2013 bike decisions
11/16/12 8:56 AM

Well went to the Colorado dealer yesterday. They have a white 14r and a white 10r. I was disappointed that the white is metallic and not flat. The 10r on the other hand was straight bad ass. What are your guys' opinions on the 10r and the new 14color?

Since you sold it, have you talked to the new owner of your previous 2012 ZX-14R?

To each his own, but I don't like the new colors they are offering the 2013 14R in. The Green is the only way to go, as far as a kawasaki. THe white, blue, red..........meh.......

Just my opinion.

Well...they are somewhat limited with their color schemes...always have been. That's just Kawasaki....I'm getting the Green...to me...it's the most attractive...to me.But I'd also get a Blue one,or a White one...if that's all they were offering.I would NOT get a red bike...ever...that's just me....nice color...but not my style.Something about a red bike...and human blood pouring out on the roadway....nah....kinda creeps me out.

funny about the red color, i looked at the blue and black and neither spoke to me. the red was the only color that really caught my attention. yea i know about arrest me red and color of blood on the road but both can be solved by resisting the temptation to floor it.

i just call it Ferrari red and go on...............

LOL!...resistance is futile!Red is okay...probably in person it really looks excellent.I definitely didn't care for the Black with the Green piping on the sides...and the graphics...somehow...they just don't 'fit'...The graphics above the lamps...now that's kinda cool...but the fairing below?Nah....flames looked much better.I wish they had some EURO schemes here...and paint colors...some of those are very unique and look really good on the big Ninja.

"arrest me red"...what about "go to jail green"...or "big ticket blue"?....no matter what color..these bikes are way capable of influencing a rider's better judgements!

You sir, know not of what you speak.

"Not floor it" indeed. Lol!

Either you have the self control The Almighty bestowed upon the most highly regarded porn stars, or you have yet to firmly grasp the heroin-like siren's call of the 14R.

I envy, and pity you simultaneously.

Report back when you have finally experienced that which I describe... if you survived that is.

What say you Montana!!

I think the 10R is the cats meow.

I think (know) if you put any of you on a ZX14R you have ridden enough to be used to in on serious mountain roads against an equally good rider on a ZX10R they have ridden long enough to used to, the ZX10R will leave you in the dust.

But the 14R is way more comfortable, nicer to ride in the city, much faster on a 1/4 mile (sort of), and easier to ride. Yes, much easier to ride.

@Kofla -

btw, I am not a fan of white vehicles, too much work to keep them looking "clean" for my taste.

You are the only person I ever heard say that.

Having owned white vehicles, and black vehicles, I can say from 1,000-some washings and clay bar-ings, and waxings, the black is much harder to keep clean, and shows every little spec of dirt in a much more glaring manner than white.

I'd be more concerned about chips.Well...not if I had a black bike.(which I did once). But seems like that white would be really iffy trying to not get rock hits in it.The green...it was a good color for masking chips.Same as the blue. And dirt on the surface showing up...the green...very good at NOT contrasting that.Like the blue one also.Same deal.

If you get a 10R make sure Kawi fixed the problem with the cases by the starter, there was some kind of problem with the casting of the cases, and the fix was not really a good one (in MHO) this was the 2012 ZX10, hopefully they fixed it for 2013, that being said, I almost bought a 10R, but didnt because partially for the reason stated above, but I am also older now, and have a lot of medical problems, aches, and pains etc .. and the 14 was more comfortable for me, also the 10R is restricted, but there is an easy fix that requires grounding one wire and re-routing it, that will give you 15 HP or more, that should have been there in the first place,

Anyway here is the recall for the 2011-2012 ZX10R

Are you saying colour is a major factor on which bike you choose?
10R & 14R, two completely different bikes. Yes, some colours will definately suit one bike more than another but choose the bike first, then the colour. If colour is that important and you don't like the colours available on the machine of your choice just buy the colour you can get the best deal on and get a paint job. JMO

I wanted a White 2013 WITH abs...they said..."nope,no abs on that one"...well...shit...how hard is it to install an abs at the factory on a white bike?Sheesh....sa'll good though...but it makes ya wonder sometimes...WTHELL are they thinking?Europe's got em!(No...I aint movin to Europe for a new bike;)

I think I liked the IDEA of a white 14.Owning it and caring for it is another thing altogether...I'm kinda glad actually.I miss my Green machine!Bought a set of the belly fairing upper flames...just to 'smooth out' the color contrast right there.(I miss my flames also)

What do we think of the 10R?

It may be the best all around liter bike sold today. That coming from a BMW S1000RR owner:) It is a nearly perfect motorcycle.

I think a 10R is a fine machine...lots of good upgrades on it this year...probably more to come soon. Most likely...reliable as heck.Smooth I'd imagine....strong.This past year when I went to go see the 'new' bikes at my dealer...he had a black 10R.I sat on it...even had my pic taken....but she's just a bit too confining for me....otherwise...I would have really considered getting it.I'm spoiled with the 14.I don't need the performance of the 10 really. It will run circles around a 14 I think...great bike.I really don't need something that'll cause me to go faster around corners and all...I KNOW the 14 won't rail like a liter...so I don't really try to ride her like one...if that makes sense(ripping through quick twisties and such).I'm fairly used to the weight factor of the 14...predictable for me.I'd be all over the place on that 10!Most likely...dead by now!

You have an S1000RR, what year? Its is the beast its reported to be?

If I had a second choice to the Zx14, I'd have considered test riding a S1000RR. THe only drawback was the $$$$ they ask for those bikes.

But they are apparently hell on wheels.

A 1000RR owner is obviously into this class of machine.

But the best 'all rounder'? Absolutely NO WAY! Far too track focused and just plain uncomfortable on a long run or touring. The 14R will pull it's head off and s**t down it's neck as an all rounder. The 14R is an excellent fast tourer with admirable sporting capability which belies it's size/weight. The 10R is a track focused road going WSB, period. The bikes are in completely different classes, so far apart the comparison doesn't really make sense. JMO

I was at the Tucson Performance Cycle store a couple days ago, nosing around the floor looking at Husky Dual Sports.

Before leaving, one of the sales guys and I talk about the white 2013 14R on the floor. IMO, the Spanish dont call it "Blanc" for nothing. It looks... blank, to me.

He tells me the red cycles sit for a loooong time on the floor, dont move well at all. This guy has been selling cycles for many, many years. Him and I agree that the Black /with green highlights will sell well.

As far as which model have ABS and which dont, what he told me was (and I quote) "all the 14R model colors will be available with or without ABS". He then showed me his "sheet" and there were 8 prices listed, with 4 models for the 14R. Two columns, 4 colors: Down one column, ABS, down the other non-ABS. (Column Difference: $1K for ABS, what he says is a up-charge based on total cycle price, not equipment cost).

So *he* believes he can get delivered to his sales floor any color, with or without ABS. *He* believes that, and he's been selling these things forever.

Yeah...I KNOW I saw an ABS sticker on the Kawasaki USA website as one of the options for 2013.On the white one.But it's cool...Green is excellent with me...actually rather have the green one.I think my dealer was wanting to see me on that green rocketship again;)He didn't care for the Black one(SE model that is)...and I didn't really either.I don't think he liked the white one ...not really.Sa'll good.Straight black would be cool as well.
