In the market...been off bikes for awhile...
07/16/13 6:50 AM

My last bike was a 93 ZX 11 which I sold in 96. After 17 years the bug has bitten me again, and as far as I am concerned, there is only one motorcycle, which is why I am here.

...so, I'm shopping around, trying to find my best deal in the Memphis area ( Im in north Mississippi )...several 2012's still around, got my jukebox money, fixin' to order a helmet etc.

Yesterday afternoon I call my insurance provider, Nationwide. We have been with them for 20 years or so, house two cars... I'm 53, excellent driving record, great credit, blah blah blah.

They come back with a quote of...get this....4300 a year. I about crapped my pants. They insured my ZX11 back in 93 full coverage and I had a loan on it for 1100 a year and I was 33! This was the same over coverage I had on our cars at the time with a 250 deductable.

Im not sure what I am gonna do. I could pay for the bike outright and just get basic liability and theft, let my health insurance cover the medical aspect... get creative in some ways. I just had no idea...

Anyway, sorry to rant a little in my first post. Have been lurking awhile and decided to register. God may or may not ride a Harley, but Im pretty sure Jesus rides a 14.

Brotha...Ouuuuch!
I rode with basic liability for a short while and sweat it...then caved and payed for the full coverage...I fell to my knees too.
May guys here are going to financially take your shorts...I suggest Primmum, a branch of TD insurance that covers bikes.
Here is my point.
Facility 3800 a year
Primum 1400 a year.
Google em and call em and let me know how it goes.

I'm 27 with perfect credit and driving history. I have have full coverage on mine which is a 2013 with $6000 against it and I am paying just over $400 a year. I go through State Farm. They are one of the best insurance companies for MC insurance. Also, around my area anyway, State Farm charges by the engine size. They don't care if its a sport bike or a cruiser, just the cc's

Statefarm is one of the few that will cover a 14 in Canada, 150 a month for complete, no collision. Meanwhile the 650's are almost as much with statefarm, but with TD (meloche monnex i think) it's like 500 per year, per bike....looks like I get to keep all three on the road for now!
Not sure on vehicles, but on property, the lender usually takes out life ins on the holder to cover payout etc., if needed.

Like everyone has already posted. Try a few insurers but I bet State Farm will be your best quote. Good Luck!

I pay twice as much for liability on the 14 as I did for full coverage on my old ZZR 1200. Evidently a 186-mph motorcycle is many times as dangerous as a 172 mph example. My insurance lady said, "But it's a sooperbike!!!!" They're all fuckin nuts and looking for an excuse to stick it up yer ass and break it off. My 1200 was probably cheaper to insure than KHI's new 300cc sportbike due to the "Ninja" decal on it's flanks.

I'm not sure what I pay, my wife takes care of that. But I bet if my agent went for I ride with me the price would be higher...much higher.

just got off the phone with State Farm...they quoted me full coverage on the bike alone for just under a grand a year, and if I moved our 2 autos over as well, the ZX yearly full coverage would drop to 630 a year. Thats excellent, especially compared to the 4300 that Nationwide quoted me yesterday. If I move the cars over it would be for the exact same coverage and deductibles that we currently have with Nationwide. I just may do this as Nationwide pissed me off royally with their asinine quote.

i sincerely appreciate the advice. My joining the forum has already paid a dividend. Gotta get my license renewed then Im good to go. Thanks!

I switched everything to State Farm in 2010 and never looked back. I brought them both my boats, both snowmobiles, my KZ650, and my pickup. Hell, I saved so much money switching from American Family I let them talk me into buying health insurance and I was still paying less! That was my experience with State Farm.
