If your neighbour saw him do it then the police can talk to him and charge him if your neighbour can identify him from a photolineup.... what do they say when you call them? is it the OPP or TPS? Even if your neighbour saw the vehicle but can't identify the guy then they still can try to get a hold of the registered owner and start an investigation... I dunno the circumstance and what you neighbour actually saw but here they wud send a car crew to investigate especially if there was a witness and a plate number attained.... Good luck Romans...

The police officers just left. They told me to go buy a night light with a motion sensor aaaahhhhhhh. This fucker has more rights than I do.

No charges Laid. Can't prove it. They asked him if he was stealing from cars,,,, Guess what the guy said ? Theft under 5000. No one cares.

What this guy is doing is driving up to each and every house on the street checking all the car doors. My neighbor followed him on foot for two blocks after calling the police but they did not show. Neighbor got scared, came back and woke me up at 2:45 am.

The kicker is I almost never have a large amount of money in my wallet, but this time. 280 cash gone, Blue tooth ear piece, cell phone charger. All Gone.

So he got me for about 500. I think he and I should meet. Maybe talk over a nice cup of Tea. Only seems fair. He knows me, seen pics of my kids gone through all my things. I think the playing field should be made equal. Am I asking to much ?

Romans it would not hurt to get to know him BUT you have already posted what sounds like threats against him on the internet which could be traced back to your IP so now that man has more rights than you when it comes to his safety.

Just be careful and cover your ass if something bad happens to him.

Thats the part that makes me sick. Police gave the same advice. And yes, his safety his my main concern. I promise to be nice.

I guess it's time to go buy my night light and Revoke my own man card

Then Romans wouldn't get to post on this board for a very long time, if ever again.

Even I, who wouldn't hesitate a single second to shoot someone who had busted into my house or garage, wouldn't consider killing a burglar outside my house.

Inside, reasonable fear, outside, aggravated homicide.

I know how you feel, Rom. I had a new helmet and a gas cooking grill stolen right out of my garage some years back. That was about $600 worth of stuff. I have no doubt it was trash pickers. Not much I could do except tell them to stay TF off my property.

Anyone who spends their time looking for cars to steal stuff out of is such a loser that I don't think any kind of beat down would wake them up. Anyone who steals personal property is probably living a life of self perpetuating turmoil and doesn't even know there could be any better way of life.

Encourage some neighbors to file police reports. If enough complaints go in, they should at least start patrolling more. Unfortunately, if it is not somewhat of an epidemic, the authorities won't consider it severe enough to do anything about. One of those PITAs of life.

Thats too bad that your Police service wudn't even take an hour or so to investigate that... if they are too busy and can't make it whgile its happening because of other incidents of higher priority fine... but still show up and offer your services and do a complete investigation.... if they think there is insufficient evidence to lay a charge then they can say they did their best, but to just show up and take the report (if they even submitted one)...

I know how pissed you are, and how violated you must feel.... I have had my car prowled in front of my house as well as the batteries stolen off our trailer on our driveway.... it enrages me that people are so lazy that they steal other people's shit that they worked their ass off for... BEST ADVICE IS TO LEAVE NOTHING IN YOUR VEHICLE and lock your doors always... we are having a huge problem with this in our city cause people still leave their wallets, gps, radar detectors, cell phone, ipods...etc in their veh's and they are unlocked... 90% of the time these guys are just checking door handles they will never "break" into a vehicle... and never leave your garage door opener in your vehicle if its parked on your driveway if you have a front or any attached garage!!! Big problems here with that a simple car prowling turns into a house break and enter.... that is a huge breach of your privacy especially when you and your family are at home sleeping!!!!

Rook had some good advice too if enough people report these car prowlings then the police may take action.... or try calling your alderman or MLA... I know here we have an online reporting system for incidents like car prowlings without suspects so you don't even have to leave the house...

Neways good luck and don't get yourself in trouble Romans!!!

