookster had posted among the other comments. I did a lot of questioning. NO ONE ever stated that the Cannon was weaker than the A head. In fact, Greg Williams of HPC (now defunct) did a same day same dyno test of a Cannon v Brock's short meg and the Cannon beat the meg. They did not test an A head but the message was implied that they did not want to piss off all of the A-head owners who participated on the forum. The tests were done with 2008 HAyabusas. It is very unfortunate that this valuable and very lengthy thread seems to have been lost. I can no longer find it by Google.
Here is my true feelings and opinions.
#1 A head is a more popular pipe by far. A great rule of thumb is to go with the crowd. Honestly, I would have gotten a Brock's CT meg. The Cannon was on sale and I like d it so I asked a lot of questions all focussing on performance and no one could tell me a Cannon was inferior. To the contrary, there was some evidence to indicate the Cannon was a couple hp stronger.
#2 Brock has a zillion maps he will give you for free if you buy any of his pipes used or new. You may l have a hard time finding a Cannon map in the US. The Cannons just are not available so no one is tuning for them and offering maps. You will need a custom tune from a reputable shop. If I knew how to copy and send a map I couldn't do that without HPC consent. I respect the copyright property in the sportbike community so I have up avoided sharing maps so far.
#3 If you need customer service, Brock is a stand up guy. Tsukigi Cannon is by far a higher quality pipe (as far as durability) than the A head. You should never need customer assistance but if you do good luck working with Japan. I guess there is a West Coast Tsukigi dealer in the US. Never worked with them.
#4 The Cannon is too long. I like the look of a short pipe like and A head.
#5 The Cannon is made of thick metal and the muffler will never rust out. Also likely to take a fall without crushing. Excellent welds and a lot of them. The headers and collector / midpipe I bet that is just a bit thicker than Brocks. I heard Brock A head is like sheet metal. The real issue here is weight, however. The Cannon weighs 16-18 lbs. The shipping label said 18. I never weighed the pipe. Have to do that this summer.
A head is 8 lbs. whole system. That is a deciding factor right there.
#6 Obviously you want something loud. I have been told an A head is not quite as loud as the Cannon. I heard a short meg and i can tell you the Smeg is loud but not as loud as my Cannon.
#7 If you corner hard enough that you are almost waring the tire to the edge, the Cannon is going to scrape. I have seen the same sort of scraping on a ZX-14 with A head. Some of the pics I see, I have no idea how they are laying the bike over like that.
My opinion is the same as it ever was. The Cannon is a nice pipe but weight reduction and hp is the most important thing. I would go with a Ct meg and you have your 8 pounder with a few more hp than a Cannon or an A head.\\\
...otherwise, go with the Ahead if the price is same as Cannon. Pick up a used one, maybe.
or just look at the info here and make up your own mind. Maybe you like the look of one more than the other. That can clinch it because they are all great and in thereal world, you are not going to notice a few hp at the top anyway. That is all bragging rights and .02 seconds n the quarter mile. To me however, weight loss is very much real world, all round performance enhancement.