When I got to work I started thinking,,,,, If your in my truck you also have my garage door opener(on visor),,,,, Wait till I go to work push button now your in my garage. Close door, now who can see you? Open door to house, now your in.

At this point I was in a panic(wife and kids still sleeping)ran back to my truck to see if opener still there, luckly it was.

I have spent over 6 hours going from street to street looking for this Red Acura with paint missing off the back bumper.

I begged the police lady on the phone to give me his address. She would not. Then I asked her to tell me if it's a close neighbor so I can watch out. Answer was no, Not real close........hmmmmmm. Next Question,,,, With in one kilometer,,,, answer was yes,,,, Bingo.... Just a matter of time now.

Be sure and keep us posted. Dying to know what happens next. Sounds like you just need to stake out a 2-mile radius from your house and do a little recon work. Couple of a-holes broke into my house a few years back and stol quite a bit of stuff. Then, when I claimed it with my home insurance, they wrote me a check. 2 months later, I get a letter from them telling me they've dropped me and now my insurance costs more because I asked the insurance company to actually do their jobs. Gotta be a better way to handle insurance claims.

I have been looking everywhere on the net 4 a way to find his address from the plate #. Reverse Tag.
It would seem that it is much easier to find a American address than it is to find one in Canada. One site I placed the plate # in, rolled up what looked like the info I was looking for then quickly changed to a screen that now asks me for 50 bucks, aaaaahhhhhhh. 4 all I know may be a bogus address. Last thing I need is to be scammed right now.

romans the best way is to make friends with a cop. So much for the myth some have on here about showing your tag, guess its not so easy to run tags as some may think.

scottjkyl, I have as many hours on the net trying to figure this one out as I do pounding the pavement. Like you said, not easy. If you give every site 50$ you May get lucky and find one that's legit.

I'm sure it's Easy if your a professional thief, but not for us common folk.

Rook they have filed. One of them explained in detail which cars the thief spent the most time on. Prints are all over the windows and doors, but he did not take anything from those cars(locked)and did not get in. Sooooooo. No theft. No crime. I guess in the eyes of the law what he was doing is OK. Grrrrrr.

Had a similar situation happen to me for a few years. Even had finger prints on my dash that the thief always left and the cops didn't even care. Wouldn't even run the prints. It may seem trivial but it definitely leaves a sore mark knowing the "law" doesn't care and the man says you have no right to do anything about it. I agree you should take the law into your own hands, but don't jeopardize your future. Whatever you do, if you collect enough evidence be aware if any case did come to trial, I'm sure the lawyer would scream entrapment. Any legal action would probably just cost you money and have no positive outcome.

blue I have also thought of this. Even if he does bite what would be the charge ?

I'm thinking now that the police have told him that he was observed trying to break into cars this guy is keeping a low profile.

I should have found him by now. Maybe today.

Good luck Romans. I agree with blue - get yourself some webcams hooked up to your computer and, when motion is detected, they should automatically begin recording to the computer's hard drive. Make sure you get the cams that do night shot well. Worth the investment even if this is the only thing you ever get to capture.

Why don't you post flyers in supermarkets, on craigslist, telephone poles, bus stops and anywhre else public notice can be posted.the poster should have the license number and car description and the car tampering allegations. ask that anyone who knows where this car resides call the police or write your email address. Then leave a note on his car saying that you know where he lives and to stop stealing from cars. No threats just to stop stealing. My guess is that he will relocate. that way we won't have to visit you in jail and you won't have to sell your bike for bail and lawyers.

Ok, but how does this help ? I have a eye witness who followed this guy and gave a perfect decription, plate # and exact type and color of car to the police, which matched perfectly. Explain to me how video will help ? Me no understand.

Romans - I just got off the phone with Toronto police. They have 4 divisions and, based on your postal code, you are to contact that particular division to follow up and speak with a supervisor - her words, not mine. The number that can direct you to the correct division is:
416-808-2222

She specifically said you need to speak with a supervisor so ask for that individual as soon as you get someone "human" from the respective division.

Let me know what they say please.
